I bought these to put over them, they actually feel really great on the controller and they're super cheap! [link]
I use these ([link]) and they have worked well for me. Never have fallen off or slipped on me and it's been over a year. Personally, I say go with a DS4, it's really nice (though I never owned a DS3) and from what I've read, the grip issue is resolved for the most part.
People constantly complain how the DS4 thumbsticks wear out quickly I purchased these with my system and have never had an issue.
Grip-iT Analog Stick Covers, Set of 4 [link]
Get these dude. Two pairs for $5. You'll be buying new ones every couple of months or so, but otherwise I would just tear up the original material, let alone not having enough grip.
Day 1 PS4 with a 1TB hybrid drive. Not a single problem with it.
I use Grip-It thumbstick covers to avoid the wear on the old controllers. The new ones don't have this problem.
The 3rd ones down I've used before, lasted about 2 months before they crapped out, so that's 4 months (2 sets) for $5.00 not too bad. I just got different ones from Target (can't remember the brand) that are also pretty decent.
I got a set of these in a Loot Crate and put them on my old 360 controllers that were worn pretty smooth. Definitely better than they were without. As for affecting the height/throw, no idea.
They're rubbery slips that go over the joysticks to prevent peeling of the manufacturer's rubber. May just be the photo but it looks like some is already coming off of your left stick.
These are what I use but there are many other options out there: [link]
I use these on the left stick: [link]
with a kontrol freek on the right stick. It helps with the grip but doesn't increase the height of the left stick.
I use these. They do slightly touch the screen when closed. However, other than leaving 2 feint circle smudges on your screen, they work great.
I got a set of these from a LootCrate. Slapped them on my PS4 controller and never looked back. When I pick up my wife's controller, without them, it feels...naked. Like I'm touching something I shouldn't be.
Similar situation here. My tips:
I have these and it makes gaming with the Xbox 360 controller very comfortable with me.
Thanks for the info on the Steam controller. I'll wait to hear a bit more feedback before making a solid decision but I'm glad to have a little more insight than I did previously :)
I believe it. My newest one has an intermittently lazy left analog so it's all but useless. Even took it apart and cleaned the internals but that didn't fix it. I had the brilliant idea of cutting the remaining rubber off of the left stick to see if I could get these things to stay on better. Huge mistake 0/10 would not recommend. Now the pad slides.
I was a huge fan of the DS3 and used it on PC. I now use my DS4 and cannot go back to the DS3. It's so good! I turn off the light bar and don't use the touch pad.
I highly recommend these too: Grip-iT Analog Stick Covers, Set of 4 [link]
> I heard the first batch of controllers had problems with the analogue sticks rubbing off. This has pretty much been happening to mine. Compounded with sweaty hands, sometimes my thumbs don't grip well on the analogue sticks.
Buy these ASAP and thank me later.
No protection plan, but I did read great things about these so I think I am going to pick up a set. They're cheap enough to risk it.
Your gonna want to get these asap.
They cover the analog stick so it doesn't peel. I've had them since I got my PS4 and have had none of the peeling issues people complain about. They're also very inexpensive.
Alternatively you could get covers for your thumbsticks for $5 on Amazon. I got some after the rubber started tearing on 2 of my controllers and they're pretty incredible. I only use/need it on the left stick and it makes a huge difference.
I've used Grip-It covers on my x360/ps3/ps4 controllers. They work pretty well. Not sure if they're the "best", but much better than the plain sticks.
If you can't go through warranty, you can buy Analog Caps on Amazon for 5 dollars. This should fit on your shield since the size of the analog on the xbox 360 controller were basically the same. Just put it up on the analog and It's ready to go. But if you don't want this. You can try the harder way, buy parts on ebay and disassemble the shield and replace the analog. But analog caps are great and cheap option.
I picked up some of these:
It took a few games to break them in, but they're not bad. My thumb grips were torn to pieces after a month, so it was more of a necessity than a luxury thing.
If you are past your warranty, buy yourself some Grip-Its. Many people prefer to use these over the feel of the normal joysticks anyways. Beats having to buy a new controller, and you might just prefer them as well.
The DS4 is super comfortable and surprisingly light weight. The analogs feel great and soft, and their movement is very fluent. Triggers feel smooth and stick out more than the DS3 (which felt sunk'ed in), not to mention they have quick respond, because of their shape. Other than that, I advice that you get soft rubber tops for your Analogs, since a lot of people are complaining that they wear off (even tho I have not had the problem, I still bought some just for the long run - here's what I bought, which I HIIIIIIIIIGHLY RECOMMEND [link]).
Congrats and happy gaming!
I picked up Grip ITs and have really enjoyed them, and really good value at under $5.
They do not raise the height of the sticks but provide a nice tacky surface and I have found I am controlling games alot better
I bought some of these when my rubber started rubbing off.
They work fine and were super cheap. Great alternative till I get the White destiny controller.
Extremely unlikely, although there have been some rumors that they’ve already updated controller material quality in newer consoles. If you want to be safe, I would recommend these: [link]. I personally use love and vouch for them. If not, and you do get joystick peeling, Sony will send you a replacement.
Go to monoprice.com and get at least 6ft of mini usb cables (they are super cheap). If you like shooters get these grips. And the camera is not really necessary at this point, it's more a gimmick than anything else.
I read your post and came to the same conclusion. A few cases doesn't indicate a pattern for everyone, although it's understandable that from your perspective it doesn't look good for the controllers' quality.
However, I would also add that you can get stick protectors, like GripiTs that some people swear by. I believe this would be a much cheaper option that buying spare controllers.
Plus, in some cases I've heard that some retailers / Sony replace them.
Luckily I haven't needed to do any of that, as I'm another of those who have used my controllers daily since launch without any problems.
Yeah, the design is awesome but the quality is pretty weak considering the amount of tearing a lot of people are experiencing. Here are some analog covers a lot of people are using now, which are apparently awesome. [link]
I ordered mine over 12 days ago, still haven't gotten them, so just expect it to take some time.
why are there 100 posts like this every week. sheesh.
simple solution - buy a pack of analog stick covers, voila! which ones you ask because your to lazy to Google or search here?
try Gripits - [link]
I found these, Amazon and I love them.
Try to put them on the controller before the wearing out, otherwise
they wont fit well.
I'm so glad with those I bought a set for my two brothers and a friend.
I just want to recommend these awesome stick grips. I never had any issues with my controller, but I bought a pack of these for my aging 360 controller I use on my PC and I liked them so much I bought more so I could put them on all my controllers (and now my roommate has them on his controllers as well).
At the very least, I won't have to worry about my controller degrading, but they are actually much nicer than the default pad.
these are the most popular on the sub.
EDIT: I think they are out of stock, and only shady amazon sellers have them right now. It's usually under $5 for two pairs. Don't buy them for more than that plus some shipping.
EVERYBODY ORDER THEM OFF AMAZON NOT THEIR MAIN WEBSITE IT WILL TAKE MONTHS TO SHIP
New grips. They're softer and with a bit more "grippyness" than the standard joystick (IMO).
It took me a relatively short time to get used to it. The most disconcerting feeling is the logo. Once you get used to that it's easy peasy.
Here's the exact set I bought:
It took a month or two before my left thumbstick started peeling. I just bought these and it works even better so you have nothing to worry about even if it does happen.
I've had my PS4 since Christmas and play moderately. But I also have noticed the left stick on the lower outside part is tearing. I bought a pair of these DS4 thumbsticks yesterday from Amazon so hopefully that fixes the issue. I have heard nothing but good reviews on here about them.
I got it from Gamestop with a one year warranty but I heard people weren't getting a refund for this issue.
I have a launch console and never had any problems with the joysticks. Seeing those pictures got me paranoid, though. So, I bought these babies: [link]
I'm loving them so far. You should definitely pick some up if you're super worried about the sticks peeling.
I just ordered Grip it covers. Im not a fan of the concaved analog. It just feels weird trying to sprint with L3, my thumb is like half pressing it.
I bought these, mainly because my fingers were sliding around on the DS4 sticks too much:
I guess an added bonus is I won't have to deal with peeling sticks either! Sony needs to fix that, though.
I've had my PS4 for almost 3 weeks now. I was afraid of this happening, even though I take really good care of anything that I own. I bought these analog stick covers and they work really well. Feels pretty good to use too. I'd rather not use the covers, but I'd rather use the covers than have this happen to my DS4.
I would recommend Grip iTs. [link]
I've got these for all of my controllers. HIGHLY recommended Grip-iT Analog Stick Covers, Set of 4 [link]
I've been happy with these: [link]
I spent a grand total of $3.74 on Amazon to buy some thumbstick grip covers, 4 of them, because one of my sticks was beginning to peel (and I only have 2 controllers). For being about tree fiddy, these are some really high quality grips for everyday usage. For those interested, they can be bought here. It appears they have gone up in price now, though, closer to $5.00.
As for the drift my second controller had that problem and I returned it and no problems since.
I got a set of Grip-It's and they help with the short sticks really well. [link]
Something like this: [link]
Rubber thumb grips provide a lot of friction.
Which stick caps are those? I use these, but I am always looking for recommendations!
They look nice on my PS4 and Wii U Pro Controller
How I felt when I picked up the Elite for the first time. The tasteful thickness of the side grips, the weight of the device in your hand, oh my god... it even had extra buttons...
Haha I may grab the $80 (probably stolen) controller if he ever responds. He said $80 was fine then hasnt responded, but its pretty far away. Still thats $70 off, and its unopened, so I guess Ill hold off on ordering the amazon stuff yet. I really like the Scruf grips but I dont really like trigger locks since they mess with other games, I want the thick rubber grip feel without buying an unnecessary pair, but it seems like that's the best one out there. I have seen the wrap-on grip covers but they arent as badass. haha.
edit - i ordered the white scuf grips, a day-one non3.5mm x1 controller (as my 4th controller for game nights since i had 3 already, dont need the 3.5 on all 4) and some of these guys: [link]
overall spent $50. Ill prob pick up the elite later on.
You do know they make grips for the thumbsticks?
Really like the Grip It stick covers
I have Grip-Its, is there a difference?
My ps4 analog sticks were starting to wear down so I bought these to prevent it completely getting destroyed
I highly recommend these! They make it even better
Grip-iT Analog Stick Covers [link] and the thumbsticks I got were these: Custom Metal Dark Grey Thumbsticks Analogue Thumb Sticks&Grey Chrome D-pad for Sony Dual Shock 4 PS4 Controllers [link]
I just got these from Amazon and they work great.
Hahaha pardon me, that does seem so random. I use a variety of these [link]
These are the ones I have
Pick up a set of these to keep your PS4 sticks in good shape or cover a top that the rubber has already worn off of.
Buy analog stick rubber caps to protect your sticks from crumbeling apart.
Controller skin case to keep it protected from dust
There arent many themes to choose from but you can find them in the games category, there are a few free and a few premium paid themes.
i purchased these and no issues
I totally recommend getting this charging station. Idk what its called I just saw it in the used section at gamestop but heres a picture.
And also you should really get some of those thumbstick grips because I've read stories of people's analog sticks tearing within two weeks. Heres a link to the ones i use.
Also Don't get the sony gold wireless if you get a headset the pulse is much better. They're like the exact same headset with different looks except the pulse has the crazy bass feature you can turn on.
unfortunately you can't choose the color. I just bought them, but don't want the blue ones at all. They look ugly on the controller.
Also, not sure why your link shows them at $4.99 and out of stock, while this link shows them at $3.86 and in stock.
Unfortunately too, the damn things were $3.99 for shipping. Cost me more for shipping than for the actual product.
I'm sending back both of my controllers for this. Regardless, I'm still going to put these on top of them. [link]
Also, this is what I received recently and they blow the Grip-It's out of the water.[link]
Here ya go
I got these ones about a week ago and I really like them. They fit very well, and were easy to install.
Happened to my 2 controllers. This solved the problem for $2 per controller
If you plan on going all-digital, upgrade your hard drive before you start putting games on it. Really, if you plan on upgrading your hard drive at all, I would do it now. That way you don't have to re-load every game, save, and setting to the new hard drive.
This is a great option if you are looking for a new hard drive. You take the 2TB HD out of the external, put it in the PS4, and put your PS4 HD inside the external case. For $100 you get a 2TB HD in your PS4 (instead of 500GB), and you get a USB3.0 500GB external.
Considering some games are around 50GB (even with the disc), you may want to upgrade depending on how many you plan on having at once. I would definitely get the controller grips though. No need for a fancy $15 pair.
Next time, just get some of these. ;)
I bought these work great and feel better IMO
Definitely some stick covers I recommend these
get these [link]
if its a grip problem
Mine wore away... But I bought Grip-ITs off Amazon and have been happy with them.
Buy caps for your controller asap. I wore mines down and bought this today.
Cover them with these
They're cheap and they work much better than the defult rubber pads on the DS4.
The Last of Us
PS+ so that you get free games
If your controller sticks start to wear out get this
worth more than gold in Canada: [link]
You are very welcome!
I, and apparently a lot of other people, use these.
You can put these on it (or something similar): Grip-It or KontrolFreek.
The point of the replacement program is if you have a recently bought controller that has messed up due to their poor manufacturing - since you got this from someone else you don't know if he damaged it due to poor handling or what.
Sometimes Dualshock 4s aren't too expensive, like from "Buy" on eBay.
nope, not a cliffhanger
Playing BF4 as well, I love these: Click
I've just ordered these Grip-It Analog Stick (Xbox 360/PS3) by Redback Sales Ltd [link]
I use these Grip-It covers. Cheep and really comfortable to use.
I'm having this same problem. I just ended up buying something similar to this and that's solved the problem for my needs.
People seem to love these.
I don't care for the frog foot logo on them, but it beats being uncomfortable.
Use these.. seriously I have them and it helps so much
These fit the ds4 perfectly
Also one pair is black so u dont have to use the blue ones
I have these on two of my controllers, they fit pretty well.
I ordered those from amazon UK and they fit just fine, i've been using them all week. Feel great too, better overall grip, easy to put on.
I may purchase those Grip-iT stick covers mentioned in another thread Link
Gamestop has these GelTabz that aren't half bad if you're interested in buying local.
The Grip-iTs on Amazon recieve positive reviews.
Heres all I can do for you.
Here are some pretty nice looking ones, I'm not certain on the language the website is in. [link]
Also in Japanese? Again I don't know for certain which language these sites are in. [link]
And I don't know if this would work but maybe you could try modifying a grip for a xbox 360. [link]
Why does no one carry thumb grips?! I went to Wal-Mart, Target, Game Stop, Toys R Us, CompUSA and BestBuy. No one had any kind of thumb grips. I wound up getting these from Amazon.
I use these stick covers on all my controllers, and I'd highly recommend them. No sweaty thumbs, good grip, easy to install/remove, don't damage your thumbsticks (and keep the DS4's natural grip coating from rubbing off), and they're only $5.
For those who have the thumb grip wearing off problem. My solution was to buy these guys and slap em on!
they work great and is not a bad investment. I also like how they feel.
I just bought KontrolFreek's CQC Signatures from... well... KontrolFreek (lol). They are being delivered (just ordered them last night) so I have no way to review them yet, but I advice you check them out. I personally been using these grips this whole time, they been REALLY REALLY good, but they do wear off tho (and eventually start warping around - damn you Destiny!!!). If you want something for a good price, I recommend those 100%.
Yes that's unfortunately true, but it's not exclusive to NBA 2K lol, it'll happen in any game with a lot of intense stick movement. I've taken like 5 controllers total to exchange at target, until I finally bought some grip covers (Here). It works like a charm I must say and don't have to worry about it anymore.
It still sucks that it happen, however at least Sony has acknowledged it
: So the trick I did (i think this only works if your ps4 controller is in good condition besides the thumbsticks) is bought a controller at target and just put the old controller in the new package, and went and exchanged it for a new one. You can even get a full refund I believe if you don't want the extra controller. Obviously don't be obvious about it, do this in the span of a week or so. Not in all the same day. And you don't have to either, just use the new one and return the old one in a few days saying the new one ripped. Or exchange.
Also don't forget to get some gripit thumbstick covers.
Also you might want to double check if you can get the full refund, I'm not 100% sure.
If I were you, I'd buy Grip-iT. Though I don't own it, it's a pretty well known thumbstick and serves it purposes.
But if you thought the thumbstick looks like shit, you're not alone. If you know how to, you can buy Xbone's thumbstick, it costs twice as much and you'll have to put in on manually but hot damn it feels, looks and lasts good.
Sadly no.. but I highly recommend this:
Have you tried these? Game changing feel over both PS4 and XBone thumbsticks -- [link]
you can buy replacement sticks for pretty cheap, or you can buy a cap for it.
i have these
Grip-Its.. been using these for over 2 weeks and love them. I couldn't game without them.
I've used these on all my consoles for years and they are still in minted condition.
I ordered these and they work great on my launch day ds4.
