After reading this be sure to check out the book Slahi wrote while he was still ~~involuntarilly detained~~ imprisoned, Guantanamo Diary. It's Kafkaesque how many times he had to explain his version of events to different military and intelligence agencies and how their conception of what he was even accused of in the first place got more and more confused.
You should consider reading this book. The guy was never charged with anything, never fought against American interests, and certainly did a lot less than our friend the Proud Boy here.
14 years in Guantanamo ; the last 6 years he was cleared for release so at least the torture stopped. From the wikipedia page, during his time in Guantanamo :
>Salahi was subjected to isolation, temperature extremes, beatings and sexual humiliation by military interrogators. In one incident, he was blindfolded and taken out to sea for a mock execution.
