There was an official dvd release of Gunbuster by Honneamise. It was extremely limited. It was a gatefold, with a full mini artbook included.

What you more than likely have is the HK bootleg (I have it as well) where the ships are called stoves, because they used machine translations.

Both Gunbuster and Diebuster have a DVD stateside release.
