I like bringing a hydration bladder. Then when I want my dog to drink, I press open the bite valve with my fingers and give her a stream of water to lick at.
That being said, we also have a silicone bowl that I keep in the hydration pack because sometimes she's too distracted outside to lick the stream of water and I literally have to shove a bowl full of water in her face.
