I have a slow cooker with a similar thermometer. You plug it into the side of the slow cooker and there's a hole in the lid to put the thermometer through. Like this one
It was probably left behind by a previous occupant.
I have Hamilton Beach, you can get a big one for under 50 bucks [link]
Seems like an interesting idea but in my opinion it would make more sense to just get a crock pot and sous vide separately (if you have the space to store, of course). Like another poster said, I wonder how much of a pain that would be to clean and if the circulator would wear out quicker being exposed to the sauces, etc. of the food being cooked. Aside from that, $400 seems pretty high for a device like that given you could get an Anova and something like this ([link]) for less then half the cost.
Also, if you already have a big enough pot for the circulator to cook in, then the sous vide machine itself won't take up very much room at all.
Christmas is coming soon! Ask for a slow-cooker with an automatic timer. Perfect for those long days when you're not sure what time you'll be home! I have this one and I love it!
150 Degrees (F) for 4-5 hours. Not all crockpots cant maintain that temp. but technology has gotten to that point.
That can maintain the correct temp and is large enough for alot of liquids.
I like hamilton beach's 6-quart crockpot. it's less than 50 bucks [link]
The only one you will ever need. Ii own three.
I've been eyeing at this one.. What do you think?
