hit up a local hydroponic store and buy digital pH meter along with calibration fluid, it will make adjusting the pH much easier.
I was sort of looking at something like:
I'm not sure if its overkill for me though, and I"ll have to see how much it costs once I figure out what else I need to buy for it...

Pesticides is a good thought! I'm in Canada and I've read that we can't get neem oil here, but I want to do some digging. I don't have anything at the house, so I'll look into that and the soap and copper fungicide! Hopefully I can get all in Canada.
Thank you for the suggestions!
Thank you! Sorry, I'm kind of jumping on OP's thread, but I'm also making my christmas list!
I'm seeing a couple of options in the price range I can afford, but tbh I know nothing about testing for PH.
There's the 98107 model:
But there's also this style that is different again:

Then I see there's different solutions and such, what exactly do you need to get with it? (Sorry!)
You can't go wrong with a hand held, water proof Hanna. Make sure to pick up some calibration solution and read about how to re-calibrate it.

I cannot recommend the Omega PHH-7011 enough, but it is $99. It does come with all of your solutions, a carrying case, etc. You can only buy it directly from Omega.
In my holiday gift guide, I recommended the Hanna 98107 as a budget alternative ($40).
