I'd go for an R7 to be safe, unless you don't mind use GPU encoding. Another option is to get an R5 and an HDMI acquisition box (like this), for approximatively the price of an R7. This would allow all the room for games on your CPU (just make sure that the box you're buying has it own encoding chip and does not rely on your CPU)
You need to snap the app to the side. But think still only does in 5/min chunks. I would get a sperate DVR and turn off capture on th XB1. One less thing to process. I did this to try to reduce lag.
A quick look on azn. Not sure if its good <$150.
Hauppauge - HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition High Definition Game Capture Device https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008ZT8QKO/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_P49pvb0869JCS
Am not sure if this helps but i have a Happauge pvr 2 and i could use obs to stream and record with it using a video capture source on obs.
I imagine a PVR would work. It works like a VCR; it records what's playing on the screen. Maybe something like http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-Gaming-Edition-Definition-Capture/dp/B008ZT8QKO
I use a Hauppage HD PVR 2
If you wanted to use DirecTV, you'd have to use a capture device such as one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-Gaming-Definition-Capture-Device/dp/B008ZT8QKO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451857862&sr=8-1&keywords=hdpvr, http://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Capture-PlayStation-gameplay-1080p/dp/B00840353W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1451857862&sr=8-2&keywords=hdpvr, http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-Colossus-Express-Internal-HD-PVR/dp/B00WMJMDG6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451858007&sr=8-1&keywords=hauppauge+colossus+2, or https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensitypro4k then run it through a program such as VideoRedo (http://www.videoredo.com/en/Products_TVSuite_V5.html) which has built it commercial detection. VideoRedo only works for Windows but there are perhaps similar but not as seamless options for linux. VideoRedo does the job well and can't be easier to use. Well worth the money.
No, but I can imagine you can record the screen itself.

I have cable, but hacked my PVR to install a 4TB HDD into it.
The only other choice other than those two would be the hdpvr 2 http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-Gaming-Edition-Definition-Capture/dp/B008ZT8QKO
Disclaimer
Streaming is tons of fun and getting to interact with people while doing something that you like is great. It does take a long time to setup everything though, but once you got it once, you are set for good. This will get you through the basics.
Basics
There are many capture cards out there. Some are good, some are bad. Since you are planning on just streaming with some friends, you are not going to need anything like the Black Magic Intensity Shuttle, Elgato, or the Hauppauge HD PVR. Though those are all fantastic capture cards, you might be better off sticking with something like the classic Dazzle, Diamond Game Capture, or Roxio Game Capture.
Even though all of the cheaper ones have only a couple stars, they are basically what you pay for. I have the Diamond GC500 HD Game Capture (doesn't actually capture in HD) and it is good for the price I got it for. It is nothing amazing, but it gets the job done for streaming the tournaments that I host.
If you have a laptop, you can use the webcam to record, or you can do a search on amazon and find some nice webcams for a really good price. All three of these are really dope for the price.
Follow this guide to help you set up OBS (the free streaming software). It was incredibly helpful for me when I started streaming. Just remember, you are going to need a layout to place all of the things together on twitch. A simple Google search for "Twitch livestream Length Pixels x Width pixels layout" will yield a lot of results.
You seem to have this covered :)
That should be it! If you need any help with anything, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help you! :) Good luck with streaming!
Well the one I'm getting would be this one : Link from the reviews I hear it captures at Lossless before compression. With that said would be better if I stuck the card onto the HTPC instead of my main? I can also put the PVR after which automaticly captures at 1080p and converts it to x264. But I would then run into the problem of wire order, hence why I need help.
But do you suggest I get an AVR as well? What would that replace? Also the Analog isn't being converted its straight HDMI.
just mentioned this to my brother, and he 1-upped me, this looks like it claims to be what you want
A lot of people use this.
I'm currently in an email conversation with a guy 20 minutes away about buying a Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition Capture Device(not headphones, but bear with me).
I'm selling my Audio Technica ATH-M30X's for $60, almost brand new. He told me he wanted $60 for the device, or $40 plus the headphone. Nope. I'd be losing out big time on those.
So then he said Ok to the $60 for the device, but then offered me $130 Bose Earbuds, presumable these ones for the headphones.
So yeah, they are twice as much, but I'm not sure I want earbuds, and I don't even know the condition. Should I be wary of this trade?
Essentially I can go with
Option A) Buy the PVR for $60(which is $90 less than brand new) and be done with it, OR
Option B) Trade $60 and my M30X's for the PVR and the Bose Earbuds.
I don't understand why he won't do my $60 headphones for his $60 PVR. I can't seem to talk him down to less than $30+ the M30X's.
