Have you considered a cooling pad? You could get one that has a USB that plugs into your computer that powers fans that pull heat from the laptop. Something like this from Amazon

Has served me well, is quiet and has RGB if you’re into that.
I went with the Havit 3 fan Laptop Cooling Pad and really like it so far. It’s greatly improved my cpu and gpu temps while being surprisingly quiet! I can now lower the fan curve on the actual laptop’s fans (which get very very loud if left to run over 50%) and still get good airflow and temps, or I can use the cooling pad compounded with the laptop fans to keep temps more stable on overclocking.

Havit brand, it was 27$ on amazon, they sell cheaper gaming accessories but their quality is great imo. im using a havit mouse, cooler, mouse pad and headset stand. planning on upgrading the mouse tho

It's a little on the loud side, but it works well and RGB so the laptop is faster. Lol

My whole set up is RGB so it blended in well
This is the one I have. Not a lot of fans, but the strongest fans out of the three cooling pads I've had, and sturdy.
I don't use it for the s17 other than to get some air on the backend, but it worked wonders helping to keep the temps down on my a15.

It does help quite a lot, i cant tell a whole lot about the thermals but she sometimes plays games like GTA V, the Witcher 3, Subnautica and also does gfx design & video editing and the laptop always works fine without stuttering or thermal throtteling (which it did before). I was unable to find the exact one that she has on the Internet and unfortunately can't tell you its name right now, because my GF is at a friend studying for her exams but i found the company and seller online.
This would be a pretty good solution for you IF your Laptop has Air intakes on the bottom.

The CTRL key is always in the bottom-left corner of the keyboard, so there's no way to swap it with the Fn key.
Playing it while plugged into a dock and with the screen closed should (I think) be ok, but I would keep an eye on the temps just in case. I've got this cooler:

It is pretty good at cooling, the only issues I have with it are that the fan controls are on the back and the extra usb slot is pretty bad. Good at cooling though.

Dude, get one, they are cheap and test it out. It depends on the ambient temp of the space you are using it in. If you are in Phoenix in July and ambient is 100 deg- expect that a blower of hot air across hot air will do less than if you are in a temp controlled env. I'd give a Havit a try, RGB or $20 version. Both are free returns on Amazon as in if you try and don't like you can return w/out a Amazon check against your account ( every return you return on Amazon is flagged btw, so free return items are a good thing).
