I think this book is actually Sarno’s second book and a little bit easier to digest- I would start with it:
Yes. Check out john Sarno’s work on TDS. But this would not be the solution. It would just manifest in something else. And no this isn’t some crazy snake oil bs pseudoscience

I am going to third this. If your back hurts that bad then orthopedic would be able to figure out what is wrong.
In case nothing is structurally wrong and they point you down the PT route for strengthening, I would _highly_ recommend reading "Healing Back Pain". I dealt with back pain off-and-on for a decade, read that book, and it has helped me manage that pain MUCH better than previously. Living a healthier lifestyle (which PT will help you do) will get you back on track, but that sets your mental focus right so you can look past that pain.
With that being said, go to a doctor first as it sounds you have something acute that needs resolving.
I feel you on this one! I have a similar situation mentally in dealing with my pain. I have no clue what type of pain you might be experiencing and what your diagnosis is but hang in there! I had the book below offered to me while I am recovering and it helped a lot in dealing with the menta side of back pain. The book basically suggests that your mental response to back pain helps trigger your body into action and facilitates the connections in your mind associated to pain. It’s hard to sum up the idea of the book into one sentence, so I suggest you read it! Hope this helps and you feel better, just hang in there.

Maybe you have tms. I’ve struggled with back pain my entire adult life.
Read this book and maybe it will help you like it did to me

I stopped going to chiropractor and physio 2 years ago.
I have dealt with back pain and sciatica for most of my life. 3 years ago I read this book. This book changed my life. I can’t emphasize that enough , this book changed my life. I have no more back pain and play golf free from physical pain, the mental pain is always close

The only one I have positive experience with, in terms of pain lessening, is DL-phenylalanine.

Dr. Sarno was a legend, starting in the 1960s. He recently passed away. Read the comments on Amazon at least, even if you don't read the book. It helped me, not with back pain, but with ALL my running injuries. (I started to meditate in 2011, no injuries since).
It's psychosomatic.
I'm sure right now people are thinking that I'm saying "your pain is not real". I had this pain. I know it's real. You probably have something called "TMS".
Reading this book and absorbing it cured me of back pain. http://www.amazon.com/Healing-Back-Pain-Mind-Body-Connection/dp/0446392308
Read the reviews. Buy the book. Or borrow it.
You have to keep an open mind, because many people cannot accept this way of thinking about their pain (or other TMS-related malady). I think it's because they get insulted or offended they are not being taken seriously because they think they are being told the pain they have is due to some sort of "mental weakness". It's not weakness. The pain is brain's method to distract you from some unresolved stress or misplaced rage -- stuff that almost everyone carries with them. And TMS manifests itself as different problems with different people. It can be back pain, allergies, knee problems, so-called "fibromyalgia", irritable bowel.. you name it-- it's probably TMS.
The author of this book had also proven that bulging discs, herniated discs, "misalignment" of the spine causing compressed nerves do not cause pain. There are tens of millions of people who lead pain free lives who have all sorts of these "problems" in the spine.
And because the pain is mental, chiropractic, heat, cold, accupuncture, drugs, surgery- you name it- will only give you temporary relief (placebo effect).
Trust the author of this book. He does not hawk his books anywhere. He does not do any public advertising of his books or his theory.
And it's really no "theory". It's really what causes most pain and other illnesses. (Obviously there are serious illnesses and trauma where TMS does not apply. No one is suggesting cancer and heart disease are psychosomatic- or that if you are in a car accident your pain is all in your head.)
Sorry to hear you are suffering. May I ask if you've ever read any of the work of Dr. John Sarno?
You might get something out of:
I just wanted to mention in case you hadn't seen this.
make surgery your very very last resort.
others have suggested psychological factors....this happened to be the case for me after suffering RSI for 8 months. I had heard about Dr Sarno and TMS for many many years while trying to find help for my back pain....and everyone would say it's the only thing that ever helped them, was reading his book. sounded like total bullshit every time. I even bought the book and started to read it but quickly put it down. couldn't get my head around it.
fast forward to 10 years later and Ive been suffering from RSI pain in my right wrist. It started happening to my left wrist too. I had tried nearly everything except for surgery.
then one night, out of desperation....I found this story:
http://aaroniba.net/how-i-cured-my-rsi-pain
his story was exactly mine. for once I felt relief and hope and I finally decided to give Sarno's book a try. my pain was gone 4 days later.
by educating yourself that your brain could be causing pain because of emotional stress.....your brain gives up the game and the pain leaves. give it a try....you have nothing to lose.
here's his books....read the amazon reviews of what people are saying: this was his real first big one: https://www.amazon.com/Healing-Back-Pain-Mind-Body-Connection/dp/0446392308/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1533405902&sr=8-1&keywords=healing+your+back+pain+by+john+sarno
this is another really good one of his: https://www.amazon.com/Mindbody-Prescription-Healing-Body-Pain/dp/0446675156/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1533405902&sr=8-3&keywords=healing+your+back+pain+by+john+sarno
found this guy's blog post about the Aaron Iba story I linked above, he had similar results: https://www.mnn.com/health/fitness-well-being/stories/how-i-finally-cured-my-rsi-and-back-pain
there's a whole online community for this stuff called the TMSwiki. here's a link to that wiki's 'success stories' page so you can read people's joy as they overcome their pain: http://www.tmswiki.org/forum/forums/success-stories-subforum.27/
I totally get it if it sounds like utter bullshit......someday's I still can't believe it.
So sorry you don't have adequate support!!
Developing postural and muscular awareness has really helped my back pain. I highly recommend yoga, BUT not regular yoga. I took yoga before I knew how to work with my body and constantly injured myself and my back felt worse after.
It'd be great to work with a private teacher, but obviously that can be expensive (I still haven't saved enough money to do it, ha). Definitely look into doing this online course: https://www.racheljesien.com/. I took a workshop with Rachel, and then took the online course, and it was great. It's an initial investment (I think it was a couple hundred dollars? But she runs sales sometimes so email maybe asking when a sale would be), but you'll learn sets of short exercises you can do everyday to help yourself. The most important thing is to do exercises DAILY. The course also includes a private facebook group that has a live video Q&A once a month, and a big support system, so it may help you get the support you are currently lacking, and have people to talk to and ask questions (plus you can watch ALL the past live videos, so there is a lot of content).
Other things to help develop bodily awareness: Feldenkrais method (I think there are some videos on youtube), treat your own back by McKenzie (cheap copies on Amazon), books by Peter Egoscue (cheap copies on Amazon).
Eat as healthy as possible, nourish your body, meditate every day (even for 5 min). Sleep either on your back or on your side with a small pillow between your knees.
I'm concerned about your abusive home life. Do you have to continue to interact with your family? I think there is a huge connection between emotional trauma and back pain. Being in that environment can overstimulate your sympathetic nervous system (the flight or fight response) and that can leave some of your deeper core muscles in states of contraction--leading to pain. Dr. John Sarno believed almost all back issues have emotional causes --which, while I agree there is a connection, I find his book reductive in that you can just think away pain, and dismissive of ANY physical causes of back pain, it's a little more complex than that! That being said, dealing with my emotional issues/trauma did vastly help my physical pain--that's not to say the pain was "in my head" but that is to say that living in a more stressed state impacted my body physically.
There are community resources for mental health--hopefully it is offered free at your school. There are also community resources for acupuncture that you could check out (the situations are usually non-private, but it's pretty cheap).
I'm so sorry about your situation, please feel free to reach out if you need someone to talk to!
edit to say: you shouldn't be taking ibuprofen everyday long term! that can really mess with your stomach.
Regarding your edit, I have a couple friends who swear by this book

Give this book a shot, worked for me after 5 yrs of being handicapped by back pain. Healing Back Pain: The Mind-Body Connection https://www.amazon.com/dp/0446392308/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_7SY75Z011YBFWGCDGB3J
Damn, that really doesn't sound fun. I know this sounds a bit wishy washy, but you can't argue with results. I had neck pain that started very light, then ramped up over the course of eight years to the point where I almost wished I wouldn't live too long because I was sure it would be a life of red hot pain. I got an x-ray, MRI, cortisone injections, physical therapy, etc. and everything came back as normal. My dad recommended a book that worked for him called Healing Back Pain by Dr. John Sarno, and it fixed my problem. I occasionally still have neck pain, but overall it went from a daily hell, to maybe something I deal with once a month and know how to handle.
Like I said, I know it sounds kinda like bs, but if you've tried everything and are willing to approach it with an open mind, it's definitely worth a shot. The reviews on Amazon echo my experience, and it's only a few bucks (there's also an audio version). https://www.amazon.com/Healing-Back-Pain-Mind-Body-Connection/dp/0446392308/
Thanks again for the feedback, and best of luck!
