I know this probably won't help you right this minute. But for large conventions I usually wear a pair of high fidelity ear plugs. Loud/roaring crowds set off my anxiety, if that sound contributes to over-stimulating you, those earplugs will help filter it out. The loud roar gets muffled to a whisper but you will still be able to hear someone talking to you / near you. They've helped me a ton.
I'd say they're about average - though I go to a lot of concerts and am a big advocate for nearly-constant earplug use at full-band shows, especially indoors.
I've been using these $10 earplugs for years and they are supposed to simply lower the volume and let in the good frequencies, rather than just plug up your ears like foam earplugs. I'd say invest in something like this, and if you don't want to wear them the whole time, just pop em in during the louder songs, or at least when you feel it's uncomfortably loud. It's worth it in the long run! :) and have fun!
This.
I picked up some Hear-o's for this very reason.
While they're still earplugs, and do some dampening, these are still my favorite earplugs. I've had the same set for over 10 years and they still work great.

Protect your hearing ya'll!
Metal isn't cool if you can't still hear it when you're 60.
I’m also in my 30’s and started wearing earplugs to shows (should have started years ago). I recommend the Hearo’s earplugs. I picked mine up at guitar center because I didn’t have time to wait for shipping. But I have had the same pair for 2 years now and they are still in great shape.
High fidelity earplugs are $10 and they work incredibly better than the squishy foam type (and tissues)
I get Hearos from Guitar Center (or Amazon), the $13 ones are awesome you can totally hear everything it just lowers the volume. The cheap styrofoam ones are why people don't like earplugs, they don't know there are much better options.
Can you use instacart? I have sensory issues too, and I’ve been using instacart lately. It’s only like $5.00 or so for the delivery fee and then however much you want to tip. If you can’t use instacart these earplugs are practically invisible, and they don’t muffle sounds, they just make them sound softer. You can still understand what people are saying to you. I also second what the other person said about sunglasses, those help too.
I'd add that you should get high quality plugs like Hearos, the kind made for musicians. They have a pretty flat frequency damping that let you hear everything around you for safety. You can get them at guitar stores or on Amazon. They aren't cheap, but they are washable and they last forever.
These ones, not the foam ones.
I've used HEAROS the last few years and am quite happy with them. They fit comfortably and drop the volume a bit (thus protecting your hearing) without negatively effecting the music. I believe these are the ones I use, or are at least very similar. The carrying case is very handy and I've yet to lose a pair.
Whatever you choose I'm sure will be comfortable enough. Just check the dB-blocking ratings and see if they fit your needs. And recommend them to your friends too! Hearing loss sucks so it's best to get after it early in life.
Can you link me to the ones you use? I use earplugs like these that I love at the $12 mark, but I'd be willing to go up to $30 if it was something that was noticeably better. I go to multiple concerts a week usually and wear ear plugs almost 100% of the time. Been going to concerts regularly since the late 90s and its just not worth it, not wearing them.
Hearos High Fidelity - good attenuation, fairly flat response (barring some high end rolloff).
I'd recommend starting with them in versus trying to a/b or putting them in after you get your sound (trust that your gear's gonna sound good once you have settings worked out well in advance). Hearing full volume will fuck with your ears enough to where the attenuated sound just won't feel loud enough.
If you're in a time crunch and can't wait for Amazon, Guitar Center has these hearos brand plugs which we used for Excision. They worked great.
Decided to step it up and ordered some Ear Peace for EDC Vegas so we'll see how those work.
I use hearos like these when I perform and rehearse, but I always forget to bring them to shows I'm attending, and I always regret it. Tinnitus is one my biggest fears.
edit: Oh, and I should say I highly recommend these earplugs. They're cheap, effective, and you really don't lose any quality in the sound.
The orange bullshits are going to muffle the fuck out of the sound and make it bad. You won't really get that it's making it bad until you invest in better earplugs. The one Sheep posted is good, I myself prefer these: Hearos
I've worn these to a bunch of metal shows over the years including Sleep, Sunn O))), Jucifer and Swans (not metal, but fucking LOUD). No hearing loss, and no fidelity loss either.
I have these and they work just fine. They pretty much have to go in the ear to be of any help, even the foam ones to some extent, but they are much too muffled and cut out all the highs to be useful.
You'll get used to it in about 20 min and you'll be able to hear in 30 years, i think that's worth it.
I've used these at the last 3 shows I've gone to and they've been amazing.

Hearos high fidelity earplugs are $10, I have used similar ones and they are nice because they don't totally muffle all sound, so you can still hear things. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0037KM8QY/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_K4Y2T3X5ZV8VETJJGZQ3
Before I got custom earplugs, I swore by these for “not TOO bad” concert levels. But I also used them for day-to-day life: HEAROS High Fidelity Series Ear Plugs for Comfortable Long Term Use with Free Case, 1 Pair https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0037KM8QY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_45z0Db89E759A

I’m sorry these will be visible, but the first ones I linked to will be less so. I have long hair which covers my ears, so I’ve been lucky in that aspect. Good luck!
Those will work, but these are the ones I was talking about.
I Just bought these for Coachella, supposed to be really good for music. Hearos High Fidelity Series
