Heh, Thanks! I'm working on it.
If you're interested in comic-style coloring, Hi-Fi Color for Comics is full of really solid instruction.
Constantly network and never stop practicing! Make yourself known in the comic community and doors will definitely open up for you, but always remember to be as nice as you possibly can! Taking some classes can be a huge help even if they are standard art classes as they will teach you different things you might now have thought of before. These books are the greatest books ever and I still use them to this day: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1581809921/ref=s9_simh_gw_p14_d0_g14_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1K8Z2W54REKA8R9RHZ4P&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846
Most of these are pretty standard modern book art -- digital coloring over inked line art. You can learn how to color like this from books like Hi-Fi Color For Comics or at forums like HueDoo. The trick where the lines are colored rather than black is called a "color hold".
