I actually recommend purchasing a lap desk, can get padded ones so you can lay down and still have a flat surface. Here’s a link to one I used to use and I loved it! Cheap and effective. Can even use a mouse if you want.

On the incredibly rare occurrences I even play a game with a mouse in bed I use the same lapdesk I use for my couch.
Pretty much this.

look, there are probably better solutions than mine, but mine is real simple and cheap.

its wider than it looks, so plenty of room to space out your hotas. it has a pillow underneath, so if you are on a couch, the floor, an office chair, its comfortable and stable. I plan to get some rubber sticky cabinet liner to run across the top to keep the hotas from sliding, but its really not necessary.
Have the same keyboard except with a red backlight. Awesome keyboard for anyone who is looking to build a living room PC. Purchased this lap desk from Amazon, a Logitech G240 mouse pad (for its slim profile), and a Logitech G602 and couldn't be happier with the set up. Fully wireless unlike the Roccat Sova and Corsair Lapdog, and the battery lasts for 4-5 days depending on backlight usage.
I'm considering getting this lap desk to place the HOTAS on while I'm gaming... Maybe velcro-ing the HOTAS in place.
Anyone tried that method?
I recently got mine as well and had this laptop desk recommended by u/crocodial. It works really well, especially if you get some velcro command tabs to keep the HOTAS stable.
Much cheaper, more portable and same basic functionality.

I got one of these for $16.
