I only use wiimote+nunchuck. I have however been eyeing a Hori Battle Pad since I have some Wii VC games that require a classic controller.
Ah, okay I have this Hori one. Guess they work the same. Wish theyd make a controller with a switch where its a wii u pro controller and flipping the switch makes it work like a wii classic controller.
I agree, this would be awesome. If anything, they should license 3rd parties to do this, like how Hori made these for the Wii U.
At the very least, the gamecube controller doesn't actually have a different control scheme, they're just placed differently, so that should be a seamless change.
As for the N54, I'm less optimistic of that happening. The C buttons change from analog to digital control, so that might be harder to manage in games. Plus, does anyone really prefer C to an analog stick?
It's on my list of games to get on the VC. I'm struggling playing some of the older games with the new controllers. I bought this controller and it is making my life easier with N64 games. It's modeled on a Game Cube controller, but it is close enough to a N64 controller with the larger A/B buttons so it works better.
Pro controller works for everything that the gamepad does. Dude, trust /u/nuclearOptimist and DrDroop on this: the PDP pad sucks.
If you absolutely have to get a pad on the cheap then get the HORI ones. http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Battle-Mario-Version-Turbo-u/dp/B00ND0E5ZU
There currently is no way to use the Gamecube controllers on PM WiiU, but hopefully modders will keep working on a solution.
The best controller for now is probably a Hori battle pad
Ah that sucks, but a new controller does not have to be that expensive, I do not know your budget of course, but getting a controller like this one and maybe even second hand could do the job.
This controller connects to your Wii remote and acts as a Wii Pro controller. That way you can play every VC title available for the Wii. If you're playing a lot of 2 player games as well it would add up of course.
Don't get the PDP fight pad. Those controllers aren't really made well. Get the HORI Battle Pad. This is what I used when I played Xenoblade Chronicles. The controller connects to your Wiimote like the classic controller does. That and it's made by HORI. They are THE third party accessory makers for Nintendo due to their high quality products.
I think you're out of luck for a wired, battery free solution. If you're having trouble finding a wii classic controller, you can buy a hori battlepad, which serves the same purpose. Like the wii classic, it attaches to the wiimote. http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Battle-Mario-Version-Turbo-u/dp/B00ND0E5ZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1433380277&sr=8-1&keywords=hori+battlepad
From experience, a 3rd party controller will always be extremely lackluster. Instead, either just pay the price for an official one, or get a licensed product. I've heard good things about the Hori battle pad, so while I don't have first-hand experience with it, it looks like a good option.
They work with my adapter... What kind of turbo controller were they? Standard gamestop brand or something else? some don't work with the adapters, but gamestop does unless something is wrong with it. (my friend had a similar issue with an old gamestop controller, but mine worked on his adapter. and both worked on the mayflash adapter, oddly enough)
And hori fight pads do have turbo. http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Battle-Mario-Version-Turbo-u/dp/B00ND0E5ZU
See the turbo button?
PDP controllers are simply some of the worst controllers I have ever touched. If you want a GCN-style one, get the Hori.
You can use one of these controllers:
...and it has to be plugged into a wiimote. Which one you choose is personal preference. The last 2 listed are modeled on the gamecube controller.
I recommend the Hori Battle Pad.
In order to play a majority of the games on the Wii's virtual console (not the Wii U's virtual console) you need a wii classic controller , but the originals are hard to find. Thankfully the new hori battle pads and PDP battle pads also work as a classic controller.
i use one of these and it works quite well. They've gone way up in price on amazon though. I got a second one from walmart for close to the 30 dollars I originally paid off amazon.
Worst case scenario, there's this out there. Plays like a GC controller but is recognized by the hardware as a classic controller. Less elegant and more expensive than software, though.
no actual gamecube controller support, but these are great alternatives. they are actually classic controllers, but they are shaped like gamecube controllers. very comfortable, and extremely high quality. also great for games like mario kart and smash.
I would suggest getting this instead. I don't own one myself, but I've heard that they are much better, not to mention to look a lot more like the classic GameCube controller. Just my thought :)
To be clear, I mean these. Keep in mind they're not actually GameCube controllers and won't work with an actual GameCube. They plug in to a Wii remote. There's also ones made by PDP which are pretty much the same.
Just to add something to what the other user said, don't forget that the HORI Battle Pads and the PDP Fight Pads both work as classic controllers. They have to plug into a Wiimote to work as well, and /r/WiiU seems to prefer the HORI ones over the PDP ones just so you know.
As the two previous comments have pointed out, there are adapters (many brands). However, there does exists a Gamecube controller that has the wii remote connector. The Hori Battle Pad.

Edit: Also this. PDP Wired Fight Pad https://www.amazon.com/d/Wii-U-Game-Controllers/PDP-Wired-Fight-Pad-nintendo-u/B00LSBNSAO
They still sell game cube controllers. Hori makes a pro controller that looks like a GC controller. Unfortunately you need a wiimote to use.
https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Battle-Mario-Version-Turbo-u/dp/B00ND0E5ZU
You could get a HORI Battle Pad. I have one of my own, and I love it.
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Battle-Mario-Version-Turbo-u/dp/B00ND0E5ZU If this is what you are talking about, Does it function as a pro controller? or does it plug into a wii mote?
They act as classic controllers that plug into wiimotes.
Just a note, your charity links aren't all quite right. The first query string uses a question mark as a delimiter, but subsequent ones use ampersands. For instance:
>http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ND0E5ZU/?blah=blah&tag=ablegamers-20
It's a bit confusing, but if you've cleaned out all the other junk then you should just be able to use a question mark as a delimiter.
I've also reapproved this thread since your last edit. Reddit is still not liking it for some reason.
not with the official adapter, but there are a few alternatives.
Raphnet-tech (on eBay and own website) sells Gamecube controller to wii mode adapters, so you can use your Gamecube controller as a Wii Classic Controller.
I bought a cheap gamecube to usb adapter (not from raphnet-tech, and I regret that) for use on my computer, and it game with a gamecube to wii mote adapter, however I tried it last night and it was a horrible expierence. Phantom button presses, the home button was being pressed, minus (buttons that the gamecube controller doesn't have). But I don't know if that was because of the adapter or my old gamecube controller.
HORI makes gamecube controllers that plug into the wii mote to be used as wii classic controllers.
PDP does the same.
I don't have any expierence with PDP or HORI but there are enough opnions about them in the subreddit. I'm considering buying one soon, because I don't want to pay extra for the adapter from nintendo.
Try the HORI GameCube like Battle Pads.. they're Wii Accessories and alot popped up in the last year.

You're welcome.
It's not as solid feeling as an original controller, but the ergonomics are still there. I'll never play MK8 with anything else.
i know its not what you mentioned, but i suggest checking out a wiimote for on the go, and a classic controller for at home use. there are 3 types i recommend, each with their own uses. the original classic controller, great for side scrollers, or maybe a SNES/NES emulator. classic pro, with better button placement for more modern games. hori battle pad, good for 3d platformers and n64 emulators.
the wiimote itself has a dpad and 7 buttons. its fairly small, and there are many android apps that help you connect and format the input. lots of android emulators have built in wiimote support as well.
for your PC, download glovepie to allow you to format the buttons and sticks of both the wiimote and classic controller to any pc or mouse button (even mouse movement for camera controls). all you need is a bluetooth adapter.
although i have a 360 controller, i like to use my classic controller and wiimote for simpler 2d games. the classic controller has more buttons than any of the ones you mention, with a much more comfortable shape imo. i know wiimotes are a tad larger than the ones you are looking at, but i find them portable enough for my needs.
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Battle-Mario-Version-Turbo-u/dp/B00ND0E5ZU
But you need a wiimote for the controller to work.
The Hori Battle Pad may work, it plugs into the wiimote its self.. Provided you all have enough wiimotes to go around at least.
you can use this controller (http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Battle-Mario-Version-Turbo-u/dp/B00ND0E5ZU) with any game that supports the classic controller. it plugs into the bottom of a regular wiimote.
Yeah, no GC adaptor via USB for mario kart, but for about the same price...
Buy two refurb wiimotes from nintendo: https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/browse/productDetailColorSizePicker.jsp?productId=prod400003
And two of these: http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Battle-Mario-Version-Turbo-u/dp/B00ND0E5ZU
And you'd have a nice, wireless gamecube like setup
not particularly, tbh. Try a hori battle pad if you can get your hands on one
They're usually on amazon: http://www.amazon.ca/HORI-Battle-Turbo-Mario-Version/dp/B00ND0E5ZU
Maybe a Hori Battle Pad?
Got the exact same feel, only the R and L buttons are now "normal buttons" instead of the deep triggers GameCube has, I got myself this and I love it! http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Battle-Mario-Version-Turbo-u/dp/B00ND0E5ZU
I have the Mario and Luigi versions of the HORI battle pad controller, and they feel surprisingly similar to a gamecube controller, if a little light.
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Battle-Mario-Version-Turbo-u/dp/B00ND0E5ZU
Yo, if y'all are that thirsty for an Adapter just grab a HORI Battlepad for now. That way, you can just wait for more Adapters to be available, and you'll have your "Wavebird" when you just feel like chillin' on the couch to play.
Its really a solid controller. HORI is GDLK as usual.
HORI has been making peripherals for Nintendo consoles since the famicom (they had the first turbo controllers I believe). They're releasing a GC style controller soonish for ~25$ on Amazon.
There is a Hori version on amazon.com right now.
