i use a saitek P880. the dpad felt kinda weird at first but i like it now. its also nice because it has 6 face buttons.
i also recently heard about the Hori Commander 4, it looks pretty cool but it doesn't come out till next month. its cool cause usually controllers only have 2 triggers if there's 6 face buttons.
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8
I wouldn't recommend buying a stick if you've never used one before. It will take you a while to get truly comfortable with it. I would suggest either sticking it out on your controller, or invest in a Fight Pad
Do you think it will work with the Hori Fighting commander PS4? or the Xbox one version? https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8
I would love to know if it works and can play Ultra Street fighter 2 finally with a portable fight pad and not a big ugly fight stick.
I'm confused. Is that one not the same as the one that came before the Commander 4? This one? I've had this thing for years.
I haven't tried it myself, but the Hori Fighting Commander 4 has a more ergonomic grip. But I also hear issues about dpad due to it being adjustable.
Has anyone used a Hori Fighting Commander? I'm thinking about buying one. I'm also really into Tekken recently and dashing on a stick is fucking hard, so I'd be using it there too
https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8
the only problem I see with the hori fighting commander is that it only has two shoulder buttons. as far as I understand, these shoulder buttons act as a modifier for your front facing buttons. will it be an issue that I only have two modifier options?
I'd effectively have 6x3=18 buttons, whereas a standard pad I'd have 4x5=20 buttons
I have this controller from my fighting games:
https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8
Obviously you don't wanna get it now, but if you wait until amazon has more in stock it is only 40$ but it has a turbo function that you can engage on each button individually. One thing to note is that there is L3 and R3 but no sticks to change amount when buying heroes.
I have the PS4 FC4 coupled with a Brook converter. The FC4 allows changing the orientation degree of the D-pad which is awesome to enhance directional comfort. Will this Xbox FC version include the same feature? I see it is also missing the extended left palm rest which is also really comfortable.
"This pad is a pure performer with the industry's best D-Pad" - uh we'll see about that...
IMO this is the best fight pad to date; great build quality and useful features: https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation/dp/B00TKLFES8/ref=sr_1_4?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1486249887&sr=1-4&keywords=HORI+Fighting+Commander
It looks to be a different model, notice that it has symmetrical handles as opposed to the Hori Commander 4's banana handle thingie.
Any other differences you know of?
https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8 this might be your best bet. I'm a d-pad guy (grew up on PS1 fighting games. Gundam Battle Assault 2 for life). Anyway, this thing works like a charm and is really customizable.
So you use Joy2Key for that? You could use that Mayflash adapter so that you dont need sofware.
I use the Wii Classic (non pro version) and the only other controller I tried that I like (I bought like 5 or more, no joke) is the Hori Commander 4 (http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8).
This one is plug and play with no adapter (but you cant taunt unfortunately, unless BMG allows us to bind taunts to buttons). So I might switch to this one soon cuz it does feel more responsive than my Wii Classic (I think the adapter adds a bit of delay).
Edit: Also, it works on PS4 so once Brawlhalla hits PS4 and there are lan tourneys using the PS4, we ready son. lol
I use the HORI Fighting Commander 4. I hold it with one hand and use the buttons arcade style. It works well for combos but hurts my fingers after a while.
I bought a Hori Fighting Commander 4 ( http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00 )
is this the same you have or is this an older one? I should get it delivered tomorrow, would be great if it had an X-input switch but I can find nothing about it on the site.
As far as thumb blisters:
This is normal for most people, you will develop callouses, then it won't be an issue anymore. Some inputs literally require blistering speed; Walking 720's are notorious for this.
Wrist or thumb joint Pain shouldn't happen. If it is, then you are gripping the controller too tightly (wrist), or pressing down too hard (thumb-joint). If you still have problems, consider picking up the hori FC4 (http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8) - It lets you unlock the dpad and rotate it in place up to 20 degrees. With around 12 degrees of rotation it brings the vertical axis of the d-pad into perfect alignment with the handle and transforms into the most comfortable gamepad I have ever held. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't matter how hard you gripped it at that point, you shouldn't get any wrist pain.
A fair warning though: Getting used to Stick takes time and practice. They are quite expensive too (at least the good ones are).
So if you are going to get into fighting games on PC but don't want to deal with sticks you could get a fightpad which will have a better d-pad than any xbox controller ever had (as far as i can tell) for about the same price.
If you're interested you could always visit the sub of the game you want to try and ask there what people use and how well it works for the given game.
HORI Fighting Commander 4 Controller for PlayStation 4/3 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TKLFES8/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_pTE8wbQG5BKKZ
Something like that seems like it would be awesome.
The iBuffalo SNES controllers are pretty cheap and have a nice build quality.
You could also get some USB Sega Genesis controllers (as Genesis maps terribly to a snes layout).
no such thing as 0ms. dont get hung up on stick input lag. your display is much more evident. i play on stick, but would recommend this to someone in your position as a new player. http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455808822&sr=8-1&keywords=hori+fighting+commander+4 its a great pad, its button layout is great for sfv
apparently this is a revised version of the FC4 im wondering if anyone has bought one of these new ones, the one major complaint i hear from the fc4 is that no one likes the rotation feature but the new version looks like to have removed that completely but hows the controller itself?
Fightstick, fightpad or regular controller are largely a matter of preference. There's some top tier pros that play on the normal pad. Personally I can't stand having the hard attack on triggers so I would at least go for a fight pad with the 6 face buttons. I got the MKX pad to practice with during the beta and it helped a lot but it feels really cheap. By my understanding Hori makes a great http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8 Pretty good for $30. For my, it's Arcade stick all the way and I'll play plenty of Street Fighter to justify the cost.
I have the Hori Fighting Commander 4 and I can not get it to recognize on my pc running windows 10. Any ideas?
Another option could be the Hori Fighting Commander. I have heard good things about it and it might be an alternative.
In my opinion this pad might now be a bad investment from what I've read: http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8
I use a program called Scarlet Crush Production to use my PS3 controller as a 360 controller if you will. However, you can find drivers for a PS4 controller as well using the same program mentioned above. A simple google/youtube search will get you going.
While the Ps4 controller's cross pad is garbage for this, the HORI Fighting commander 4 is a much better alternative with a very smooth cross pad.
I've been playing with a joystick for years and find the joypad to be much more responsive. It requires very small movements of the thumb to perform moves vs the wide and large motions needed to do the same on a joystick.
Buy this and you'll never want for a better brawlhalla control setup. Next patch has fixes for it, but it still works well currently.
The dpad is phenomenal. Other people seem to have answered your arcade stick question so I'll just dump this here.
To anyone here who knows anything about building PS4 arcade sticks, I'm looking into building one. I hear taking apart a PS4 controller for the parts might be necessary. Is there a wired controller (3rd party or otherwise) that's known to be easy to take apart? So far, this looks like the most appropriate.
100s of controller that work on pc, don't need a ps4/xbone controller. Search "fightpad pc" (try xbox too) and lots pop up
I have this one for ps4, great pad. Think it should work on PC native too. http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1450829211&sr=8-1&keywords=fight+pad
What type of fightpad do you suggest is better to get? The standard one or the one with the weird grip like this?
And do you know of some more specialized sites other than amazon/ebay where I could go and get them?
/vomit
There are a hanful of pads advised and they are for a reason. If you want to change your pad every odd week pick what you want. If you want to save money on the long term invest a bit more.
This pad has been given a lot of praise from players: http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8/ref=sr_1_cc_2?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1442825976&sr=1-2-catcorr&keywords=hori+pad+PS4
Does anyone have any recommendations for a fighting pad? There's not a lot of reason for me to purchase a stick now that pianoing and plinking are out for SFV, so I'm looking for a high quality, sturdy pad.
I'm currently looking at the Hori Fighting Commander 4. Does anyone have any experience with this?
If you think you'll ever play with ps4-owning friends using a controller and not a stick or pad, I would get the dualshock 4 just to be familiar with it? And as a second choice, you could also consider getting a Hori FC4. Six buttons on the face, so it plays more like a stick would, can also play on a ps3, and at the moment it's cheaper than most other options. :)
(in case it's not clear, this will work on a PC just fine!)
Does anyone know any good fightpads that are like the hori fighting commander 4 but pc compatible?
Price is an issue somewhat (which is why I'm not going for a stick). Right now i'm on a keyboard so anything is an improvement. I just need to be able to plink on whatever i get which is why I'm looking at fightpads set up like the one above.
I would grab a Hori Fighting Commander 4. It has a D-pad with adjustable sensitivity (may make z-moves/quarter circles easier for you), six buttons on the front instead of four (very good for street fighter), and is wired so you don't have to worry about batteries or whatever. Also it's ps3/ps4 compatible in addition to pc, so if you start playing SFV when it comes out you'll be able to use it on any system. Also it's cheaper than an xbone pad. :)
Let me know if you have any questions about the pad! I just gutted mine to dual mod my fight stick, but I enjoyed using it until then.
You could mod this into your stick for ps4 support. It's wired so you won't get an 8 minute timeout, and it has a ps3 toggle as well, so you'll be able to play on pretty much anything with your stick, if you dual-mod.
I'm getting ready to do the same thing with my stick, but probably not super soon. If you do it, take lots of pictures while you're putting it together!
People love using Saturn controllers for fighters. That USB version looks pretty cheap, so I think it's a good start.
If you want to go to tournaments and events, you'll need something that works on PS3/PS4. You might be able to get away with some sort of adapter, or you can buy a native pad like the Hori Fighting Commander 4. However, I think you should spend some time with the game before you spend more than $20 or $30 on a controller.
Hori makes a game pad for fighting games. It will be released April 30th http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8/ref=sr_1_6?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1425322455&sr=1-6&keywords=hori+ps4+controller
Okay. Here we go. This gets asked all the time and I usually just shitpost and say "no", but I am going to give you a meaningful answer.
The answer to your question is "no". No no no no no. The GameCube controller's layout is atrocious for fighting games. Certain button sequences and combinations are impractical, if not impossible, on a GameCube controller. You really need to be able to press multiple buttons simultaneously, such as two punches, two kicks, or a punch plus a kick. The GameCube controller's face buttons are not suited to this task at all, and you do not have enough shoulder buttons for the necessary macros.
If you're asking this question, I think it's safe to assume that you play Smash. You probably think that since you're already used to the GameCube controller, transitioning to another game with it shouldn't be that difficult. The issue with that idea is that Smash was specifically designed for that controller.
Fighting games are a totally different beast. They're ideally meant to be played with a joystick and six buttons, like what you'd see on an arcade cabinet or fightstick. Playing on pads is feasible because most of them have a "normal" layout where the buttons are in a cross or grid formation, as well as quality shoulder buttons for macros. You can use the four face buttons plus the two right shoulder buttons for your light/medium/heavy attacks. The two left shoulder buttons are for macros. How would you set this up ergonomically on a GameCube controller? You just can't, plain and simple.
In conclusion, get something else. I wouldn't recommend starting with a fightstick because they're a big investment. PlayStation controllers are considered pretty good for fighting games. Xbox 360 pads aren't recommended because the D-pad is terrible, although you could use the analog stick. I know some people like Genesis-style controllers, and you can find cheap USB knock-offs on Amazon. If you're willing to spend money on a quality pad, look no further than the Fighting Commander 4.
For anyone looking for a ps4 pad to play with or use for dual modding, the Hori FC4 is down to 35 bucks on amazon: Link.
I guess that even though the post was getting upvotes, as it is a thing one needs to play Street Fighter games at a price that people would surely like to know about, the mods determined it be relegated to the daily thread where it may fall through the cracks for some readers. Ah well. Hopefully anyone interested in a useful deal will happen to see this in the next eleven hours.
Hope the mods will consider allowing people to post peripheral deals in the future, as I don't think they come by often enough to clog the main feed. Just my opinion, of course.
These are two I have in my drawer from a few years ago. Would they work?
https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8
Not modded, officially licensed, fantastic controller.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TKLFES8
Also had a PSP for a while, more in previous comments.
Have you looked at the Hori fighting commander? you could pick one up pretty cheap.
(new player)
I play SFV on PC with a dualshock 3. I like the controller but the D-pad hurts my thumb so I use my t-shirt to do my movements more smoothly.
I wanted to know if there's an accessory like this kind of D-pad that I can add above my PS3 or PS4 controller.
Otherwise, do you recommand this model ?
My priority is to get a smooth d-pad, precise of course, but not something that burns my thumb like the dualshock 3.
Thank you.
I used this one for awhile but I don't like it too much -

This is the one I'm using currently -
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HT2TTBC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Years ago I used to just use a PS1/PS2 pad with a converter.
Honestly I haven't really found a pad I like all that much. Sega Saturn controller or something like that would probably be the best but yeah.
I have never used a fighting stick before. I am going to buy a fight pad instead. I am looking to play UMvC3 on PC (and maybe PS4). My xbox one controller does not work anymore. The RB button is broken. I used my xbox one controller for MKX, the D-pad seemed okay.
OR
From what I have read the Fighting Commander 4's d-pad is more reliable. I have read that some of the Fighting Commander's d-pad break pretty easy. Would it be better to spend the $65 over the $40?
I recommend this for fighting games, I use it myself on PC
https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8
Something like this PS3/4 controller should work for you.
HORI Fighting Commander 4 Controller for PlayStation 4/3 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TKLFES8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_4i9BxbW1P79Q5
any feedback/reviews on the hori controller pad 4, they actually on sale right now on amazon ($30 instead of 45), i may take one as a spare controller
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8
It is not skinned with any MKX art. It is just like this, http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8
Look in to getting a fight pad, they're cheaper and better designed for fighting games. My buddy really likes the Fight Commander 4
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8
http://www.play-asia.com/fighting-commander-for-playstation-4-playstation-3/13/709efx
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8
look into these, they are really good. stay away from the mad catz SFV pad. its absolutely awful for fighting games.
You can also get fight pads which are in the $30-60 range with this being probably the most popular one. That said it really comes down to what you like using and what you adjust to. As people have pointed out there are high level players who don't use a stick and you want to watch a fun video that shows a great player using a 360 controller check out SMUG in this video of Excellent Adventures of Gootecks and Mike Ross
If you are getting it for the PS4 then I find the PS4 Hori Pad is pretty nice.
Ahh. Good to know. This is the one that works natively on PC yes? http://www.amazon.ca/Fighting-Commander-PlayStation-Controller-Officially/dp/B00TKLFES8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455564011&sr=8-1&keywords=fight+commander+4
Get the 2nd link. I think the other one is an older model. The newer model can rotate the d-pad to a different angle if you wish.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TKLFES8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_0.JVwbV6P3AD8
Well lets say amazon gives you $10 to put a link on your twitter. That link is going to have some code in it that lets amazon know it came from your twitter. That way they can make sure they got their $10 worth.
Or alternatively, lets say sanford is sponsored by the steam co. and whores them out all the time with code #sanford or #steamford or whatever. You get a discount for using the code and sanford gets a kickback of X% from the sale.
What I'm saying is, your link is this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TKLFES8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_YHxUwb0DA8WTR
just make it this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TKLFES8
and post again. that's all.
Think of the stick issue as one of precision. Most 2D fighting games, if not all, use 8 directions. Giving yourself fully circular options just gives you a greater chance of messing up an input because of the oversensitivity of the circular stick. There's a reason fight sticks have gates and fightpads have D-Pads, it's to keep you from doing inputs you don't want to do. No gates means no control, so your hadokens might feel fluid, but good luck doing a reliable shoryuken, diagonal jump, or down side block.
Now like, in average play against CPUs or casual friends, that might not matter, but missed inputs when you want to get better are bad habits at best and big mistakes at worst. Any opportunity to let the enemy in is a bad one.
Anyways, as far as controllers go, you have a few cheaper options. One is to go with the HORI Fighting Commander 4. I haven't used it personally, but any time fightpads come up, I see it recommended. Cheap price, solid build, has all the buttons you need and is wired.
Or, you could go for a Venom / Mayflash V2. [EDIT: Well, shoot. The Mayflash V2 is sold out at the ~59 price point. Probably better off with another stick off Amazon, since you can get a few that are quite better at ~80, now.] Both are probably the only time I've seen a cheap, midtier fightstick that seems worth getting, and I absolutely love my V2. Biggest downsides is the Venom is always sold out, and the V2 isn't directly PS4 compatible (and is close to being sold out, no less!)
If you play on PC or PS3/360, get a V2 and mod it down the line with better parts. Or, hold out for a Venom or get a Fighting Commander, or save up for a high tier stick.
You could try a fightpad like this one. Just a note, if you're going to use pretty much anything that isn't an Xbox 360/Xbone controller/stick you'll need to use a little utility called x360ce since SFV only supports xinput for god knows what reasons. You set it up and it makes a DLL that you drop into your /StreetFighterV/StreetFighterV/Binaries/Win64 folder so it doesn't need to run in the background which is something.
I was looking at the Hori FC4 which looks pretty nice.
I'd recommend getting a fight pad like this one It works great for MKX, SkullGirls, Street Fighter, etc. It's even PS3/PS4/PC compatible.
I think this controller: http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1436622434&sr=8-1&keywords=hori+fc4 works for both PS3 and 4
Link for the lazy: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TKLFES8/
(Is this against sub rules?)
I think this is the best one, they aren't expensive in general. http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8
Standard, but I want to switch to this
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8
I used the 3 on PS3 and love it.
You can use a 360 controller but the DPAD offers way more control. It's not less than $20 but I highly recommend http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation-4/dp/B00TKLFES8 for the PC.
This one is supposed to be one of the best. From what I can tell it is a more high quality version of the official one, which I have and I must say it makes doing combos a lot easier. The oversized buttons are low and sensitive so it is much easier to pull of combos.
It does however feel cheap in your hands and the paint on the square button was completely gone on day two, but those things haven't stopped it from being a big help.
Xbox pads are garbage, don't waste money on them.
