I bought a hori fightstick mini before upgrading to my Madcatz TE2+
If you wanna try out a stick, I'd recommend it. But it might leave you wanting more.
Also, the stick is small so I used textbook under it so it would sit nicely on my lap and not move around. Here is a link. Cheers!

> and I don't want to get a stick (because if I go to someone's house, they prob don't have a stick)
> "Methinks"
Dude... legit asking, are you above the age of 12? Do you understand how fightsticks work?
Also you're not gonna get a good answer for what Juri "needs" because not only a lot of players are thorn about this new iteration of her, Capcom seems to secretly hate her when it comes to balance. So no amount of advice of suggestions even from players like Infiltration will amount to much of anything being done to her current state.
Just buy this fightstick for starters (it's portable you dense brat) and keep playing Guile. If you're not interested in EITHER of those, then i suggest you get USF4 and play Juri in that iteration since she was a strong "zoner" type of character with no power-up/charge system, much like you describe.
Edit: I think i read something wrong but it's somehow even more stupid, so if what you meant was:
"its unfair that my friend has no fightstick"
-No it isn't, if they're willing to fight you then they're gonna use a character that doesn't make them struggle if they use the PS4 D-Pad, and this cements my theory that you must be very young because what mature person would call bullshit on that you have a stick and they don't?, they'd just buy one if they're that concerned & into fighting games.
To be honest you aren't gonna find a quality stick for only 40 bucks unless you look really hard for a used one on ebay or something. The only one i know that even fits that price range are the Hori Fighting Stick Mini i'm not a fan of it personally. It's small and feels very cheap, but it will do the job.
Honestly if you are serious about learning stick, i would highly recommend considering dropping some more money on a quality one. If not a normal controller will work just fine with this game.
If you'd like to try a stick but don't want to blow a lot of money on one, HORI sells this mini one for much cheaper: https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Stick-Mini-PlayStation-4/dp/B014KXMEW4/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8 The reviews are mostly positive. Good luck on finding something that works for you! <3
Don't have this one because I heard a lot of negitive things about it but got this one instead. I have had it for about two months and no problems so far. I do enjoy having the 8 buttons instead of 6 but that is just me.
So I've recently bought SFV. I haven't honestly played a Fighting game such as SFV in a long time, about a decade actually.
I was looking to get a stick for it, but since I'm still a student (College is living money hell), I want to get a budget one.
This one in particular has been interesting me
I don't want to go above $50 and this one will serve as practice and a bridge to upgrading to a more quality one in the future. I just want something to practice with.
I hate the feel of my Xbox360 controller with SFV. Dashing and doing just combos in general is really hard for me. My thumb slip off the directional stick many times while I'm playing trying to execute combos on even training dummies.
What would you guys recommend for me? Any other budget friendly sticks?
$40 is a little low for a good fight stick but not impossible.
It is great if you've never had one and want to get into it.
I then upgraded to this:
This was free with SFV so I kinda got it to replace the old one.
My current stick is this:
Probably the best stick I have ever tried. Just works flawlessly and I only recommend investing if you're 100% comfortable with it.
(I'm from the UK so prices may vary but all links are for US Amazon)
before switching to my TES+, i used to have the Hori mini 4. A good stick for the price imo (its 10 $ cheaper than the madcatz stick).
Before I bought the Hori RAP I grabbed the Hori Mini on sale. I beat the hell out of it for 6 months, and it still works fine a since the 2016 purchase (friends have to use the it). The drone is clearly the better choice, especially since it looks like right now the Drone is cheap on Amazon. The disdain piled on the Mini is a bit excessive in my view, it gets the job done and is fairly durable.
Assuming you play on PS4:
Hori Fighting Stick Mini 4 (about $50) https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Stick-Mini-PlayStation-4/dp/B014KXMEW4
Hori Fighting Commander (about $45) https://www.amazon.com/Fighting-Commander-PlayStation-Officially-Licensed-4/dp/B01GVOFIAA
Mayflash F300 (about $55) https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-F300-Arcade-Joystick-Switch/dp/B019MFPLC0

If you play on PC, all of the above works, along with:
Retro-Bit Sega Genesis USB Controller (about $20) https://www.amazon.com/Retro-Bit-Official-Controller-8-Button-Raspberry/dp/B07P37ZGTF
8bitdo M30 2.4G (about $25) https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-Wireless-Gamepad-Original-Genesis-Drive/dp/B07HB1XFQW
8bitdo M30 Bluetooth (about $30) https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-Bluetooth-Gamepad-Nintendo-Android-Genesis/dp/B07MSN1NPC
Qanba Carbon (about $60) https://www.amazon.com/Qanba-Joy-Stick-Carbon-PS3-PC/dp/B01HSQE7IY
Honestly it sounds like you want a mini fighting stick like https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Stick-Mini-PlayStation-4/dp/B014KXMEW4
What do you mean about the flat button layout?
Any opinions on HORI fighting stick mini 4? Good, bad, shit?

Fuck yeah, I can finally play this game. And I have a fighting stick so I can play it with arcade controls.
Hori mini. $60 Canadian at Toys R Us. Not sure what the US price would be or where you could find one in stores.

Oh I forgot about this particular stick. It's a decent entry level stick for just $40

You can try https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Stick-Mini-PlayStation-4/dp/B014KXMEW4
Its cheap, not so bad and good for beginner:)
I heard the Hori Mini is a pretty good stick for it's low price. It's roughly 40 USD on Amazon.
1) Fight sticks. you do not need a fight stick to play street fighter nor do you need one to be good players like SonicFox and Luffy play on playstation controllers, theres no inherent advantage besides a few input techniques and in some cases a stick can give the game a rewarding feel or the game to "click in your head" Maxalillion goes into this quite in depth i recommend you watch his video on the mater to further your opinion on the matter.
I've been recomending Fightsticks for alot for people on reddit when these threads come up and with friends in person and i have to say due to feed back though you may not want to spend upwards $200-$300 on a stick but sticks in this range particularly the Hori mini4 and Mad catz alpha though built well for beginners will be uncomfortabel to use or leave you longing for more. i would only recommend those sticks if you want you kids to play with you and not on your big daddy stick or you are deathly on the edge or very skeptikal on buying a stick. if you are trying to be a little serious and maybe want to attend arcades it is better to get a higher end stick as they last longer, preform a little better and will be a bit comfortable to use. i personally recommend the Hori Rap4 Kai as it is very high quality and the cheapest one the mad catz TES+( is just as good but more expensive (its the same price right now thats a steal!) And the best of both worlds is the sony venom around 86 us with the conversion and bought on the amazon.uk site very good stick and is easy to mod when you are ready. these sticks are worth the cash if you are serious. Think this through as geting an arcade stick will slightly complicate the learning process of learning a new fighting game especially coming from a game quite different like smash brothers. i personally recommend going to your locals area and see if they have a SFV scene and ask some of the guys there to let you try out their stick or teach you some stuff heres a video on what you will actually be probably using a stick
2)Since you tell me you have come from smash you know fighting games. and you know they are hard to learn and hard to "git gud" so dont be afraid to lose, the best winners are the ones who learn from their loses. the first hurdle is understanding the game you are playing then the technical parts should slowly be introduced.
This is a good start
Vesper arcade (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql2OZoRrfos&list=PLIhWuF_5aE1_xHpDsJD1U2OgU4ZuAZrxp)
Gootecks has a very good series aswell i recomend you watch this second (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AomsfS_8cT8&list=PL13KoUNKKsK2HQ_nWMR9wUqtwrA8k317I)
As for picking your main for a character you want to play. find someone who is fun and who you like regardless of strength. The Capcom character guides are a good place to see what a characters capable of and a little bit about their strengths and weaknesses for a better under standing (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLs4LjNCY15zMKfPmf5M5_Ow9en17ur3BR) a youtuber under the name TrueUnderDogGaming has a similar line of videos (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHXrezoc98F7jiQIPgeA9655yxUhRPI4x)
you said you like rashid SF has some insightful videos though they are for the micro complexities for the game they are short and helpful to understanding the game, did i mention he loves rashid hes also not a super duper good player so you will have an easy time relating and understanding him (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3f9nd40434_EJ-CkvC9pmzD6s0exYuaD)
on the sub reddit we also have pages dedicated to characters i recommend you check them out (https://www.reddit.com/r/StreetFighter/wiki/index)
like i said play who you want, but at the early stages there are soe chaaracters that are difficult to use, will impeed progress with complicated mechanics and play styles and worst case senario bad habits. if i were you i would consider giving THIS a glance before you make any final decisions
Another good resource to learn the game and im surprised it isnt praised and recommended to beginners is the street fighter V Collectors edition Guide book. it explains street fighter on a very basic level of understanding, explains some very general and important fighting game topics and lingo such as footsies and meaties. it also provides you with Frame data something very important later on in learning street fighter. i 10/10 recommend wish i had something like this when i started 2 years ago you can buy it at amazon.com
And the last place for help is our own sub reddit! you have any questions please come here everyone will help you out!
All the lingo, terminology and explanations so you can talk the talk on the reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/stReetfighter/wiki/iv/glossary
Come on down to Geifs Gym! a sub reddit guide to everything street fighter from basic to technical to mental is converd at geifs gym and is regularly updated. we also host noobie lobbies to test your skills and improve!
Come on down to GEIFS GYM https://www.reddit.com/r/stReetfighter/wiki/v/giefsgym
we also have a beginners guide here too https://www.reddit.com/r/stReetfighter/wiki/v/new_player_guide
just like smash (i did try learning smash) one of the first few things to do is get used to your stick and movement so just play the story and all the single player content we have "so far" and have fun! and welcome to the community. Fight well,Fight hard, Never give up and remember to... #RISE UP
Does anyone know how to get my fight stick to work on pc? I bought this one and the reviews say it should work on pc.
Just came across these 2.
Compared to the commander 4 is that mini hori fighting stick good? reviews don't seem so bad..Or should i save up for the mad cat's stick?
Any idea on the quality of this stick? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014KXMEW4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00
Well, I’ll say first that as a fighting game SF V is pretty boring. There’s many more interesting games out there.
But anyway, Street Fighter V arcade edition comes out soon and that will include the base game along with all DLC characters as well as the updated modes for pretty cheap. I’d wait for that edition.
As far as a controller goes, if you’re looking for cheap, I’d look at the HORI Mini it’s a good enough place to start if you’re looking for a fighting game stick.
Not sure if it is good but you could try the Hori Fighting Stick Mini 4 its only 40 dollars so if it sucks no real harm.
https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Stick-Mini-PlayStation-4/dp/B014KXMEW4
IMO get a cheap starter stick to see if you enjoy the feeling, it's definitely hard to get used to when you've used controllers your entire life.
You can find those on sale for $40 often.
