Fuck that shit. If they're red wasps, kill the bastards. They're not at all uncommon. You don't want them near your house.
You don't need an exterminator. Make a note of where they go into the house. Get some good old serious non-ecological chemical "Wasp and Hornet" spray. Wait till after dark and they'll probably be quiet. Soak the areas they will walk across when going into their holes. The spray leaves a residual poison that will kill them later.
If you can't find the nest, it may take several tries. You can either spray the holes, or directly spray the wasps when they're crawling on the surface in the daytime. The spray wets their wings and knocks them down immediately without them being able to fly. Leave them or squish them when they're down.
If you can actually find the nest, wait till dark and use special wasp spray that shoots a long stream. Practice with it in an open area. You can usually shoot the next and knock them down directly, then run.
Something like this.
If you wait till dark, they might not even attack when you spray their nest, but be prepared to run anyway. Plot your escape path. I think they're docile after dark, but am not 100% sure.
As for the environmental damage of the pesticide, use it outdoors, use it on a limited area, just the nest or the holes they crawl into. DO NOT use as a desert topping. READ THE FLICKING INSTRUCTIONS!!!
It might kill a few bugs, but the damn wasps are going to kill more bugs than the spray does.
BTW, I'm NOT for the reckless use of pesticides. Read the instructions, and limit your use, consider the risks. In the case of the wasp spray, you're only spreading a little pesticide in limited places.
