Don't chase and throw better than the opponent. That's it. Look at the examples you gave. You mentioned that your team missed what you were throwing at and the opponents did not. Of course you're going to lose when that happens.
Let's say your team threw at bulls and didn't miss. Would it all of a sudden be a good "strategy" and your teammate would be a genius? Or would it mean you hit what you were aiming at and that helped you win.
Personally I don't think there's hardly any strategy when it comes to playing cricket. Sure, you can play the game differently than others but in the end the only thing that matters is hitting what you throw at. I could start the game throwing at 15's which we could all 100% agree is idiotic but if I then go on to average 5mpr (steel tip) with the start I'm going to win 99% of my games.
Anyway, here's a book with everything you need to know about cricket. Written by the mod here u/7segmentspecialist

I'll second the good cricket app.
The author of this book did an ama on this sub a little while back How to Master the Game of Cricket https://www.amazon.com/dp/1983046752/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_FuMnDb9EE48TH
Even for someone who's been playing forever there's some good stuff and it's probably a great starting place / rough draft as far how to program the bot to play with a solid strategy.
