I got these to replace the gumstick battery in my MZ-E7W.

I also got a Nitecore D2 charger to charge them, as I'm not sure my unit was able to charge these properly.
Looks like this uses "gumstick" batteries. You can get them easily on amazon or ebay.
example: HQRP branded batteries
Then get a universal charger like the Nitecore Digicharger D2 Universal Smart and you should be all set. I hope the belt is still fine though, modern aiwas tend to be difficult to disassemble.

You should get at least 2 since quality control on these isn't the best. However, they do work, and can be charged in any universal battery charger than can accept C/D cells.
Sony again with their proprietary stuff.
The simplest solution would be to use the external battery holder, but i suppose that is lost to time.
The good news is, those gumsticks are available on Amazon or Ebay, but they are replacments not made by Sony. The bad news however, you'll need a charger. Are you from NA? If so, you might be interested in this one
If that's the case, you guys must be getting players for cheap.

Working player: $100 or so on eBay, and quick to rise.
Busted player: $80 or so on eBay. Bid wars often inflate the price to near-mint equivalent prices.

There are modern gumstick batteries that are cheap, work well and readily available. https://www.amazon.com/HQRP-Battery-1-528-231-11-WM-RX707-WM-FX675/dp/B01LNZMYN6/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=gum+stick+batteries&qid=1615901946&sr=8-1
Maybe they weren't for a while, but I really don't know why people keep saying they're hard to find
Yeah, I know the Wiz (I'm from the tri-state area). And I know Crazy Eddie, that's where my first CD player came from back in '87.
Pre-recorded only discs is a thing. Generally means the laser can't focus. I know that some Sony mechanisms (both MD and CD) that have plastic springs supporting the laser instead of metal tend to have this issue. I have an Onkyo home deck (Sony mechanism) that only plays on its side -a classic symptom.
My R37 screen flickers/fades from time to time. If I press a little on the side of the casing to the left of the screen or just move the hold switch, it comes back fine. That unit doesn't get too much use; I baby it and just admire it.
Wouldn't getting a new gumstick for the 702 be easier? Non-sony units/accessories don't seem all that easy/common to find or are they?
You can get new gumsticks on amazon.
