I own two of these, they sell vesa adapters on Amazon for like 35$ I think. Worth every penny for the monitors and for the Vesa mounts. I really like my current set up and I would buy another one if my current stand was able to support another monitor but I'm not looking to make that leap just yet.
VESA Mount Adapter Bracket for Acer Monitors (V4) - by HumanCentric https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01771Q5X0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_m66bxbDK1BAEX
That monitor is not VESA compatible on its own so you need an adapter such as this one. Do you have the original stand? It looks like there is a cylindrical piece from the original stand that is needed.
Then you can get a monitor arm and hang it anyway you choose.
This is exactly what /u/BmanUltima was talking about:

Just a word of warning... This monitor was never intended to be vesa mounted. The monitor itself is very flimsy and once you mount it, it will become far more noticeable.
I have this monitor and it does not have a vesa mount.
I have been told that using an adapter works really well, but I still have mine on its original stand so I am not sure how sturdy they get with the adapter

Yep, that guy was on amazon. I saw these (the v4 one) supposedly fit it. Seems more viable than just jb weld on the back lol. Supposedly needs a few extra screws though. It looks like it goes where the stand normally is.
VESA-mounting is awesome. The amount of space freed up on my desk by not having a big, clunky stand underneath my monitor is a great improvement.
There's a cheap solution where you can reuse your current monitor. Get an adapter like this one (link), and then you can mount it to any VESA stand you want. Might not look as pretty as a native solution, but definitely cheaper than buying a new monitor. Just make sure you get the one for your specific model of monitor (model number will look like G257HU or similar; check the sticker on the back of your monitor).
Seemingly there are some vesa mount adapter's you can get on amazon for around 30$ for this monitor. But I also remembered 27" is too big for a 1080p monitor isn't it?
You can search the reviews by keyword for the specific model to see which adapter you'd need!
The QNIX QX2710 and Acer XF270HU will work with that mount. Unfortunately, the Acer XG270HU does not have a vesa mount, but you could use this to give it one.
You'll need a VESA adapter. VESA is the standard mounting system for monitor stands, but Acer uses a nonstandard one in this monitor for some reason. Here's an adapter for $30. There also seem to be some cheaper ones and even a few DIY ideas on YouTube.
Looks like you can use this to make it vesa compatible:
But then you're looking at a $90 monitor and the deal doesn't seem as nice...
I've got a triple monitor setup at the moment with three Acer H236HLbid monitors:
Not sure if you're going for high refresh rate, IPS, or other things, but I was looking for a while for relatively cheap monitor with the above specs and this is what I found. It has relatively slim bezels, and I think the only monitor I've seen with slimmer bezels is some of the Dell UltraSharps such as this one.
One qualm with this Acer is it doesn't have VESA mounting holes, however there are relatively cheap adapters, and altogether the monitor and adapters should be less than your allotted $200-300 a piece:
What you're looking for is this:

For the mount itself look at Amazon Basics. They're a solid value. If you want something fancy check out Freedom Arm.
Your options for mounts are a bit tricky as that Acer monitor doesn't have VESA mounting holes. You can get brackets that'll do the trick, but it's spending money on an ancient part.

Assuming your 27"er has VESA holes (though you 110% should check before spending any money), it's time to look at arms. Pop over to Amazon and search for gas lift monitor arm. They're all the same for the most part, so get whatever's cheapest that suits your needs.
Two of these would do well:
Alternatively, one like this:
After that you can position and rotate your screens however you'd like.
I own two of them and love them. And you can also use something like this to mount them. Though, I never used it before, so I don't know how good it is.
No, but you can use something like this for it.
You could use something like this though.
It says you could use a VESA mount with this. Not 100% the same as a regular VESA, but gets the job done.
Story
This is my first PC build and first battlestation. I use it for light gaming (overwatch, cs:go, rocket league), and schoolwork. The Portrait-Landscape monitors are mostly for coding/document editing/reading. For school (Mechanical engineering) I have do to a lot of work in matlab, and having the portrait monitor is a huge help. I usually have a lab guide or assignment up on the portrait monitor, and matlab and the written lab report in split screen on the landscape (picture XX). I know the specs aren't fantastic, but for the ~$500 budget I set (computer only), it performs spectacularly.

The laptop is an early 2011 MBP, upgraded to 8 gigs of ram and an SSD. Ive got Ubuntu 16.04 booted onto it.

VIVO also sells a similar product for $25 on Amazon.
I bought two of these adapters and I hate how it doesn't line up with my LG. (Warning, potato-quality!) I've refrained from adding a VESA plate myself for several reasons:
The adapters suck and do not lock the monitors in place. If you rotate the stand or if it leans too far forward they will fall right off. I'm debating whether or not to throw caution to the wind and do it anyways once I have the time.
does the stand you speak of (perhaps this one?) allow for rotation?
Also this is the one I have not like the other one linked..I think that one looks ugly https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01771Q5X0/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_lZkMxbW1RRBR4
I found some 'Vesa adaptors' for this monitor on amazon but I have no clue on how reliable they are and it apparently blocks the display port.
