Still available on Amazon for $50!

The best option I can see right now is the Razer Barracuda X which is available for $65 from The Source, but it is out of stock online and you'd have to check to see if the store locations near you have it. It has quite great battery life and a good mic as well (and even without the mic, it is quite good for the money, since you don't need the mic anyway). There's a pretty comprehensive review for it here.

If it isn't necessary to get a good mic, this could work. Review for it here.

For a bit more, this could be a decent option as well and would probably have better build quality. Review for it here.

If you are willing to go above the $100 price point, there are plenty of options just over $100 that are quite good, but below that price, these seem to be the best bang for the buck.

Your friend's son is 11, so he may very easily end up breaking the headphones by breaking the charging port, so a cable of this kind could be a good addition to your purchase. I don't have any specific brand suggestions, but I do suggest you pick a brand that is likely to stay in business for potential future purchases.

FWIW also consider going with it's wireless sister the Cloud Core. It's $30 off the $100 sticker, so not as much as $50, but decent if you hate wires.
