Thanks. Do you think something like this would do a similar job as I'm based in Europe so not familiar with that store: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sierra-Tools-JB5684-Operated-Transfer/dp/B00318D7K8/ref=sr\_1\_3?crid=13TNYNC93X5MK&dchild=1&keywords=liquid+transfer+pump&qid=1627748793&sprefix=liquid+transfer%2Caps%2C181&sr=8-3
A bit cheaper but probably the same thing. These things have been my saving grace since I got into DWC. You could buy two for when the first inevitably fails when you're changing tubs lol.
To be honest they are boring as shit I'm use to watering every two days and picking up pots to see if they're dry..I had em 3 weeks and only had to fill em two times..the roots hit the bottom in two of them yesterday so I hear this is when they go wild..and I'm ready ..I mix nutrients and use my siphoning stick to feed Ideaworks JB4840 Sierra Tools JB5684 Battery Operated Liquid Transfer Pump, Single, red, Blue, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00318D7K8/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_2E5JTB3PPH2TH6ZAQD63..check em before lights come on and every time they have grown noticably..haven't harvested anything yet but I know it'll pull more than I was getting before so it'll pay for itself with every extra oz I get
It fits in the fill hole and i just empty into a bucket. Also, you can use it to circulate the reservoir by pumping into an adjacent hole at an angle.
They say not to run a stone. If you really want to, they say no more than 15 min per hour, because the air ends up messing with ph. I found that a transfer pump works great for adding and removing from the reservoir. Also, you can use it to circulate the res when you need to adjust ph. I stick the bigger end in the big hole and the tube end goes in the smaller hole, directing the water around the bottom of the wick and pot. That way I can add some ph down, mix all the water, and get a more accurate reading. I use this one: Ideaworks JB5684 JB4840 Battery Operated Liquid Transfer Pump, red, blue, black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00318D7K8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_YYBP75SNY71CTY1AFFPA I bet that if you emptied and refilled your res with 1/2 strength nutes and some hydroguard, you’ll be good to go. Also, I found that ph’ing a little lower than Octopot suggested helped with the severity of swing. 6.0-6.3 to start gave me good results. If you’re in sunshine#4, it should work well. Also, think about adding a touch of Calmag if you have it. I don’t add every time, especially if I’m just topping off the res to keep it at the lowest line, but it helped once I realized my substrate was inert and I hadn’t buffered. It took a little while to change how I thought about feeding. Remember, the nutes you add don’t ever run off, so as the plant takes what it wants, it leaves anything remaining in the reservoir. It takes a second to get the hang of, but once you see the way the plant reacts, you should get a feel for what the plant can take. (I had burned tips on my first run from getting overzealous).
I got one of these and it has been awesome for changing the water for DWC. All I have to do is offset the lid by an inch or so and pump the old water into another bucket, then pump the new water back in. It is also handy for topping the water off for the plants in the back of the tent without disturbing anything.
Each res holds about 20L (5 gal), and I do a full change with fresh nutrients once a week - topping up with only pH adjusted water if the res drops below 10L before the next full change. I use 3/4" tubing as a syphon to empty each Res into a bucket on the floor, and to fill them back up I use one of these
Liquid transfer pump $15-$30.
I prefer plastic pots since they don't leak out the sides. I sit them in aluminum roasting pans, five gallon pots fit best in large roasting pans.
Bro I got u
This is what you need. Let's you suck nutes straight from the bottom of your res with no hassle
I've been using a portable battery powered pump. It broke after about 6 or 7 fairly heavy uses. It's convenience made me buy another but if it breaks soon I will return them.
I agree with changing out the water every week. Unless you are checking PPM or TDS its the only way to reset the mix. I do not think the little that remains in the bottom is worth worrying about.
I do not use a recirculating pump as it adds to the temp of the res and I have enough problems with heat as it is. To compensate for the reduced level of O2 in the warmer water i have a lot of air pumping, two air pumps, into two big and heavy air stones. I read somewhere that can help. I haven't used this method enough to know if it works well, but it does work and took me to harvest day.
