I'd suggest you start with this short read by a professor: In Defense of Flogging by Peter Moskos

This is assuming that you find harsh punishments, like flogging, too much and inhumane.
Small crimes would make do with a good flogging but actions like zina (adultery) and murder that obliterate the fabric of society need to he dealt with strictly, to curb them before they even start to destroy a community.
We Muslims maintain the infinite wisdom of Allah, Lord of the Worlds. How convenient is it for humanity that His harsher Commandments aren't some empty rituals - they ALWAYS have a meaning behind them and are actually for the benefit of human society.
No, they have an extremist policy. Other nations also execute drug dealers. Western countries completely reject this policy and they are right, IMO. I do, however, think that corporal punishment also used by Singapore might be a workable alternative to long prison terms. Book on the topic: In Defense of Flogging
TFW you learn a John Jay criminology professor wrote a book promoting flogging as a means of reducing the prison population.
Yh, luckily in Syria we woke up to the truth of human rights and how much of a joke it is, no one really cares about our suffering, why should we follow those who could stop our suffering but just stand and witness this bloody mess?
Also there are books in defense of punishments like flogging written in the western academia.

This has nothing to do with Stockholm Syndrome. Here is some great research on this, there was a book written by a criminologist called "In Defense of Flogging": https://www.amazon.com/Defense-Flogging-Peter-Moskos/dp/0465032419 . Granted Muslims don't need validation from Western Academia, but nonetheless its nice to read.
Yea, some nations have other tools than incarceration: 2020: Caning in Singapore...relatively-minor infractions – such as selling fireworks, vandalism, unlicensed moneylending or even being addicted to drugs – (can draw this punishment)
July 2022: Singapore has carried out five executions this year, all of people convicted of drug offences
Want to get how much sharia law countries use corporal punishment. Interesting book, not that it will ever fly in the U.S. -- In Defense of Flogging. I'll take that in lieu of solitary confinement.
There's an interesting book that actually advocates flogging as a valid and preferable form of punishment for some crimes, rather than such ridiculous long sentences. In Defense of Flogging! This whole 3 strikes system is only used to feed prisoners into the prison system. The US govt promises a minimum number of ~~slaves~~ prisoners to private companies who buiid and manage prisons, to get free or very cheap labour! Source!
Personally, I would much rather get a 100 lashes for a crime than be sentenced to years in prison!
I had to read a portion of In Defense of Flogging while in law school. It was a pretty interesting argument against prison and for physical punishment.
u/ow-pointy add this to the book list.
I saw a good book review of In Defense of Flogging.
Can’t find it right this second.
