I just posted about this at r/52book.
In the Kingdom of Ice, by Hampton Sides is excellent, in the same vein as Into Thin Air (another Krakauer book), but describes a 1880s polar expidition. It is excellent.
I also really liked The Proving Ground. Boat race meets storm.
If you end up like those and Into Thin Air, you also might enjoy 127 Hours/Between a Rock and a Hard Place. I have issues with this book because it's autobiographical, this dude fucked up big time in terms of wilderness safety and ended up with a weird following after it. But, that also happened to the Into the Wild Guy, which you are liking, so you might like this, too.
