Back when I used an angled adapter, this is exactly the Amazon entry that I ordered from. It even says "You purchased this item on April 20, 2018." at the top, but I digress. Definitely sounds like they sent you the wrong adapter! I'd contact them for a return/replacement.
And personally, I'd recommend the Inateck OTG over the angled adapter, but its shortcoming is that you have to use its included power cable instead. And the power cable is just over 1 foot long. I was using a USB extension cable for awhile, but I found that I'd get random power downs and black screens, so now I just deal with having the Classic right next to the power bar.
But with the angled adapter, which I gave up on after a month and a half, had a tendency to get nudged just the slightest bit and then lose the data connection. It was an annoyance. Other people I know don't have that issue, but I wasn't alone.
I have 2 of these for different classics. everything has been lightning fast for about 6 months.
Inateck Card Reader Adapter, USB OTG Adapter with SD/TF/MS/M2 Card Slot and 3 USB 2.0 Ports, (No Power Adapter), Black, HB3001G https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OCBXIY8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Fok4Db0S3E78V
You can install Bleemsync 1.1 using the single working port. If you can also do the kernel update then you can buy that Inateck OTG hub and you're golden even for multiplayer!

Who knows, maybe the process will fix the usb ports, too. Slim hope.
This is probably an unpopular opinion but I never trust the cheap stuff.
Buy a usb with a sandisk brand or higher quality, and buy an OTG online. Dont be afraid to spend an extra 3$ on a nice one. This is the OTG I use:
Inateck Micro USB Card Reader Hub, USB OTG Adapter with SD/TF/MS/M2 Card Slot and 3 USB 2.0 Ports, HB3001G https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OCBXIY8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_a9R-CbKR7FSF3
My best advice is to buy a nice usb, power draw isn't an issue with OTG so you dont have to be too picky. Good luck!
I can't recommend this one enough. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OCBXIY8/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00OCBXIY8&linkCode=as2&tag=johnpatton-20&linkId=f68f8a444fd6671130c8755cc6d6abb5
Also if you're using bleemsync, format your USB drive to NTFS for final format. No reason to use any other one, it's faster in everyway.
If 4-players/wifi/less wear on your rear port is something that interests you, this one is very reliable:
Inateck Micro USB Card Reader Hub, USB OTG Adapter with SD/TF/MS/M2 Card Slot and 3 USB 2.0 Ports, HB3001G https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OCBXIY8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_EuncDbTCHJX4Q
First off the controller you linked is a third party controller, not official nintendo. From what i've heard and read here is that 3rd party knockoffs don't work on the snes mini.
For the USB hub, i only use the angled otg adapter so I don't know about the hubs from experience. But the one always mentioned here as the best by others is from Inateck: https://www.amazon.com/Inateck-Adapter-Compact-Compatible-Smartphones/dp/B00OCBXIY8
Internal USB hack? Nah, you have to buy an adapter that hooks up to the power source in the back.
This is what it is: https://www.amazon.com/Inateck-Adapter-Compact-Compatible-Smartphones/dp/B00OCBXIY8
You hook that up to the back, and it provides power, plus all those usb ports, where you put the USB drive. Those other USB ports can be used for other USB controllers too.
Yeah, that's what I mean. If you're using one of those right-angled OTG adapters for your USB drive, it has to be connected in the SNES just right in order for it to work. And unfortunately, for me it tended to wiggle just a little, and the system wouldn't see the USB drive. If you do have one of these connectors, check its connection to your system. Make sure it's not crooked. I got sick of it happening all the time and ended up buying this OTG hub this week. It works a lot better, but isn't without other issues (its power cord is only a foot and a half and the USB drive gets warm even when the system is off, so I unplug it between gaming sessions).
If you don't have the right-angled adapter....well, I don't have much experience with the other ones, but it probably is an issue with the adapter.
Myself and others have been using this hub with no issues.
This is what I got. I can’t figure out how to get power to it.

Quality control on those octopus ones seems to be lacking and too much guesswork about ones that work and ones that don't. I even supposedly had a "good one" that I only used for a couple weeks that failed. I just got this one and will have to try out soon: https://www.amazon.com/Inateck-Adapter-Compact-Compatible-Smartphones/dp/B00OCBXIY8/ref=pd_sim_107_5?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00OCBXIY8&pd_rd_r=RD9N0FYKBDWYT0ANX8NW&pd_rd_w=kmANp&pd_rd_wg=3Elfm&psc=1&refRID=RD9N0FYKBDWYT0ANX8NW
I'm hoping it will prove to be a reliable option for folks who want multiple inputs.
I haven't seen complaining on the right angled one so that likely is a good option for those not needing additional inputs.
I'm planning a back packing trip in a few months and am putting things together getting ready for it. I want to shoot a bunch of video and will be gone for over a week so I need a way to make backups into a portable hard drive as having the necessary amount of 64g or 128g SD cards would be prohibitively expensive.
I tried an OTG hub/reader like this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OCBXIY8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 with my Nexus 5, and it worked as advertised but it seems Android doesn't support ExFAT which is what newer cameras write to these days.
Has anyone else run into a similar situation? I'm looking at cheap Windows tablets but concerned about the quality and reliability.
tl;dr, how do you make backups in the wild without a full blown laptop?
You don't need a laptop, just get an OTG USB hub that supports simultaneous access to multiple devices, like this one:
Then buy yourself one 256GB microSD card, and one 256GB SD card. Plug everything in, and now you have 500+GB of music available to any Android device that supports OTG USB interface. Connect to the car via Bluetooth and you're good to go.

Pretty sure this is the one everyone recommends and use including myself
I use the hori Nintendo switch controller ($25) and works perfectly (most of the time)
I just ordered this one from Amazon because my octopus OTG cuts in and out ALL THE TIME.
Ditch that and find one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/Inateck-Adapter-Compact-Compatible-Smartphones/dp/B00OCBXIY8
I use this for storage via the SD port (currently 32GB), and then the additional USB ports for extra controllers.
I did also buy a USB/wifi dongle, but never bothered trying to get it to work so won't opine on that.
There's a bit of trial and error though as not all of these hubs work as expected, but I did buy two when they were still available on AMZN and both worked fine.

this is the OTG hub that I use.
This OTG hub will enable 4 players and wifi when it arrives:

FYI I'm using this, https://www.amazon.com/Inateck-Adapter-Compact-Compatible-Smartphones/dp/B00OCBXIY8
Any known issues with connections? It seemed to be the best rated around here.
Update: I bought this one. And now everything works fine. cable fit perfect. no interruption. https://www.amazon.com/Inateck-Adapter-Compact-Compatible-Smartphones/dp/B00OCBXIY8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1540901742&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+hub+otg
I just ordered one I was very nervous because their really isn't a lot of information about these things online. But Im happy to say the inateck 10 dollar adapter works fantastic and is the best otg I have found. Only problem is that it comes with a very small power cable. But defiantly don't waste your time on other otgs like the octopus or the right angle this is the only way to go for a reliable otg that will hold up. Hope this helps guys!!
I heard the octopus were horrible as well, but the one I ordered is more of a hub.

A lot of people have recommended this one.
> Inateck hub
Just ordered this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Inateck-Adapter-Compact-Compatible-Smartphones/dp/B00OCBXIY8
Do you have to have to use the power adapter, or can I just one of the usb 2.0 ports to connect to my nintendo power brick?
This one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OCBXIY8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_lGCnBbTP1E8VP
The only downside is that its power adapter is much shorter than the SNES Classic’s adapter.
anyone know if this would work: https://www.amazon.com/Inateck-Adapter-Compact-Compatible-Smartphones/dp/B00OCBXIY8/ref=pd_sim_107_5?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00OCBXIY8&pd_rd_r=RD9N0FYKBDWYT0ANX8NW&pd_rd_w=kmANp&pd_rd_wg=3Elfm&psc=1&refRID=RD9N0FYKBDWYT0ANX8NW
I saw this recommended in another thread but it doesn't ship to the USA and thought the above looked like it may be the same: https://www.amazon.co.uk/CSL-External-Adapter-Smartphones-compatible-Black/dp/B00Y1092WM/ref=redir_mobile_desktop/262-3026900-9592345?_encoding=UTF8&%2AVersion%2A=1&%2Aentries%2A=0
