Assuming the drive itself is okay, then yes. Or you could use something like this, assuming that it's SATA. It would be easier than farting around with the wires, if you're not accustomed to this sort of thing.
Yeah they make a 4dr model but then you run into a cost problem at $100 cap you can buy something like this in a 4 terabyte drive off Amazon for $65 a renewed hgst or watch out for sales on even externals and shuck them I did that to get 5 Western Digital Reds a while back
And you could get a USB dock that still only holds two but cost $30 so you could buy that and a 4 terabyte drive
Get a dual docking station for both 2.5/3.5 hard drives that allows cloning ability.
Shutdown computer and take out the hard drive you want to clone.
Use the dual docking station to clone the entire drive and everything on it from origin A to destination B. I’ll leave a link below.

They said I can test them before I buy but has to be tested at the university. Can you recommend any free software? I was thinking of using a hard drive dock like this with laptop.
You can get a hard drive cloner that makes that a snap. You put your current drive in one slot and your new ssd in the other, push the button, and 30-60 min later, you have an exact copy on your ssd that you can put in your computer and call it good. Very easy. Don't even need to be connected to a computer.
Here's a newer version of the one I've been using for the last five years:
