It's an epic poem (I know, I know, trust me), the first of three parts which are altogether known as The Divine Comedy, where Dante travels through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven.
Inferno has a lot of similar ideas to the topic of your post. All of the denizens of Hell are restless in various, often exaggeratedly gruesome ways. It shouldn't be hard to read, though, if you're icky about that stuff, as the poetic language softens it a bit. It's one of the foundational works of Renaissance Catholic literature.
