I would say no. Don't get a new CPU. The only one worth getting, really, is the i7-3770k:
~$250 on Amazon. If you want lots'a cores, and productivity ability, then a Ryzen 1500X or 1600, a B350 mobo and single stick of fast memory (for buying a dupe later for dual channel...) could cost you not terribly more, say $50'ish.
There is always a little bit more expensive frames per second option like the newer i5-8400, with a Z370 board (as that's all that is available right now) in hopefully the $100 price range, and, again, a single stick of memory, for the previously mentioned later upgrade. That setup could cost ~$375 or so.
I have a 3770k, all delidded, does 4.7ghz, blah blah. But I'm kinda tied to it as I'll not be buying memory right now, that's for sure, but since my Z77 motherboard died I had to find a used one from China for $180 (it used to retail, new, for $109, ugh...). Keeping hardware as old as ours upgraded/up to date is a losing battle at this stage of the game. It's probably better to just look at a new CPU/mobo/RAM option.
I have a older MSI B75A-G43 Gaming motherboard. How/where can I check which processor still fits. I have one of the first Intel 7 installed right now but I might just upgrade the motherboard too if the price isn't too bad.
Do I have to lock for the intel socket 1155?
Edit: I found that one would it fit?
I have had my i7 for nearly 5 years (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007SZ0EOW/r), and I've never run in to issues. A couple years ago I upgraded from an 8800gts to a 980GTX; I've got 32GB of Ram. I see no performance issues, and I feel that there wouldnt be a huge improvement with a new CPU. Am I wrong? Is there some way I can see # comparisons of my i7 vs a newer i7?
Thank you for being specific. Some of the responses I have gotten have just told me I should get a newer one without explaining why. Would either of these CPU's work? One of them is obviously a quad core, but idk on the other.

Here's the processor and graphics card I currently have, built my own computer about 4 years ago.
Not really as it outlines one of the 8350's main feature. If you overclock, you can get the same/better performance as/than a stock i7-3770k (which honestly isn't that bad at all considering an i7-3770k is ~$155 more expensive and performs similarly to an i5-4590 (and the i5-4590 is also more expensive)).
Yeah, I've been only able to find cores with the 1155 socket on Amazon (although I could try r/hardwareswap too...)
According to Amazon, anyway, a 3770K would be around $350 used. http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-3770K-Quad-Core-Processor-Cache/dp/B007SZ0EOW
A 3570K is about $200 used (ignoring first offer) http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B007SZ0E1K/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used
And a 2500K is about $170 used. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B004EBUXHQ/ref=sr_1_1_olp?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1451273748&sr=1-1&keywords=i5+2500k&condition=used
So, I guess, which is the best option?
400 dollars right on the dot.

I definitely do recommend a gaming pc, it just makes life a little bit easier. And honestly you'd just get more out of a desktop than a laptop. With desktops you get a little bit more freedom, more power, and the ability to upgrade your hardware. They also tend to be more reliable. Just a quick thing though, get a good processor. A lot of places will tell you that you don't need a super high-end processor which is true for most people, but for someone that records gameplay and renders 10-30 minute videos a good processor will be your saving grace. Especially if you want to play games on the highest settings at 1080p 60fps. I recommend an i7 3770k or if you don't want to drop the big bucks AMD FX 8350, and just dropping my opinion here, I'd go with the 8350 because it's cheaper and you get more bang for your buck and works just as well as the intels.
Seeing on amazon it's around $300 used.
Im not trying to be a dick but just to let you know /u/NIARTNAM, the price of that mobo/case combo brand spanking new is $190 so thats not really much of a deal. And if you add the 3770k the mobo/case/cpu combo comes out to ~$460 brand new.
