easily the best phone mount period.
I have it attached to my black box thing behind the rear view. Stays and that will adjust to whatever size phone you have.
I use the iOttie one touch: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BZC262Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_9-qcAbVJ9H410
No issues with triggering assistant. I haven't seen it come close, but the phone will not react to the squeeze if you hold it for more than a second or so.
Please ignore all the other comments. Just go for this one. Ive tried many mounts and this is simply the greatest!!

Not really, no. Ended up going with a dash mount. It works well enough, but wasn't really what I wanted.

I've bought two of these mounts for both cars (for both Moto X's). They work disturbingly well. The cradle things work fine and are easily adjustable so they don't hit the buttons, the extensible arm is pretty solid, and the suction cup is made of some crazy unobtanium. Our dashes are just the standard textured vinyl, and the suction cups don't need an adhesive base, they just stick right to the dash. They finally fall off maybe twice a year, and we just stick them back on.
You'll be fine (well except for the driving across Illinois thing), you're likely just overthinking it. I do recommend ordering iOttie Easy One Touch 3 (V2.0) as well and swapping out the actual phone mount piece as the Rugged Ridge one doesn't grip very well.
I use the iOttie Easy One Touch 3. It comes with a reusable dash pad with a non-destructive and renewable adhesive for dash mounting, or you can mount straight to the windshield. It has a ton of versatility in mounting location due to the high level of adjustability on the mount itself, and has a easy in, easy out system where you're never fidgeting with clamps...just press your phone against the back and it snaps closed, press the buttons on the back and it locks back open.
I bought one of these for each of my vehicles. Best mount I've had. I don't like the vent mounts because usually, the vents are in use, which means the phone is either really hot or really cold.
This one is great. The base sticks well to my dash without leaving a residue and can be reused. The arm and hinge mechanism is very sturdy once locked into position. Definitely recommended.
I've had this one since Christmas. Works great for me, the suction cup is sticky, so it'll stick to surfaces that aren't perfectly smooth, I've got mine mounted to a flat spot above the parking brake buttons.
Not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for in a Cadillac, but I bought one of these and am very happy with it!
Yup, it's this one... I have both of these, but the newer one is obviously better. The new one's clamps sit just shy of the volume button on my regular pixel. The old one covers the volume down button. https://smile.amazon.com/iOttie-Universal-Holder-Samsung-Packaging/dp/B01BZC262Q
I've had this phone holder for multiple long distance trips and has not failed even once. Easy to use, easy to setup and adjust. Don't lose grip, doesn't jiggle and doesn't slowly lean.

Ok firstly you don't use a mount to charge your phone, just get an accessory port (cigarette lighter) USB adapter and whatever cable your phone needs , just make sure to get one that is at least 2.1 amp, my current one has 2.1 amp ports and one 2.4 amp port.

I'm trying to get it and the dash to cooperate but the part of my dash where it attaches flexes quite a bit so am contemplating solutions for that outside of just duck taping that panel to the one behind it. If I can't get it to work on the dash I'll just flip it around and put it on the windshield like I had my previous one.
I just went through this myself. I used this article:
http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-bluetooth-kits-for-every-car-stereo/
Their #1 recommendation doesn't do auto-connect, have to press a button each time (they do mention that). I went with their #2 recommendation.
Pay attention to the model number of the #2. The one they recommend is HB01, not HB01 Plus. They mentioned that the Plus has ground loop issues. Some people on Amazon also mentioned it, but not enough. I gave it a try... had to return cause I also had ground loop issue, along with echo on call. The recommended HB01 worked great so far.
For the mount, I got this. Have it mounted on the dashboard, but it mounts to windshield too: https://www.amazon.com/iOttie-Universal-Holder-Samsung-Packaging/dp/B01BZC262Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481859410&sr=8-1&keywords=iOttie+Easy+One+Touch+3

I was using a magnetic car mount that was in the vent but I got this back in October and absolutely love it, so much better than the magnetic one
I have a 2016.5 in use this iOttie Easy One Touch 3 (V2.0) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BZC262Q?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
I love it, in use it in front of the gear selector, i know is low but the mount is telescopic and give some high stand is you put it right also i use android auto so i like it there for the usb cable.. here's a pic: https://imgur.com/IvoRtXW
Not a magnetic but try the easy one touch 3. I use it on my og xl and love it. Most secure mount I've ever seen. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BZC262Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_lJm8zbHQGZX7A
I use 2 different iOttie depending on my car.
This one is in the explorer. If you have a fairly steep windshield that is close to you with good space, or you want to mount the sticky part to the dash in the middle, get
This one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BZC262Q/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If you have a smaller car with a steeper windshield, this one extends farther and it doesn't block the headphone jack like the other one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JRGOKQ8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The first one is the nicer one, but the second one is just as durable and more flexible.
I have the angled dash mount found here: https://www.proclipusa.com/vehicle/dashboard-mounts/10019-volkswagen-golf-gti-vii/2017
Probably the best mount I've ever had. If you want one that's more run of the mill and on Amazon I highly recommend this one: https://smile.amazon.com/iOttie-Universal-Holder-Samsung-Packaging/dp/B01BZC262Q/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1508027410&sr=8-4&keywords=iottie+car+mount
I have a car CD slot mount for my phone, but with the Otterbox case and the phone weight, the mount sags when I drive, so I need to find another solution, maybe I'll get this to mount it to my dash.
RemindMe! 5 days "Tell this guy about this car mount that I bought after I get back from my trip."
I use the iOttie mount. It holds up really well offroad.
Give the iOttie Easy One Touch 3 a shot.
Folks around these parts and on XDA (haven't searched for the specific thread I remember reading it on but it's around) have confirmed that it fits at least the XL without hitting volume keys. I'm still waiting for mine to arrive before I can confirm either way about the non-XL Pixel.
The one-touch mounts from iOttie are the best: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BZC262Q/ref=psdc_10981321_t1_B00JRGOKQ8
There is nothing better. We have multiple models in my household (4 cars). All of them fabulous.
And yes you can mount it backwards, upsidedown, etc. The unit that accepts your phone can be rotated into landscape (that is how I use it, for maps).

For a mount, I suggest a suction cup one such as this.
Literally the best. Sticks to anything. https://www.amazon.com/iOttie-Universal-Holder-Samsung-Packaging-/dp/B01BZC262Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1472087999&sr=8-2&keywords=Iottie
This is a great mount https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BZC262Q/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_awd_9oohxbZE37870
This one has lasted 2 years'ish https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BZC262Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Works even with an Otterbox Defender, so it should work with any case.
