Here is the cheapest all in one package on amazon. Fan is 190 cft and 48 decibels. https://www.amazon.com/iPower-GLFANXINL4FILT4MD8C-Exhausting-Pre-Filter-Reversible/dp/B00D7M6692/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497493628&sr=8-1&keywords=duct+fan+carbon+filter You would probably want a fan speed controller with this too.
I found this over at Amazon. Right under your price point I think. Prime shipping available if you're in a hurry.
its pretty smelly yes. Especially in the late flowering stage / early dry. Your flat will smell alot if you dont have one of these. (doesnt need to be that one, i payed 50 bucks for it and its absolutely important if you dont want everyone to know what youre doing.
I went with this combo as it was relatively inexpensive:
https://smile.amazon.com/iPower-Inline-Carbon-included-ventilation/dp/B00D7M6692
In hindsight I probably would not recommend this one because the fan is a lot noisier than I would like. The filter itself is performing just fine though.
This is what I was referring to, yeah those duct boosters (as they're called) won't be anywhere near strong enough to exhaust your tent especially through a filter, plus I find they're almost as loud as their blower-style centrifugal counterparts.
I found this, not Phresh, but it had good reviews compared to the Ventech I have seen recommended on here. I will def look into the Phresh though! Thanks! Edited to ask your opinion on the fan/filter combo or if you have experience with it at all. :)
I imagine you could purchase these activated charcoal sheets that you can cut to size! Tape a plate with a hole over it and you should be able to cut any size you want. The fan you spec'd looks like it should be able to handle the load that the charcoal filter will cause (it is going to be like trying to breathe through a straw rather than just your mouth).
Another option would be something like this where you have an all in one filter/blower system. It's more money but it will handle all that obstruction better. Alternatively you can go to a harware store and buy an inline duct booster. You should be able to control the fan speed with a big triac or possibly PWM signal.
just get a carbon filter. it works and they aren't expensive for what you get out of them. this is the one i have : https://www.amazon.com/iPower-GLFANXINL4FILT4MD8C-Exhausting-Pre-Filter-Reversible/dp/B00D7M6692/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1470109516&sr=8-6&keywords=carbon+filter
To stay low budget, you could use PC case fans. It depends on how stealth you need to be. If you need a filter for the smell, you might have to go with a legit ventilation kit which would be another $100 on Amazon. like this one
Great, so I'm looking at this set for my ventilation needs if I do decide on a 3x3 tent. Still not sure about which LED light would be sufficient and of good quality though.
> I am choosing to leave out side lights from my first build to reduce the amount of variables that may give me electrical/heat issues. Will this significantly affect my yield to the point where I should be seriously reconsidering this decision?
Not really. The sidelights are a nice and cheap upgrade, but probably affects more trichome production than yield.
> Which of those two fans do you think will work better for me? If these are both horrible, what other fans should I be looking at? I am looking at doing a DIY carbon filter since it seems to be pretty straightforward. What sort of DIY carbon filters do you suggest? How powerful should fans be to deal with a carbon filter in a standard-size space bucket?
Its really hard to recommend those small fans for filters, my advice would be to get an inline fan and filter and not overcomplicate things. ONA gel is also a good solution for odors.
> I am using white buckets rather than mylar because it seems white buckets work fine and mylar can create hot spots. Is this accurate?
White buckets are a fine choice, but mylar does not create hot spots. That is a myth. Check /r/HandsOnComplexity for the science behind that.
> I've read that buckets are much cheaper at stores than they are on Amazon. Around how much should I be spending for 4x white 5 gallon buckets? Are there any other items in my build that I can get for cheaper in person?
Try to get them for free. I've never paid for a 5gal bucket. At least in my city there are a lot of 5gal buckets near construction sites, to give one example. You just have to know where to look.
> I am planning on ordering seeds from Nirvana. Is this a good vendor or is there a different one that I should be using?
Should be OK, most big vendors are fine.
> I've found plenty of resources about space buckets on this subreddit and the website, but not much on the actual process of growing Marijuana inside of a space bucket. Apart from the setup, is there any difference in the process of growing Marijuana inside of a space bucket and growing it another way? Is there any sort of guide or subreddit dedicated to what's needed to go from seed to harvest you can point me towards?
Check the bucket plant guide for tips from the community. The best kind of experience will be your first hand experience. You should expect to kill some plants before mastering the proccess. In a Space Bucket, the main challenge is keeping the plant as short as possible. If you keep it low the lighting will be more effective, and the flowers more awesome.
> Any general advice? Anything I'm missing?
Yes, don't forget to update us and to have fun! Welcome to the community.
I got this off of Amazon a couple of weeks ago and my wife is smoking in my tent using it. I can stand a foot away from it while she's bonging out and not smell a thing. I like it so much I bought another one so she can keep her 'smoke shack' and I can use the new tent and filter system as my flower room https://www.amazon.com/iPower-Inline-Carbon-Ducting-Ventilation/dp/B00D7M6692/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1536844206&sr=8-3&keywords=4%22+carbon+filter+system
I power has been pretty good from my experience. Currently on sale. $50 for a whole kit. https://www.amazon.com/iPower-Inline-Carbon-Ducting-Ventilation/dp/B00D7M6692
don't buy that pos go with this one instead. 3 years and still going strong https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D7M6692/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I am not really sure. I am in the US, but if I were going to get a fan and filter right now I guess i'd get something like this.
So yea $250 seems like a lot, but with the controller and what not I don't really know.
They actually have a good picture on that amazon page of how you can set up the filter/fan.
Currently using all my equipment, but I got it all on Amazon.

Then I just got buckets from home depot.
Can confirm this will work and be smell proof if you set the filter on the ground of your tent and then set the fan directly on it so it draws all of its air through the filter before going out.
I've had this bad boy for almost 4 years without a hitch https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D7M6692/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_4?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
If you don't plan on purchasing a bigger tent in the future. A 4 inch fan/filter kit on Amazon will suffice. https://www.amazon.com/iPower-Inline-Carbon-Ducting-Ventilation/dp/B00D7M6692/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1548639477&sr=8-3&keywords=ipower+4+inch+190+cfm+inline+fan
Carbon filter eliminated nearly all odor. I went the first 3 or so weeks without it, then the smell started coming on strong as it was starting to preflower. Bought the filter and it was night and day. Highly suggest it.

Highly recommend it.
The bathroom fans that 95% of people who DIY spray booths use aren't anywhere close to sufficient for a proper spray booth. They do like 40-80CFM when a proper booth does more like 200+
BUT
I recently stumbled on something on Amazon while looking for a way to filter the exhaust of my pro booth into the attic without an exterior vent.
Apparently with the growth of home cough "growing operations" cough you can get some very nicely priced ventilation gear nowadays.
Below is a link to a setup for a mere $90 that contains a 190CFM blower with a large charcoal canister filter setup. If you're even a little electrically-inclined, you could wire this setup remotely in the attic with a light switch by your spray booth, and keep the loud fan far away from you. If you are wary of venting into the attic, skip the filter and tie the fan right into an existing vent pipe into the attic.
If I wasn't already invested in my booth, it's definitely the way that I'd go and I'm VERY tempted to do this regardless and just ditch the booth. Good spray booths are quite loud. It's not an annoying sound, but 200CFM of air moving just creates a lot of white noise. This is a good way to mitigate an awful lot of that by moving the fan part out of the room to wherever you want.
I haven't done this myself yet so I can't speak to exactly how well it would work but it's definitely the way that I would go if I were you. At $90 even if it were an abject failure, it wouldn't be a huge loss. And I haven't seen one of these fans in person, but the cheap canister filter I got that is a part of this same set was extremely impressive for the price.
And splurge an extra $30 for the 6" fan and get a whopping 450CFM of suction and never smell a chemical fume again. Only problem with that is how hot your room will get as you suck all the air-conditioned air out so fast. That'd be a bad-ass setup on a variable control, so you could keep it at like 200 when airbrushing and bump it up to the full 450 when using a rattle-can or something really stinky.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D7M6692/ref=twister_B01M5KWG52?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 Do you think the 4 incher will be good enough for my needs?
Do the exact same thing but with a 4 inch not a 6 and have the four going in. Itll fixed your issue and it'll give your plants purified air.
Just to be clear though. Having your tent suck in a little is a good thing. Ot means that no stinky air is escaping.
