Ive used a screw-in pull-up bar (like this) with rings for about a year now and it works fine. Rows, Dips etc. are no problem, but I do have to regularly check if its still tightly secured. I also try to avoid any exercise with excessive amounts of swinging and, because I still dont trust the thing completely, any exercise where a fall would lead to serious injury like skin the cat.
I guess what im saying is if youre fine with feeling a little uneasy they work just fine.
I use this type of bar in a pre-war building and it works fine, but I had it fall off once, because I kept moving it up and down to do different exercises. Since then I just leave it at the top of the frame and tied rings to it for exercises where I need something to hang from at lower positions. I don't use the screws for it but of course it still damages the surface of the door frame a bit. If you're going to repair it anyway and leave it in one position you might as well screw it in and then I don't see why you'd be concerned about stability for this type of bar.
There are doorframe pull-ups bars you can get that don't require you to screw into the wall. You can always get doorway pull-up bars that don't require a lip on the top for it to hold onto, such as this one:
When I was in a similar situation I had to use one of these tension mounted pullup bars: https://www.amazon.com/JFIT-fit-Deluxe-Doorway-Pull-Up/dp/B00D9Q7ZVY It worked well enough for me without the screw in safety caps for pullups etc without ever falling, though I wouldn't want to do anything too dynamic on it.
I've been using this one since the Iron Gym type ones don't fit in my doorway. http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D9Q7ZVY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00 I also don't use the mounts, just screw it on and let the rubber do its thing. Just make sure you pull up from the correct side or you can kind of torque/unscrew it while pulling up (if that makes sense).
Well, the BeachBody people would say do Gamma, and buy more products! And that's a fine choice I guess, but not one I have the money for.
I decided to start running again. I run 3-4 days a week, and I do Rip't Circuit, Dynamic Core, or Upper Body on days I don't run either because it's raining, or I just need a ground-pounding break.
My kids do gymnastics, so I did buy this pull up bar for them to practice on, and installed it at an appropriate height for them. But I bought that was specifically because it will hold 250 pounds, so I know it's VERY safe for my 35-40 pound children, and I can use it too. I can't actually do a pull up yet, but I have my eyes on the future.
I've been thinking that when winter actually gets here and running in the morning at 30 degrees is uncomfortable, I'll just redo Alpha and Beta again. Then as Spring comes, back to running.
I don't really think it matters what we do, as long as we keep doing something. Eventually I'd like to join a gym and get personal training, but I don't have the time, money, or confidence to be seen in the gym yet.
I don't get your question, you can install the pullup bar so that you can close the door!?!
I lived in a house where the doorframes extend all the way to the roof so I had to build a custom mount for a hangboard. What I did was buy a simple door frame pull up bar like this and mounted the hangboard to a piece of plywood and then fixed some large hangers on the back of the hangboard so that it could be hung over the pull up bar (make sure you get some very sturdy hooks for this, I used these ones. It's worked very well for almost 3 years now. Highly recommend this approach!

I'm in a similar situation, and ended up with a pullup bar that bolts into the door frame (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D9Q7ZVY?psc=1), and hanging rings or another bar off of that. My landlord allows you to hang things on the wall as long as you fill the holes when you leave, though.
I also found a stand alone bar that might work if money isn't a big concern. http://www.amazon.com/All-one-Stand-Alone-Pull/dp/B001KUURTS

What I use and it's great so far. Only issue is no wide grip pull ups.
