I'm sure you can find them somewhere locally too.

If I had a chance to start my first grow over, I would've tried a monotub instead. Look into that if you truly can't find the correct jars anywhere.

I keep all my tea in mason jars. Just like others have said here make sure it's out of the light and your good to go. I've been doing this for years.

The mycelium can tend to stall in taller jars, but people definitely get away with it. Whatever size your jar is, the BRF/PF tek recipe is simply 2 parts vermiculite, 1 part water, and 1 part brown rice flour. When doing taller jars I would err on the side of less BRF.

Walmart rarely has the right tapered 1/2 pint jars but large, and some small, hardware stores have them. You're local grocery store may carry them as well. Seems like you always see them when you don't need them but as soon as you go looking, nowhere to be found

I like these ones for holding 2oz worth (open a tin, stick it in a jar) and they stack!

Get a prepaid card and go here for some spores. Buy some brown rice flour, vermiculite, and 1/2 pint jars (great option), or these, (ok option). Then go to shroomery and read up on pf tek and live cultures and you won't have to worry about acquiring them ever again.

these are tapered 1/2 pint wide mouths. Better than regular mouth jars. These are 1/2 pint regular mouth jars, will work but not as well. These are Ziploc 1 pint twist and seal containers with screw on lids and are my favorite by far. They pc fine (as long as you dont let your pc run dry) but you have to melt 4 holes in the lid or the negative pressure makes the sides suck in.

I saw your video a couple weeks ago. Not bad but I'd use these 1/2 pint tapered jars or these ziploc twist n seal instead of the tall jars. The tall jars take allot longer to colonize. The ziplocs are 1 pint I think and do fine in the pc.

The 4oz Jars make an awfully small creme brule. I have used them to make little mini flans though. I like the 8 oz wide mouth jars for creme brule. I have found 2 styles: Ball Elite and Jardin. The Ball Elite look nice, but they are a pain to clean and don't work for things like egg bites or flan, because of the shoulders on the jar.

Generally speaking 2oz of loose cut tobacco will fill an 8oz jar. Flakes are more dense and you'll be able to fill a lot more into the same sized jar.

I like these 8oz jars since they'll hold a typical tin's worth of tobacco and stack up nicely.

These taller 8oz jars are stackable and work well for flake tobacco.

My friend showed me how to do it using corn. He's going to write up a guide at some point and I'll probably end up posting it on here with pictures, but I'll give you the basics.

1. Boil corn until it's soft (regular unpopped corn kernels from the grocery store). They should be soft enough to bite into and chew. Strain the corn afterwards.
2. Buy pint mason jars, punch a hole in the top of the jar cap and put a piece of cotton tightly in the hole which allows for air exchange and will keep out bacteria that would otherwise contaminate the jar. Pack the jars with the boiled corn and leave a little bit of space at the top (so you can shake it up later), place the cap on top of the jar, screw it on, and then wrap tin foil tightly over the top.
3. Sterilize the mason jars in a pressure cooker. I'm not sure on the timing but I think it was about a half hour - 40 minutes. I used a normal vegetable steamer and placed the mason jars on top of it with water at the bottom of the pressure cooker.
4. Let the mason jars cool. I turned off the heat and left the pressure cooker sealed over night.
5. Take off the tin foil and inoculate the jars with a spore syringe. Make sure to shake up the spore syringe, the spores sometimes lump together so you need to evenly distribute them. Sterilize the needle with a flame (a lighter will do) and then place the needle into the mason jar through the side of the hole with the cotton in it. Inject the spores into the jar and then shake it up. The spore syringe has measurements on the side, mine came as 10ml per syringe. I used 1ml per mason jar.
6. Place the tin foil back on top of the jars loosely (to allow for air exchange). Leave the jars in a paper bag that's open at the top for about 3 weeks, or until each jar is saturated with fungus (a good metric is when you see nothing but white inside the jar, and the fungus stars to pull away from the glass slightly).
7. Get a container to grow your mushrooms in. I found that the plastic containers they sell whole chickens in at the grocery store work the best. Get Coconut Coir (available on Amazon or any garden supply shop) and boil it. Make sure to allow space for it to absorb water because it absorbs a LOT! They come in bricks, you may want to use half or one quarter of a brick at first just to get an idea of how much water it absorbs.
8. Get a pair of gloves, latex will probably work fine though I used normal rubber kitchen gloves. Sterilize them with rubbing alcohol.
9. Strain the Coconut Coir, pick up a handful and squeeze the water out. Be careful if it's still hot, the rubber kitchen gloves I used provided some protection but I still burned myself. Put a layer on the bottom of the chicken container about half an inch thick. Take two of the cakes out of the mason jars and break them apart, putting a layer over the coconut coir. Then put another layer of coir on top of that. Don't worry about breaking apart the cake, the fungus will knit itself back together.
10. Punch a hole in the top of the chicken container, place it on the base (loosely) and leave it basically anywhere, though ideally some place semi-dark. My friend left them on a chair in his kitchen and he said he had no problems. Leave it for another couple of weeks and you should start to see growth.

That's pretty much it. Like I said, this is my first time so I don't know much other than what I've done so far, but I've gotten amazing results. Good luck!
