I'm about 4 and a half months post op. My scars are still there. However, one of mine had to be opened a little more than normal. It's about 3 times larger than the normal laproscopic scars. However, the two smaller ones down on my lower belly are there, but barely noticeable. I think eventually I won't be able to see them at all. The top one (the largest) is still visible but, it's faded some. All of them still itch. About 1 month post-op I started rubbing two types of good vitamin E oil by alternating them during the day. These have specific types of vitamin E that help the skin heal. You can find scientific research articles on pubmed about them. That's how I determined which ingredients I wanted. Here are the two I went with:
Then at night I use Mederma Advanced scar gel. You use this by coating the scar in a thin layer and letting it air dry. It's sort of like a protective layer over it that keeps moisture in. It's not supposed to be rubbed into the skin. This stuff will itch some...especially if your skin is dry. That's normal. If you skin is getting irritated from it then try every other day. However, I find that as long as I keep Vitmain E on it during the day then I have no problem with this at night.
If you want pictures of my scars then I'm happy to email them to you, but I don't want to post them on reddit. You can PM your email address if you want to see what 4.5 months out looks like. If you want...I also have pictures of mine right after the surgery for comparison. I hope this helps!! Remember...it looks really bad for awhile after surgery. However, it will fade with time and if you take care of them!
I got it at a HEB in Texas, but it should be available at a Walmart or Walgreens. Here is is on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B8TRJI8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_R.baCbX2TZ18J
