I put mine in a plastic bag to use in the shower. I also bought a $4 waterproof pouch from amazon that I used to take pictures in the ocean with. Totally worth it!
Edit- here's the link to the one I bought. It's actually $8 but still worth it imo.
I found a middle ground between a LifeProof case and a thin Ziploc with something like this from Amazon, and so far so good!
I use this, it’s water prof and you can still use your phone sealed inside.
JOTO Universal Waterproof Pouch Cellphone Dry Bag Case for iPhone 11 Pro Max Xs Max XR X 8 7 6S Plus SE, Galaxy S20 Ultra S20+ S10 Plus S10e S9 Plus S8/Note 10+ 9, Pixel 4 XL up to 6.9" -Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LBK7OSY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_pHEVFbKKM4EHA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I use this for my firestick and projector remotes.

Its a bit oversized but works fine. I put in a small piece of paper towel inside so I can quickly see if it leaks. I've had it for 2 years with 0 leaks. I only open them up to replace the batteries.
Getting on and off the ship is very easy at both ports. The only things you NEED to take with you are your Key to the World card (cruise ID/room key that DCL gives you when you board) and a photo ID for anyone 18+. A water bottle is a great idea, however, and you can also take off pre-packaged food. I'm vegan, so I frequently bring a couple of energy bars with me, just in case. However, food is readily available on Castaway Cay. We used these waterproof cases for our phones on our recent cruise, and they'll also hold small items:
People also frequently bring a day bag, either a backpack or fanny pack/belt bag/bum bag, depending on what you're bringing with you.
I've always left my phone and room card and glasses and such on a seat at the pool with no concerns. Odds are very, very low of it getting taken. I've left them alone on beaches other places too, though I have a pretty cheap phone and it'd be more of an annoyance than an expense to replace it (though a pretty big annoyance).
I also have a dry bag (this one) and have taken everything with me to the beach when just splashing around. If I was doing diving or snorkeling or something I don't think I'd trust it to stay waterproof for that long, I'd be nervous.
https://www.amazon.com/JOTO-Universal-Waterproof-Cellphone-Samsung/dp/B00LBK7OSY/
Bring a credit card, an ID, and a phone and throw them all in one of those. You'll want your phone in the pool for photos anyway, and no matter how waterproof your phone is you don't want it smelling like Vegas pool chemicals for a week.
Then bring a canvas/cloth bag and a bottle/can of sunscreen and throw your t-shirt/coverup in that. Throw that in any of the palm tree areas. Worst case is someone steals your bag with your t-shirt and sunscreen, and at $50-$60 they'd pretty much need to do that every single time for lockers to make economic sense. I think I've only had just my sunscreen stolen once in 50+ pool party days.
No need to risk it really, I just use one of these (or any of the similar ones, they're cheap). If you're in a wetsuit, you can put it down the back. For boardshorts, you can roll up the plastic case and put it in your pocket.
I was in cancun 2 months ago and had my z fold 2 inside one of these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LBK7OSY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glc_fabc_WJ325QCRWFB494G9RMRV?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 and it works perfectly! I even took pictures underwater with it. I don't have this exact brand (bought mine through walmart) just copied the first link on amazon as an example.
This works 100% for me, if you still don’t trust it, try putting a paper towel in it and submerging it before you put your phone inside. If the towel gets wet at all, then it doesn’t work. If you still feel uncomfortable about it, put your phone in a ziplock back before you put it in the pouch, gl
something like this can work wonders. waterproof bag with headphone jack
thats where I put the ES100 and run music from my Apple Watch. Makes any buds "wireless"
They have these waterproof pouches you can get on Amazon or Ebay https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LBK7OSY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_oyasFbFYE69BN. I tried it for myself but I don't like it because I need something more compact. Honestly that's your best option outside of using something like sandwich bags or plastic bags to wrap your phone in.
Concerning the waterproof phone case, we used a case that was more of a waterproof pouch like this. It is clear on both sides so you can use the camera on it and still see what you're doing as well.
As for waterproof-ness, my phone was perfectly dry and I dove down to at least 10-15 feet to get some video. The only issue I have with it is the water will interact with the screen through the case (as it is touch sensitive.) If you take a video underwater, it may do some weird things like random zooming.
It has enough room for the phone plus some money and IDs. I like to put a slip knot in the neck band so that I can tighten it around my neck so the waves cant pull it off me, hasn't happened yet.
I'd go for a pouch like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LBK7OSY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_4q3GzbMHJE90N Something that seals around the phone but you can still use the touch screen. Bulky but it probably won't matter in a kayak, has a lanyard too. Also isn't specific to a single phone.
I got a cheap waterproof case and taped some rare earth magnets to the inside. The lanyard wraps around the steering column and magnets hold it to the tank. Works with my gloves that are also touch enabled.
How much will you be using this case? If it's just for a single outing or something, I would suggest getting one of these universal waterproof bags. I have one and have used it many times and it's perfect for water park outings, a day at the beach, etc. Camera works just fine through it. You won't be able to do a lot of typing on your phone, but you can definitely text and take phone calls.
If you're going to be using something permanent, I personally think a Lifeproof case is the best value for your money. I tried a cheaper knockoff (Merit case) and while it worked at keeping water out, the screen protector got really scratched up after just a few days at the beach. The Lifeproof cases hold up much better IMO. You can usually snag one during an online sale for $40-50. Also, check out places like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, etc. as they sometimes have lifeproof cases on sale.
Not at all a silly question! I asked the exact same thing almost a year ago and this subreddit gave me the suggestion to get one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Waterproof-JOTO-CellPhone-Motorola/dp/B00LBK7OSY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1482528338&sr=8-5&keywords=dry+bags+iphone. Worked great - and we were highly amused by another young couple on St. Thomas that got into a big argument, pointing and yelling at us, about why they hadn't thought to do this and the husband was now stuck in the water with one hand overhead at all times to hold up his phone.
If you bring your phone definitely put in a water proof case. I used this one in the Pala Beast and sprint and had zero issues

I don't know about it being badass. But this is the only type there is to waterproof a device. With a pouch. https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Waterproof-JOTO-CellPhone-Motorola/dp/B00LBK7OSY/ref=pd_sim_107_7?ie=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00LBK7OSY&pd_rd_r=6YKFAT85B7Q37D05JVRM&pd_rd_w=ObjdM&pd_rd_wg=qcAII&psc=1&refRID=6YKFAT85B7Q37D05JVRM All other "waterproof" shells or cases might be water resistant at best since they recommend against submersion. I guess, just being able to use your device underwater is badass enough, right?
You could, as long as your water is of reasonable temperature. I wouldn't recommend getting soap on it though since it leaves dirty marks on your screen.
For an extra layer of protection, get a beach bag for it (something like this). You can still use the touchscreen through it (though not fingerprint ID), and it will protect your phone from smudges
If you only care about water, keep it in your normal everyday case and then put it in something like this:
The horse ride will be more of a tour along the coast on horseback, so no expectations beyond a fun mode of transport there :)
I will definitely be trying snorkeling at least and am going to try and rope her into it as well. Perhaps in the shallower waters. Her fear stems from "drowning in the deep".
We'll be taking these waterproof covers for our phones for pictures. They appear to have really good reviews, so here's to hoping they work for us!
Thank you for your wishes and recommendations!
You could always snag one of these for when you are at the boat and use a normal case when you're not:
After seeing this pic I went and bought myself this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LBK7OSY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
It seems to be good, and it's only 9 bucks (well, for amazon prime users, but most people are probably on the trial after amazon prime day)
It's this one, and I absolutely LOVE IT. I got a bunch of sticky crap on it while trying to attach an armband strap to it that ended up not working, so I'm considering giving this one to my boyfriend and getting myself a new one, but as far as functionality goes, holy crap! It's a life-saver.
I actually use a bluetooth wireless headset to listen to music, and I have no problems with the connection and that case! I think it'll work really well for pictures underwater in the ocean, too :) :)
I run in the rain, unless it’s heavy downpour that would create dangerous conditions or poor visibility. Caution and keeping my eyes on what’s in front of me is how I prevent slipping. I generally slow down a tad bit too. Having good shoes with tread that’s not worn too thin is also helpful.
Ziplock bags, the water proof phone cases they sell for vacations on amazon, or the arm bands that the phone goes inside are good waterproof options

You can try what I did while filming underwater. Get a pouch, I have similar to this one: Amazon and it works great.
Start filming out of the water and then submerge. It will stay recording without problems.
You can use volume rockers to take photos underwater or to take photos while recording.
EDIT: I found mine, I have YOSH brand, it is just perfect. I bought it after intensive research about underwater cases of all kinds. Here it is on eBay
It's ok for swimming, but for boat stuff I recommend this guy I'm kind of an avid fisherman, and have used it to spot fish.
I have a Cressi mask, worked great when I bought them but now are leaking after years of use. I have mask cases but have never used them
The biggest issue you'll find is that the better snorkeling is on the west side of the island. Mountain View is great for accessing Volcano National Park and Hilo. And there are supposedly a few places to try on the east side, but those aren't considered the best locations. You could day trip and snorkel at Two step, which would be a two hour commute each way. Alternatively, you could spend a night in the Captain Cook area, which isn't as expensive as many locations on that coast.
I use a dry pouch that goes around my neck ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LBK7OSY ). I have an underwater camera, never had much luck using a case for a phone.
Please to enjoy: JOTO
I put my wallet and key fob into one of these, and then that goes into one of these, which I wear like a fanny pack on the back of my waist. Its quite flat though and hides nicely under my rash guard. Works for snorekling or surfing.
If I'm going to be in the water, I never take my good camera or other things that I couldn't afford to replace if stolen while left unattended. Rather I just bring the basics (chair, umbrella, snacks, water, towel and gear for the planned activity) and with my wallet and key fob on my person, I don't have to worry about what I leave on the beach while snorkeling for 30min to an hour.
I tether using one of these and just loop the lanyard through the PFD strap and slip the phone into a PFD pocket.

Floating the Rio Grande South of Elephant Butte
Things you’ll need:
a. It seems obvious, but I’ve known people that have set sail down river without thinking about how they’ll get back. It isn’t a lazy river and only flows south. Unless you want to try and hitchhike it up I-25, you will need two cars.
a. If it’s your first time, you may want to tie a bright cloth on a tree limb near the pickup point, so you don’t accidentally pass by. Fearing we would miss our pickup was the most stressful part of our first float but knowing to look for the bandana relieved that stress.
a. https://www.amazon.com/JOTO-Universal-Waterproof-Cellphone-Samsung/dp/B00LBK7OSY
i. This is always great if you want to listen to music, or use GPS to track your location as you float down river in anticipation of your pickup spot. Service is pretty spotty, of course, but you should be able to use GPS to locate your position on the river. Also, if you were to have an emergency, having a phone is vital.
i. You’ll also need to make sure you bring your keys for your pickup car on the float, so a waterproof box is vital especially if you have keyless entry or unlock.
a. You can use any type of tube you’d like, but there are two smallish rapids. So I wouldn’t trust a Dollar Tree tube. We always used Intex River Run tubes with mesh bottoms which helped to hold flipflops and things like that. I’d suggest getting the ones around $25-40. We did have one get a hole in it once on the float, and decided to always tie on a spare after that.
a. You will be out in the sun for a few hours minimum, and if you do not bring sunscreen you will get roasted. Apply sunscreen before you set off, and make sure to put more on during your float.
a. Again, it seems obvious, but if you drink responsibly a few adult beverages and some water makes for a wonderfully relaxing time. You can also bring whatever snacks you like! Just make sure you put the trash back in the cooler so you can throw it away appropriately.
a. If you float with a company, they will typically require life jackets, but even if you go by yourself, it may be worth it to wear one. This is especially true for children and those who maybe are confident swimmers. There are spots that the water gets deep and is always moving. You always need to be aware of and careful with currents.
a. https://www.amazon.com/HO-Volt-Tube-Inflator-Blue/dp/B003FXGPOE
i. That one is probably a tad excessive, but one or two of these are nice if you need to blow up multiple inner tubes. If you have a truck, you can always blow them up at home and strap them down, but we have two small cars so this was our work around for that.
Pickup Spots
We have two pickup spots where we’d park cars to get out. One for a short float (45 minutes to an hour or so depending on how fast the current is), and one for a long float (2-3 hours depending on currents.)
a. https://goo.gl/maps/4q6XFvaPJdtG91Cw8
b. This is where all the companies pick up, so it’s near impossible to miss. Probably do this one if you’re short on time, don’t want to commit to 2-3 hours on the river, or have small children.
a. https://goo.gl/maps/DNGByQCP2S4Kpus5A
b. To get to this one you’ll need to stay on I-25 South until the Williamsburg exit. Once you turn on to 189 go right at a half a mile and you’ll see a yellow cattle guard on the left. Just cross over that cattle guard and stay on the path and you’ll find yourself river side.
i. (Sometimes there are people camping here, and while we’ve ran into some “different” people, they’ve always been friendly.)
Drop off Spot
a. This is the standard drop off spot both for the companies and other individuals, so it may be crowded. Be kind and considerate, but don’t hesitate to throw your tubes in the water and sail off when you’re ready!
Thinks to know:
• In late May and early June the water can be pretty cold, so if you’re not a cold water person it may be too much for you, but by the time July and August roll around it’s usually just right especially on a hot summer day.
• It is New Mexico, and there’s always the chance for pop up storms in the summer. Be aware of the weather forecast, and if you see a storm approaching be smart.
• If you have any other particular questions pm me. This was one of our all-time favorite summer activities. We worked closely with New Mexico Tech students and have even taken 15+ people on a float.

Get a waterproof phone pouch. You can use your phone through the pouch.
This was a God send when I was in Hawaii most recently:
https://www.amazon.com/JOTO-Universal-Waterproof-Cellphone-Samsung/dp/B00LBK7OSY
It's an underwater phone case that was surprisingly good at keeping water out. Even if you dont want to take underwater photos, you probably dont want to leave your valuable phone on the beach. Pro tip--Your rental car keys might not be waterproof and could get ruined if immersed in water. I got a second one for my car keys and was so glad I had it.
We left all non-valuables in a bag on the beach. Phones/money/keys went in one of these
I keep my phone in my jersey pocket. If it's hot then I face the screen away from my back so the back of my phone case is touching my sweaty back. If I'm concerned about rain I use an $8 phone pouch from Amazon:https://www.amazon.com/JOTO-Universal-Waterproof-Cellphone-Samsung/dp/B00LBK7OSY (I don't think it was this specific one, but similar design/concept/price). The pouch is great, I've taken my phone into the ocean in it and it has space for a credit card/ID/cash as well.
That makes sense, and I know the Cove/Shores well myself (I live in SD as well).
I use a neck pouch with ID/credit card, and have brought a cell phone when traveling. Haven't had any leaks but they're not indestructible. https://www.amazon.com/JOTO-Universal-Waterproof-Cellphone-Samsung/dp/B00LBK7OSY/
I've heard that Life Proof guaranteed their cases with replacement costs for a new phone: https://twpp.lifeproof.com/help . It's a little outdated though.
It should be fine for if you drop it accidentally in a puddle/pool/toilet and get it out quickly, but like others have said, especially if it's salt water or chlorinated, it can really fuck it up.
If you're looking to take underwater videos or pics, you should looke into a waterproof bag for it. They're cheap and will save you headaches.

Have you looked at the universal ones? https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Waterproof-JOTO-Cellphone-Samsung/dp/B00LBK7OSY
You can get one of those universal dry bags. Or a Ziplock bag?

I have used this myself to paddleboard, and I have fallen into the water with it in my pocket a couple times - works wonders.
Maybe look at getting something like this. https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Waterproof-JOTO-CellPhone-Motorola/dp/B00LBK7OSY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1485498205&sr=8-3&keywords=waterproof+bag+for+phone
I ordered one of these and got a sensor. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Waterproof cellphone case: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LBK7OSY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_vGfGxb9MB5NW6
I put my phone in a waterproof case (sort of like this) and use this bluetooth speaker. It works pretty good and is pretty much water proof. I usually listen to Agalloch or Falls of Rauros, nature music.
I've never used these in deeper dives, but this worked for me on a 40 ft dive in St. Crox, its reusable and definitely worth the price, hope this helps!
