That's true, and while I realise you're being facetious, they get a large number of refugees.

It's on the route most refugees from Africa take to Europe, and a huge number of them don't make it further. They have some pretty big problems related to it, and huge internment camps and internal conflicts.

I recommend Joe Sacco's Journalism, a graphic novel depicting among other heartbreaking stuff, the situation there.
