I recommend one of these for fetch and tug of war: https://www.amazon.ca/Tough-Nature-Hol-ee-Roller-9-Inch/dp/B0002DJX44/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=je%2Bholee&qid=1598902842&sr=8-1&th=1&psc=1
We have a few and they are surprisingly durable (at least for my Corgis). Just don't get anything bigger than the medium since the thicker rubber on the larger ones is more likely to crack when flexing.
I really like taking a holee roller and then stuffing strips of cloth in it. I use fleece because it doesn't have the long fibers that might cause an issue if ingested.
Also, you can still give him things like cardboard, but make sure to have a "ritual" when you give him that cardboard so that he knows that he's allowed to shred it.
I mean, tennis balls that are actually made for tennis aren't good for dogs in the first place. The idea of little dog gifts sounds great, for sure, though. A workaround might be to go with something like this. Design a pretty little card that you can squeeze in there. Something like that?
Uh yeah, so.. I want all the things. Fit Paws stuff and a platform for sitting and a ring gate and a puppy harness and some tug toys... I want it ALL.
My puppy is due at end of November sooooo I have a lot of things I'd like to buy.
Medium Hol-ee Rollers are on Amazon for $3.79 in case anyone wants one.
I have the medium size for my guy but the one in the video looks like a large. It is rather sturdy and I think he really likes the texture of it. I also like how I can just hook one finger in it to throw and save my hand some dirt and slobber.
We have a rarely used corner hallway that I've strung up a bungie cord and an old leash attached to a JW mesh ball
Its suspended in the middle of the hall at the dogs head level and we've stuffed it with fabric stips and treats. He also just plays tug with it sometimes on its own as well.
I went to a Petsmart and got it but I got the large size!! Here’s a link to one on Amazon! https://www.amazon.com/JW-Hol-ee-Roller-Original-Dispensing/dp/B0002DJX44
I like to use slate hides, you get simple ones made for plecos and other aquarium creatures, but I also have a more complex one like this
I've repurchased some things meant for hamsters and gerbils etc. Such as this climbing rope net which I have over the basking spot to provide a bit of coverage and so he can choose how close he is to the heat. And this log with holes and wooden bridge (my bridge is a lot shorter and acts as a platform on the warm side)
I also have a decent sized herb planter which my boy loves digging in and finding paths through the different openings
Other than that just a lot of random pieces of wood from a local aquarium store and pieces of cork bark etc. I also buy new grass plants for him maybe once a year since between his... enthusiastic attempts at gardening, and my half-hearted attempts at watering, they often don't live or last very long, but even dried grasses hold their shape pretty well and he loves digging them up and using them to shield his burrow entrances haha
Hope this wasn't too much of a spam 😅 also apologies that most of the links are UK only, that's just the best way for me to accurately show what I bought
We’ve found these fantastic for throwing and tugging, and they’re light enough not to cause any damage when I biff a toss: JW Pet Hol-ee Roller
My Catahoula/Heeler, Dax, enjoys a few things:
Medium and Large sized Holee Roller Balls. Good to chew on, fun to fetch or catch, can be used for tug of war. These are the workhorse toys of our house and I have like 8 of them of varying sizes at any given time. They will wear out after a bit, but we get about 6 months out of the medium size and the large size hasn't snapped yet, but I expect about a year.
Anything with squeaks, but she eventually tears up stuffed toys and extracts the squeaker, so I only keep one or two out for her, and the rest are in storage waiting to be called into service.
Stuff with a crinkle. Extra points if it also has a squeaker.
If none of those are immediately available or she's bored with them then she'll get a chew toy like a nylabone or kong. I have the means, so I signed up for a Barkbox subscription. I've been happy with it so far and their toys are reasonably durable. We've had more toys that have lasted than we have toys that failed immediately, and their treats are all good quality. They have a Super Chewer version if your dog is a rough player. I started with that initially, but the toys were all too heavy duty (HEAVY duty) for our 2nd floor apartment.
Amazon has a small selection of Interactive Treat Puzzles from Nina Ottosson that we use to keep her occupied for a bit (Dax loves Dog Chits freeze dried lamb lung filets, goes absolutely nuts for them.) We also bought a few feeder balls that she'll roll around for bits of kibble. Though admittedly she'll more often than not just roll it around and leave the kibble behind.
We used to feed her pig ears for long-chew treats, but she started getting tummy issues with those, and I just don't support the idea of rawhide. When I buy bone-in cuts of meat it's because I want that extra flavor so I don't typically think to remove the bone for Dax, and cooked bones or store-bought bones can splinter and cut gums/intestines, or get too hard and break teeth.
Been eyeballing turkey tendon treats, and if I can find one that is reliably sourced in the US then I'll give them a try, but so far I've only seen them on Amazon and I do NOT trust Amazon's stated sourcing. Been burned four times by "made in the US" and turns out it was actually made elsewhere and just packaged in the US.
Get a Holey Roller and put a squeaky toy or kong in it - has driven my pup batty for hours trying to get the thing out.
Get a holey-roller and put a squeaky tennis ball in it. Drives my pup bonkers.
Looks to me like some kind of dog treat ball, but I could be wrong.
Our bulldog, like most Bulldogs have allergies. So the biscuits that work for him are the blue buffalo wilderness biscuits, dehydrated sweet potato, or dehydrated chicken. We have a two different sizes depending on the size of the treat. I've seen our dog tug and pull on it and it still hasn't broke. But he's not much of a destroyer except for a leather shoe and the soft toys. http://www.amazon.com/JW-Pet-Company-Hol-ee-5-Inches/dp/B0002DJX44
These are the toys that slowly release treats. Our dog has a controlled amount of Origen dog food a day (the only dog food that doesn't give him the runs, raw works the best but I don't have time for that!) or he gains weight easily, he's super lazy. So part of his food portions go in these toys. I save the training treats that he really likes for training only. There are many variations of these toys, I'm pretty sure kong has one. http://www.amazon.com/OurPets-Smarter-Interactive-Inches-Colors/dp/B003ARUKTG/ref=pd_sim_199_11?ie=UTF8&refRID=17BR5Y5R4C9WA65JYHMP
Found this ball, claims to be indestructible or something. http://www.varsitypetsonline.com/products/Varsity-Ball
Good luck on training!
The only toy that has lasted more than a month or so is this: http://www.amazon.com/JW-Pet-Company-Hol-ee-5-Inches/dp/B0002DJX44/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1428985962&sr=8-5&keywords=dog+ball
He's also had this toy since he was a baby, but he's ripped out all the stuffing and unraveled the ropes, but he still loves it so much that I don't want to throw it away: http://www.target.com/p/boots-barkley-mesh-bone-with-rope-dog-toy/-/A-12737321#prodSlot=medium_1_22&term=dog+toy
Milo doesn't run, he likes to chew on these and maybe have me play tug o war with him.
Try a holee roller stuffed with strips of fleece. All the fun of pulling the stuffing out of something, but washable and infinitely reusable. They also make bigger ones.
