This might be a good fit. In my novel, K3+, people starts running away from inequality and Climate Change on Earth, to spacebound cities. Centuries later, those in space live in a post-scarcity society while those left on Earth are struggling. Collapsing due to under population the US threatens the space cities, which have no army or weapons, with Space Ballistic Missiles (SBMs):

May I recommend my own novel, K3+? The initial chapters are kinda dark, as climate change and economic inequality coalesce into a dystopia, triggering a massive exodus to space cities. Centuries later those in space live in a post-scarcity civilization while those left on Earth are still struggling. As nations begin to collapse due to under population, the US declares emigration illegal, and the ultimate conflict is inevitable. You can find it on Amazon, iTunes, and as an audiobook.

My new novel, K3+, tells the story of how mankind first overcame its deeply ingrained planetary bias and started migrating to rotating habitats in space. We currently have a lot of the technology (what we don't have won't be hard to develop) and, most important, we don't need new physics. The main challenge is the sheer scale of the project. Same with interstellar travel; we already know how to accelerate a ship to a fraction of light speed, without having to discover new physics.
These are subjects broached by the novel. Spoiler alert: Rockets go extinct in a few decades. If you'd like to check it out:

Oh! Sorry! It's a sci-fi novel I just published. I'm trying to promote it by posting screenshots of it . We’re allowed to do self-promotion on Saturdays 😊
It's not Trump-humping, just that part of the chapter. Most American presidents have their own favorite predecessors. The part of the story on the screenshot takes place two centuries in the future. If you'd like to get a sample to read or listen, you can find it here:

Since you like Rendezvous with Rama (I don't for a minute pretend to compare myself with Clarke but I've been influenced by his novels) perhaps you might enjoy my novel, K3+. My novel, K3+, hinges on the Fermi Paradox and, in the last chapter, humans encounter the first alien civilization on the Virgo cluster. The aliens are not humanoid, nor DNA based. I created them in such way, an evolutionary biologist couldn't object to them :-) They're stuck at the per-industrial level and humans are afraid, if left to evolve, they'll turn into a super predator.
However the first 6 chapters narrate the story of humanity conquering space. Climate change and economic inequality coalesce into a dystopia, triggering a massive exodus to space cities. A century later those in space live in a post-scarcity civilization while those left on Earth are still struggling. As nations begin to collapse due to under population, the ultimate conflict is inevitable. If you'd like to check it out, it's on Amazon, iTunes, and in Audiobook format.

My novel, K3+, presents a an inequality/climate-change dystopia. As people starts running away towards space, the US forbids emigration by declaring it an act of treason (yes, capital punishment). The POTUS has portrait of #45—his personal hero and source of inspiration—in the oval office. As nations begin to collapse due to under population, the ultimate conflict is inevitable. Asimov's best, to me, is The God's Themselves--which I just finished in English for the first time (I grew up in Venezuela and read it in Spanish tens of times!). However, if I may, I just finished a sci-fi novel of my own, which builds on and references Clarke, Niven, and Asimov. Climate change and economic inequality coalesce into a dystopia, triggering a massive exodus to rotating habitats. A century later those in space live in a post-scarcity civilization while those left on Earth are still struggling. Did you read "Hard to be God" from the Strugatski brothers? It was one of my teenage year favorites. I myself just just wrote a novel, K3+, climate change and economic inequality coalesce into a dystopia, triggering a massive exodus to rotating habitats. A century later those in space live in a post-scarcity civilization while those left on Earth are still struggling. As nations begin to collapse due to under population, the ultimate conflict is inevitable. You can find it on Amazon and iTunes.
Hola Bruno,
In my new novel, K3+, Climate change and economic inequality coalesce into a dystopia, triggering a massive exodus to rotating habitats. A century later those in space live in a post-scarcity civilization while those left on Earth are still struggling. As nations begin to collapse due to under population, the ultimate conflict is inevitable. You can find K3+ on Amazon and iTunes. BTW, neither my co-writer nor myself are native English speakers, but we hired enough editors to erase it! :-D
My new novel, K3+, tells how climate change and economic inequality coalesce into a dystopia, triggering a massive exodus to cities in space. Since you like Isaac, you might like my novel, K3+, inspired on his teachings. Climate change and economic inequality coalesce into a dystopia, triggering a massive exodus to rotating habitats. As nations begin to collapse due to under population, the ultimate conflict is inevitable. You can find K3+ on Amazon and iTunes.
The main character in my novel, K3+, is a down-to-Earth far-from-perfect guy who's a team player and makes mistakes like the next guy, but it's 200% committed to the cause. We meet him eons in the future and we learn the kind of utopia humanity turn into. Then jumps to 2016 and tells the story of how we got there, and how our main character was involved. You can find K3+ on Amazon and iTunes.
In my novel, K3+, one of the friendship is a billion years old. The other is between and parentless child and her mentor. They both break apart for a hundred years, because of the most extraordinary discovery in the history of mankind, but they come together again to face the challenge. You can find it on Amazon and iTunes
The more data that comes in, the more likely it seems that we’re the only civilization in the Milky Way, possibly in this part of the universe. The first hint came from Enrico Fermi when he asked ”Where is everybody?” That doesn’t mean there isn’t life. Most likely life is common.
My novel, K3+, deals with this topics (sorry for the self promotion). In the last chapter humanity encounters the first alien civilization. You can find it on Amazon and iTunes.
I apologize for the shameless self-promotion. In my novel, K3+, the AI is non-sentient. I believe this is the difference between an omnipresent servant of humanity's post-scarcity civilization, and building our own replacement--going the way of the Neanderthal.
It's conceivable we are the first civilization on this part of the universe. this places a huge responsibility on our shoulders. A sentient AI will almost certainly drive our annihilation.
