It's supposed to be a relaxant. I think of the muscles, mainly, but people also use it as a sleep aid like they would with melatonin. My anxiety is significantly lessened. Again, I don't know if it's a placebo, but I'm happy with what seems to be taking place.
I'm currently taking KAL magnesium tablets: https://www.amazon.com/KAL-Magnesium-Glycinate-Chelated-Servings/dp/B00013YZ1Q
There's a review freaking out about arsenic but I don't think I'm dead yet.
Google Morton "Lite Salt" for potassium supplementation. Cheap at Walmart.
I supplement magnesium glycinate found at Amazon.
KAL Magnesium Glycinate 400 | Vegan, Chelated, Non-GMO, Soy, Dairy, and Gluten Free | 90 Servings https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00013YZ1Q/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_g7ovBb83KCC2K
Lite salt is definitely not enough sodium. I found that out the hard way. What I do now use both lite salt and regular salt for my ketoade.
For a liter of water, I'll do 1/4 tsp lite salt and 1/2 tsp regular salt plus 5-6 squirts of Mio. I'll take magnesium gycinate in the evenings along with my multivitamin and other supplements.
I take two of these at night about an hour before I go to bed https://www.amazon.com/KAL-Magnesium-Glycinate-Chelated-Servings/dp/B00013YZ1Q. they are pretty big but if you place it on the length of your tongue like | not --- they go down smooth with a big gulp of water. Everything goes well in the morning.
Take this with a grain of salt but you could try a more bio-available form of magnesium. Citrate just doesn't do it for me. I take two of these guys every night and it makes a world of difference!
I use these KAL brand magnesium glycinate and they don't have any carbs. I take 400mg per day (2 pills).
This magnesium is the only one I can tolerate. It is magnesium glycinate. I've tried others with awful results. Natural Calm gives me horrible digestive problems but works for many others.
Edit to add: The magnesium spray is also a great suggestion! You could spray it directly on your legs before bed and because it is absorbing directly into your skin it will bypass your digestive system altogether. The brand I've had success with is called Ancient Minerals, which is also available on Amazon.
I really like taking magnesium glycinate because it's one of the most bioavailable forms of magnesium and has the added bonus of quelling some of my baseline anxiety. I usually take it before bed, so no feelings of fuzziness here.
I use KAL Brand, but it looks like OP's brand is very similar.
This Magnesium Glycinate is what I find works best for me. It's the one kind that doesn't cause horrible GI distress. A lot of people use Natural Calm but that brings on the GI problems for me.
For potassium and salt, I just use No Salt and regular table salt, mixed in with broth. When I workout I put 1/4 tsp each of No Salt and regular salt in my water bottle. I really crave the salty water when working out and this way I'm replenishing electrolytes as I sweat them out. Once I started drinking this mixture during my workouts my leg cramps went away.
KAL - Magnesium Glycinate 400, 180 tablets
I have had good luck with the above link, much more affordable than your linked product.
As for the diarrhea issue, keep your dose low to start and start gradually increasing until you find that you do suffer the symptom, then take a dose every day that is before that point.
I have no issues with diarrhea @ 800mg a day, but above that, absolutely.
Calcium is always good stuff -- it helps you absorb the magnesium and visa versa, as I recall. And zinc is good, too -- it's supposed to be good for ovulation and implantation, and it'll make any colds you pick up last a shorter period of time, heh.
Magnesium Oxide isn't the most easily absorbed form of magnesium, but the calcium should help with that. :)
This is the Magnesium I'm taking, but they're huge pills, lol, so fair warning.
Sounds good. Here's the glycinate version I've used: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00013YZ1Q . Maybe amazon has cheaper shipping. Good luck!
Pills for those in the US:

I buy magnesium Glycinate from amazon. It’s pretty reasonably priced.
KAL Magnesium Glycinate 400 | Vegan, Chelated, Non-GMO, Soy, Dairy, and Gluten Free | 90 Servings https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00013YZ1Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_hfJRBb8T6Q19H
They're pretty big. I like having them so if i want just half I can break it to get 100 mg
Seeing you are from CA I don't know if they'll be listed on the .ca site
I was on oxide for quite a while, but I recently switched to this after reading about it on /r/nootropics.
I use this. A LOT better https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00013YZ1Q/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1
This is my magnesium supplement.
Brazil nuts are also a great source of magnesium.
You can buy magnesium flakes and make a lotion to rub into your skin.
Bath bombs are typically made with epsom salts, which have magnesium. So help out a local soapmaker and buy some bath bombs, or if you live in a sad place with no soapmaker, take an epsom salt bath for a nice bit of magnesium.
I've just started using these and I've liked them so far.
In the past, I've used CVS brand supplements and it been totally cool too. Mg Glycinate is often hard to find in brick and mortar stores, so a good one that I've used in the past is here
Everything else is fairly easy to find.
