I am a mediocre drummer, good bass player, keys, and guitar player. But for me, I once had a full MIDI kit, but then got something smaller like https://www.amazon.com/Percussion-KTMP1-Electronic-Sound-Module/dp/B00FONJ658
Because I realized, for whatever odd reason, I get much better results from playing the MIDI in with sticks for real drums, it mattered less it was a full kit. A lot of getting them to sound realistic is the natural swing/groove of it. The good plugins like BFD 3, I assume Superior Drummer, but haven't used it, sound like great studio drums, but perfectly to the grid MIDI does not sound like real drumming.
Meh. I mean as long as it has a MIDI output, you can probably use it, but those seem to me more like a toy, than a musical instrument. Also, they are way too big for the utility they provide. I'd probably get some kind of a sample pad instead, or stick with programming the MIDI by hand.
Out of the samplepad realm, the top of the line is probably the Roland Octapad (way too expensive IMO), but you can get decent ones for as low as $130, or $160. They don't come with a pedal, but if you buy a trigger pedal separately, you can use it with both of those.
The KAT KTMP1 is probably one of the cheapest options that are still worth it. If you are looking for something more similar to the octopad, but still about half the price, the Alesis Sample Pad Pro might be worth looking into.
