I got this case from Amazon. I think it is the closest thing to the missing Apple cover. I got the Midnight Blue one. It works well with the Apple Smart Cover and the Apple Smart Keyboard.
I bought a back from Amazon and it looks like it came with the keyboard. Well worth the investment.
Got this case from Amazon, it doesn’t block the Smart Keyboard. It almost feels like the missing piece!
I got this cover for $9 and some change open box it works fantasticly and is very study along with perfectly blending in the with keyboard cover. Their is a open box right now though amazon warhouse for $8.
I have Apples Smart Cover and a cheap but really high quality matching case thing I got from amazon. Least gets you halfway if you don’t wanna pay the Apple tax.

I use the Smart Keyboard + Khomo charcoal case from amazon. The color match is exact and gives it a clean but durable look.

The key is to have a cheap shell to put them on. I have this one and it was well worth the $12 I paid for it to protect the back of the ipad that’s not covered by the Smart Keyboard.
I use this one, and it even matches the colors of the smart covers perfectly. I had the clear plastic ones before but they seem to crack easily despite me never having dropped it or mistreated it. I personally stay away from the plastic clear ones for that reason. Back Case
The iPad cover is very nice. It's actually better than the one for the 9.7 (at least for me) since the magnets seem stronger. For the back, I got this case which is surprisingly good quality (iPad Pro 10.5 Inch Charcoal Gray Color Case - Companion Cover - Perfect match for Apple Smart keyboard and Cover. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07215MYS4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_hDpHzbZNMC8NQ). It has a very close color match to the silicone cover, and a similar feel ( although it's not silicone, the rubberized plastic feels very nice.)
I've used an iPad+Magic Keyboard basically since this spring and I've loved it. I really tend to hate cheapo plastic bluetooth keyboards and the Smart Keyboard is sort of bleh. The keyboard cover is nice and props up the iPad at a pretty similar angle to the SmartCover.
The back cover is this one which acts as a very good replacement for the lack of an Apple branded Silicone Case. That JETech one from Amazon that someone else listed is also very good.
I bought this Khomo Charcoal Gray case from Amazon. It's only $12.95 shipped with prime.
It matches the Smart Keyboard cover almost exactly. And I mainly wanted a back cover to help protect the camera lens that sticks out. I already scratched my desk at work when I dragged it as I picked it up. And when I take the keyboard cover off when using it at home, it still provides protection and some grippyness when holding it.
So right now I'm using the leather sleeve along with an Apple SmartCover and Khomo case since Apple refuses to sell me one.
The leather case is... not the most useful purchase I've made. Sure, it's very pretty and is well-made, but it doesn't seem to be worth what I paid for it. I had it in my bookbag when I was travelling this summer and it never seemed to do much aside from cover the cases that were already affixed to the iPad.
Pulling the iPad out of the leather sleeve was just an added step of trying to use the damn thing and it actually became a bit of a nuisance.
Your situation might be a little different since you choose to use the Smart Keyboard and a skin where I chose a SmartCover, case, and a Magic Keyboard. I think it can be worth it if you're the kinda person to walk around with your iPad outside of a bookbag, messenger bag, or briefcase, but probably not otherwise.
I bought this Smart Cover compatible case from amazon. The camera doesn’t stick out and I also love the finish/quality.
I also take notes with the Apple Pencil, the Smart Cover supports it enough that I can write while it’s in an upwards position like in this photo.
Edit: here’s someone on reddit with this case a while back when I was deciding which Smart Cover to go with. https://reddit.com/r/ipad/comments/8tfp8y/_/e17aqep/?context=1
Is there a polycarbonate shell for the iPad pros that does not have a folio cover? I had one for my iPad Pro 10.5 but can’t seem to find one for the new models.

I'm in the same boat, I've got the Air 3 and I want to use the Apple keyboard but also have protection for the back. Searching this sub, I found this case:

Looks like it is exactly what I'm looking for, and even provides protection when you take just the keyboard off.
Amazon has half-shell cases.
Poetic Lumos Flexible Soft Transparent
Just scroll down from those links and all kinds of half-shells.
Many still allow using smart keyboard cover if so desire.
