Finally back on track with writing my MG novel, got 4k in over the weekend. Good sleep and exercise helped.
Got my first big paycheck from the new freelance gig, (HELL YEAH CASH MONEY) won the Monthly Writing Challenge for the third time, and it's almost 2 weeks out until King Callie is released on Amazon.
As if that wasn't bad ass enough. I figured out how to make Mailchimp auto-email new subscribers to my mailing list, to give them a copy of an exclusive short story as thanks for signing up. After bashing my head against a keyboard for two hours. I might've felt a little bit like this guy when I pulled it off.
So yeah, good week. Sweating bullets about King Callie, but that's good. Preorders are blowing away my expectations. And if there's anybody who's a little gun-shy about buying it, PM me. Will send you a special preorder sampler with the first half of the book for free, so you try before you buy.
Well, the important stuff - King Callie is up for pre-order at Amazon and Smashwords; got 20 chapters of it up for sample over on Smashwords and Wattpad. Working on getting my cover formatted so I can do paper copies, and that review/interview/guest post grind is under way.
Also got my deposit in for Odyssey Writing Workshop in the summer, so it's starting to sink in that it's a) official and b) I'm going. It feels far away, but I know it's gonna sneak up on me.
Hey! Check out the free sample of KING CALLIE, which includes the first 20 chapters, at Smashwords. The book's also on Amazon.
The blurb: Multiple POV feminist epic fantasy about the battle for succession following a beloved King's death; after the Royal Seer messes with the timeline and sends the Prince off to his death, the path is opened for Princess Callie to take the throne - but the Minister of War steps in, and it becomes a battle of politics and wits to find the magic axe that'll prove her mandate, and to oust him.
If you like House of Cards, Downton Abbey, and Game of Thrones/ASOIAF, you'll probably enjoy King Callie.
Yo!
I'd be fine with you (or any other former member) contributing online.
Also, how's it going up in Boston? Did you see Brian published something?
So.... King Callie is officially being self-pubbed, and is up for preorders right now. In its first day, it sold enough to hit #14 on YA Arthurian Fantasy on Amazon. Which kicks ass. It's my debut, so cracking that top 20 with preorders feels fantastic - and all of the support from friends and family has been tremendously validating. it's not the general Fantasy top 20, or the Amazon Top 100, but these are some damn good baby steps, y'know?
I've started sending out review requests, and got my first interview and book review lined up, along with a Writer of the Day spot over on /r/Fantasy, on June 1st - in the meanwhile I'm working on a preorder contest just for funsies. If any of y'all would be interested in reviewing it, I'd be happy to send you a copy in the format of your choice. If you just want to read some of it, check out the first 25% for free on Smashwords.
Other than that, I got a new part-time gig contract gig as an Editorial Freelancer for a local university's marketing department, and the pay is awesome.
