I really just like the generic grocery store brand. Over the more expensive Yogi, if your just looking for the caffeine and health benefits.
I do like the budget friendly Costco brand.
Kirkland Ito En Matcha Blend Japanese Green Tea-100 ct 1.5g tea bags https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000WB1YSE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_PX234QZEVA0605KQSD7Z
For best flavor, you would need actual Japanese sencha. However, republic of teas has a really great tasting “double green” little pricey though
On the why not both front, I drink this matcha and sencha blend: https://www.amazon.com/Kirkland-Matcha-Blend-Japanese-Tea-100/dp/B000WB1YSE
I can't claim I did any extensive research on the subject, or have tried many different teas, though. Mostly, it was the best tasting green tea available free at work.
I hate bags, but one of the better bagged greens from a grocery store I've had is Costco's Kirkland Green tea with sencha and matcha. It is by Ito En, which is a good tea seller that does matcha/greens pretty good. FYI, this has matcha so the caffeine will be high.
If you don't have a costco, you can buy online. https://www.amazon.com/Kirkland-Matcha-Blend-Japanese-Tea-100/dp/B000WB1YSE
If you can find Harney & Sons in store, they have good teas too and come in bagged form.
edit: since you are new. Refer to the side bar for temperatures. Green tea needs to be done at a lower temperature or it'll be a bitter mess.
Interesting theory, but I've never heard of brewing tea that way. I found the brand I drink on amazon. 100% Japanese tea and it doesn't recommend throwing away the first brew.
I'm probably not as much of a tea expert as the rest of the guys and gals here but I have this green matcha tea I bought from costco and it tastes good enough to me.
Comes in a huge package of 100 and isn't too expensive at about ~$0.20/bag.
This is tea with matcha however. I'm not sure if that is the same as just matcha.
If you want something similar to matcha, but pretty inexpensive I'd suggest you check Costco for their Sencha & Matcha mixed tea bags. If i remember correctly they're actually much cheaper at the store than the Amazon price, and as with most kirkland products they're just slightly rebranded Ito-en tea. Definitely becoming one of my favourites.
Here it is on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000WB1YSE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_xh6mBbGZ4BJ4E
i'm not so brave to venture outside "bagged leaf" but i've been really enjoying a cup of costco ito en matcha blend every morning! so toasty and i haven't gotten tired of it yet! definiteely still going to scourge this sub to find out more about loose leaf + cold brewing tea

I didnt mention anything at all about ownership. I'm just calling it by how its identified on the cover of the box. As far as I know Kirkland is the Costco branding for their products they sell similar to Great Value for Walmart.

Ok. As a start here's a list of the teas you referred to. How much would you like of each of the non-freebies? (For the freebies, I have only a little and in most cases would be sending you all of it, so no need to specify an amount. The Ito En Sencha + Matcha is the exception—I have a lot, and could send you more if you'd like.)

Hello again! Got your PM. Would you like to try any or all of these teas? I can pack small quantities (such as 10-15g samples) or larger amounts, whatever is your preference.
Ok, cool! Here are a few more possibilities, based on the other teas you mentioned. Would you like to try any of these? (or anything else on this list?)
Yes, this one. It's usually cheaper in Costcos, at around $18 (granted you pay for membership).
Yeah I actually wasn't aware of the fact until I saw it on amazon. I should try that brand, it's very reasonably priced.
I buy Ito En brand green tea (Matcha Blend) imported from Japan from Costco. Last time I got it cost $13 for a box of 100 large teabags.
Edit: Found it on Amazon
i would not worry about tea caffeine - a good starter green is;
http://www.amazon.com/Kirkland-Signature-Matcha-Japanese-Leaves/dp/B000WB1YSE
which is $8 cheaper when bought inside any local Costco.
