I've been using these knipex for the last 2 years and they still strip and cut like new. Feel great in the hands, worth the price imo
I got these with the red dipped grips. They've been working great on the 20 year old stranded thhn I'm working with.
Can agree. Knipex has slowly replaced all my hand tools with theirs. I love Klein, channellock, ideal, Greenlee, tried them all but NOTHING works/feels/cuts/performs like knipex specifically the forged wire strippers

Both of the ones you linked are rated for working on live circuits. If he doesn't need that, this saves you some money. I have pliers like you linked in your other post but just the standard cobra, not the quick adjust with the fancy grips. They're great, though I'm not sure an electrician would use them as much as something like either of these. Note that the one I just linked has wider jaws more like a lineman plier versus the more Needle nose of the installation pliers.
Just buy these once, and never have to worry about it again for the rest of your life.
Several people are recommending Knipex cutters that are not designed to cut steel.
As far as I know, these are the only Knipex cutters designed to cut MC/BX.
I run a lot of armored cable, and I typically just snap it in half and cut it with regular Knipex side cutters, or use a cordless bandsaw.
I would recommend the Knipex combination wire strippers 13 72 8. They strip wire from 10 to 20 gauge, cut MC cable, work as needle nose pliers/ mini linesman pliers, cut machine screws without having to thread them through the tool, work as a conduit reamer, and are spring loaded with a lock. It's hands down one of my favorite tools.
For resi I LOVE rackatier’s crocs. Far better than Kleins offering, super sharp & stays sharp. For any other use I use these Knipex.
Definitely a solid collection, but I'll make a few recommendations:
-Leave the calipers at home, you'll never use them. I've used a set once in my entire career and they'll just wind up getting thrashed in that bag.
-Ditch the yellow allen keys, that orange Klein set will do everything yyou need.
-Change out the box cutter for a proper Olfa knife, and get a loomex stripping knife as well.
-YMMV, but I personally loathe those strippers. I personally prefer either these or these.
-Might be a little late, but if you can return that backpack and get the one that's a size smaller, do it. Speaking from personal experience, I have that exact pack and I hate it. Most of my apprentices got the smaller Klein pack and it's so much more practical. Way cheaper too.
-A second, larger set of channel locks wouldn't go awry.
Also, what do you have for drills? At the very least, you should have a decent 20V cordless impact and drill. If you can afford it, splurge for a combo kit that has a standard drill with a hammer function. Unless you're working somewhere where powered hand tools are provided.
All in all though, very good start.
I got these they are very sharp and cut better than my dikes or linemans.

Get these and you'll have no problem cutting wire. They can go through a handful of 10 gauge solid no problem.
I got a pair of these and now I'm spoiled and will never buy another set of strippers/cutters. The blade is curved so you can use it to strip bigger cables too
