I bought the book as soon as it came out. I intend to make a pair or two; but I really don't like afterthought heels. #1 I prefer the architecture and visual relief of a gusset and #2 the afterthought heel, I've found (and have received feedback) that they just don't fit as well as a gusseted heel. That book is beautiful and brilliant and I love The Drunk Knitter for inventing the technique. There may be a way to modify it to use gussets. I struggle with tension between my first and second sock. My second sock is usually much tighter than my first. I think this one long tube method just might be my solution to that!

I posted this book (https://www.reddit.com/r/knitting/comments/tcwmad/new_sock_book_never_heard_of_making_socks_like/) about a month ago, and I can say that I've successfully knit one pair of socks and am working on my 2nd! I've struggled with knitting socks that fit, and this has been such a great solution to my problem. No tension issues on the 2nd sock, no 2nd sock syndrome, and it's much easier for me to stay motivated to knit!

This is also my first time doing afterthought heels, and I must say, I'm not a huge fan of the fit of a traditional afterthought heel, however, I did find this tutorial (https://www.susannawinter.net/post/2019/06/28/improving-afterthought-heel-fit-and-shape) about altering an afterthought heel for a better fit. I'm in the process of trying that tutorial on my current WIP socks (pictured above).

Overall, I think this book is awesome, and it definitely makes sock knitting more manageable and enjoyable for me. Highly recommend adding this one to your book collection and trying it out for yourself if you struggle with socks, like me!
