Josef Koudelka is one of my favorite photographers. Google his name and "Gypsies," about the time he spent in Roma villages in what was then Czechoslovakia. They are not all classic "street" shots, more like shots from the village, on the streets, in homes, in fields, etc. But they are some of the most powerful work I have seen. And this was done in very poor, rural, villages.
If you have the cash, buy the book. You won't regret it.
