My first bike this year got stolen within 10 days despute a decent lock and being behind three layers of keycard access. If you get a really good bike lock *the NY STD lock should do the trick and I'd recommend also using a chain to secure the wheels to the frame. It's a little bit if a hastle but you get used to it.
Whenever I take my nice bike downtown, I lock it up with this Kyrptonite lock, and lock it around the frame and back weel to the bike rack. I'll always try and lock it up in a high foot traffic area, and try not to leave it for more than an hour. If I'm parking downtown for longer than that, I have an old cruiser bike that is worth maybe a couple hundred, that, well, if it is stolen, it's not the end of the world.
However, leaving it all day for work is tough. I'd just buy a good u-lock for the frame and back wheel, and loop in a bike cable through the front wheel. Try and do it in a high traffic area, and you should be okay!
It slides at the top and the bottom, so it cant wobble. At the top, the bar is a bit narrower for a few centimeter because there is no rubber protecting it. It is supposed to have another piece for the original fixation system. So the lock cannot slide back more.

Oh that's quite annoying, mine came with a mount it's the silver piece, I got it here; https://www.amazon.nl/Kryptonite-New-York-Lock-Standaard/dp/B06XCH21YH/ref=sxts_sxwds-bia-wc-p13n1_0?adgrpid=105443200272&cv_ct_cx=new+york+lock+kryptonite&dchild=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwhb36BRCfARIsAKcXh6FCFIdWHz_OS6WKqMMI2J-ei25HQr8wfW1qCvnO...
Anyone looking for a good one, Kryptonite's New York Standard Lock is THE way to go. Most shops here don't carry it because of price (between €70-€100 on Amazon). They carry Kryptonite's entry-level locks (grey/orange and overvalued at €40-€50, depending where you get them).

I've had the NY Lock for the last 4 years and used it to park €1.5K+ Cube and Orbea road bikes overnight on city centre in both Dublin and Cork.
Never had a bike stolen or locks damaged.
PS. Kryptonite also does a "Fahgeddaboudit" made of hardened steel and at 18mm diameter is virtually impregnable.

That's the one I bought and I still. Have my bike :)
Kryptonite's locks are made in China and in Taiwan: https://thebestbikelock.com/best-bike-lock/abus-vs-kryptonite-vs-onguard
Also, read the several reviews of Kryptonite New York of the lock being cut by thieves (with pictures): https://www.amazon.com/Kryptonite-New-York-Standard-Lock/dp/B06XCH21YH
Time to get one of these.
https://www.amazon.ca/Kryptonite-New-U-Standard-Heavy-Bicycle/dp/B06XCH21YH/
I have two. One to lock one wheel to the frame and another to lock the other wheel to the frame.
I use these Kryptonite U-locks and never had an issue. It is a little heavy but I put it in my back cargo rack. Specifically, lock it so the frame and the front tire is locked. You can also, for more security, buy a cable or one with a cable like this and then lock the back tire too....maybe if like at work etc and leaving it locked long periods of time.
If you're still shopping for a bike, I use and recommend this bike from Priority cycles...it has the lights built into the bike so don't have to worry about removing them and adding it back.
I also bring my bike inside to my apartment and don't use the complex locks.
Think about it like this. Sure technically given enough time and the right tools could break that lock....but if someone is using a saw on the lock in public it would take awhile and someone would notice.
Just an FYI, you can register your bike with msupd. I'm fact, I think it's required of all bikes on campus. (not that its ever really helped with bike theft) . Link below: https://police.msu.edu/parking-services/permits/
Scroll down to "bicycles" and click the link to take you to the form. Unfortunately the best way to deter bike theft is to buy a nice ulock. I have the kyrptonite "fuhgettaboudit" as it is the thickest u lock on the market I believe (link below) Kryptonite New York Standard Heavy Duty Bicycle U Lock Bike Lock https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XCH21YH/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_Q09Z6QQMMY2WW32QBSKA
It's important to note that if a thief really wants your bike, they WILL take it. The ulock is only a deterrent, however it's thick and requires a lot of cutting to get into.
As far as the lock is concerned, I’ve had good luck using the Kryptonite New York Standard New-U Lock:
My goal is always to make my bike more of a pain in the butt to steal than its worth. I usually spend about 10-15% of all of my bikes overall value on security, and never use just one locking mechanism. I usually recommend U-locks or a heavy chain. Yes, they’re a pain to transport, but many more lightweight locks compromise on security. With the system I use, nobody is getting in without an angle grinder. Get a heavy U luck such as the one above. If you don’t want to pay quite that much, this is another good option:
https://www.amazon.com/Kryptonite-Series-4-Evolution-U-Lock/dp/B07BWG2H5K
I usually lock my U-lock lock-side down around the frame, and run a cable like this through the front wheel:
Then I use some crappier, cheaper locks to lock up secondary things such as my seat, child seats, panniers (if you have them), helmets, etc. Here I just use master lock cable locks (the kind that could be defeated by bolt cutters pretty easily) and cheaper U-locks. These types of locks are fine for lower-value secondary equipment, but you do not want to be the person who locks up your ebike frame with this:
It’s definitely a good idea to bring the bike inside your apartment. Never leave it out overnight. Also, add the bike to your renters insurance policy. That way you can get it replaced more easily if it does get stolen. If your local PD has any way to register your bike and its serial number, do it. When it comes down to it, no lock is 100% effective. If a thief wants it bad enough, they can find a way to take it. Do your part to minimize the time you leave your bike unsupervised, invest now in good locks. Use multiple locking mechanisms to make your bike less appealing than whatever one is locked up next to it. If you want to add even more security, replace any quick releases (skewers, seat posts) with something that requires a hex key or other key/tool. If you don’t want to do that, at least run cables from your wheels and seat through your U lock.
Using this system of locks, I haven’t had any of our 4 ebikes stolen in a town that has a huge incidence of bike theft - including some pretty complex bike theft rings (knock on wood?) Oh, and if the display on whatever bike you get is easy to release, find a way to lock that up or take it with you when you lock up. In big cities, anything that’s not chained down can and will walk away. It might sound like a pain in the ass to have to go through this lockup process, and it is, but it’s worth it when your bike and all its components are still there when you return. If you can take it into whatever building you work in - do that.
Very nice bike. I would've stolen it too. Jk.
I've had 2 bikes stolen from me in the past 4 years so I know how it feels. I finally made the decision to get a really good bike lock. It's very heavy but it gives me peace of mind.
