>Having a leveling system in a PvP game is such a basic feature
>
>Its such a simple system
Yes. So what does it add?
Is it nothing? Pretty sure it's nothing.

> yet so effective at making me feel progression as I sink hours into the game.
You made a number with even less meaning than usual for a video game one bigger. It's not progression.
Get one of these. Click it every time your scratch your ass. It added just as much as the Overwatch leveling system.
like i said they ordered a clicker (learned these are called tally counters) from amazon and it arrived as we were setting up for the 1st game after session 0 so the book keeping of it is dead simple that way. I will warn this creates a lot of chaos surges in practice(Our Sorcerer loves to use tides of Chaos) so we often have multiple rolls at once
I wonder! Imagine two player Pong. The only logic that exists bounces the ball and does score keeping. The basic feedback physics sim must be acceptable, given the ornithopters, and I'd shudder to think that something like a tally counter would be against the rules.
They're just called tally counter. You can find dozens of them on amazon. I don't think anyone swears by any brands, they all do the same thing!
When my place got really bad, I felt like no matter how much I worked on it I never made progress. It was depressing and it made me feel like doing nothing since nothing I did mattered.
Here was the solution that worked for me: I got a Tally Counter. Like this: https://www.amazon.com/KTRIO-Counter-Handheld-Clicker-Mechanical/dp/B075QFK6DG
If you haven't seen them before, it's a simple device, you click the button and the number goes up. They are cheap.
I would clip it to a belt loop and deal with 100 things every day. They don't have to be big things. Put a piece of paper in the trash? Click the counter. Put a pen back in a pen holder? Click the tally counter. Throw a sock in the laundry pile? Click the tally counter. Do one dish? Click the tally counter.
My depression would tell me I hadn't made any real progress, but the tally counter told me I had done 100 things, and the tally counter doesn't lie. No matter how bad the house still looked, I had dealt with 100 things that day, and 100 things is significant measurable progress. Usually 100 things took me an hour or less each day.
In 60 days I had dealt with 6000 things. 6000 things was a massive improvement. I could find things when I needed them. I could walk around without stepping on things. I could put things down without having to clear a pile.
The system won't work forever - once you clear thousands of little things and only the bigger projects are left, you can't do 100 a day - but I wasn't living in squalor anymore thanks to that cheap tally counter.
Totally late but I order them online for my asthmatic cat.
Warning: I cannot guarantee the legality of this practice.
Basically, Canada has online pharmacies and drugs are more affordable in Canada. You submit a picture of the Rx and they fill it, shipping either a Canadian generic (more expensive) or a generic from Turkey (cheapest). The Turkish inhalers are branded as Flixotide and they are the exact same medication even manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, but just a different brand name.
It is possible to send the prescription to multiple pharmacies and build a stockpile of 4-5 inhalers twice a year since shipping can be slow.
The only mild annoyance with the Flixotide inhalers is that they are not metered. I order a counter from Amazon (like this) and click it myself each time we use it. Even though the inhaler is supposes to have 120 doses, I toss it after 100 just to be safe.
The pharmacies I’ve used without issues are: NorthWest Pharmacy Canada Drugs Online ABC Pet Meds (cheapest)
The inhalers run anywhere from $25-75 at these pharmacies. Much better than $300 at CVS.
And although pet insurance won’t cover the asthma now, I would recommend still getting it for any future disease that might occur.
Feel free to PM me or post here if you have any questions.

Just bought one of these to click when an hour has passed. That way it stays between games and when it hits 24 I’ll reset. Congrats on the short hunt! If you're planning to hunt a whole shiny team, I'd definitely recommend a clicker counter (link is just the one I got, they're basically all the same). I used one for my Gen 7 hunts and the fact I can click it with one hand without looking meant I could watch shows, use my phone, etc without looking back and forth.
I just use a calculator as my counter, by pressing ans+1 and then = to count it up each encounter. Lots of people use phone apps (poketch is a popular one). There are also desktop and web tally counters. And if you feel really fancy with it, you can buy a physical literal counter. Personal preference really!
I found mine on Amazon by searching for "clicker counter", ended up getting this one for $7, managed to get it shipped even with the lockdown. Makes it easy to continue SR'ing without staring at the actual number.
I also tend to go into death anxiety phases, last one was months of obsessing and being afraid to sleep... it sucked.
It sounds crazy, but this is how I got out of it:
After about three weeks, I went from 30-40 times a day to pretty much nothing, and I stop doing it because I didn't need it anymore. What surprised me is that originally, everything was making me think about death, I couldn't watch TV shows or read or do anything interesting because it would make me spiral. But after I was able to "break the loop" that stuff didn't trigger it anymore.
Good luck! If you try it, I hope it works as well for you as it did for me. :)
It's a piece of paracord with beads on it. As you go you slide a bead down (for each piece of trash) there are different sections to mean different amounts.
Skip to 1:39 and don't worry about the pace/kilometer part. I'd probably make my own, one section to mean 1-10, and a second section that means every 10, 20, 30, 40, etc. It's hard to explain. You could also use one of those cheap people counting tickers from Amazon if you're not a diy-er

I don't go through all the bother of dealing with an app on my phone. A simple clicker/counter works just fine for me.
I try to avoid batteries, so I have one like this:

I like doing lace. For some patterns, it's essential.
The mind is malleable and can be changed. Scientists have shown the brain has neuroplasticity.
If you practice wholesome behavior your mind will change to be more uplifted. The basics are keeping the five precepts and practicing generosity. Loving-kindness meditation is great too. When you start, you may only feel relief for a few minutes or hours and then the depression comes back. But if you keep at it, the relief might last a few days before it comes back. And eventually it can go away entirely.
Look for any joy or happiness you can find. Even in depression there can be moments of uplift. You could try getting a counter, and keep track of every time your mood lifts. By doing this, you're training your mind to pay attention to good things.
I find that helping others makes me feel nice. If you've done good deeds, you can reflect on those. You don't have to give money to help others. Just smiling or making someone laugh is an act of kindness.
I was depressed for 12 years and I'm not anymore. I did got rid of depression through cognitive behavioral therapy, but Buddhism would probably have been more helpful. But there's no reason you can't do both.
If you wanted to try loving-kindness meditation, this is what I recommend.
I’m using one of these pretty useful tbh
Do you mean a tally counter?
Add a spring to push the lever on a mechanical counter. Use a spring or flexible arm to push the button so that it doesn't act as a stop (maybe you want it do that? Then an even or odd number would correspond to AM or PM.
You can use a ball detent to make a wheel that is stable in any number of positions. Depending on how far your lid opens you may want 4 positions instead of two. If you have ramps between the detent positions you can make it 'snap' between them. An indexing knob rotary switch could be an easy way to get a detent mechanism.
Things get more involved on the ratcheting mechanism. Does the lid open the same amount every time? what is the minimum distance you want it to trigger at and what is the maximum distance the lid can open? There are ways to make a ratchet only index a set amount despite how much the actuation moves. I suspect you will end up with a 4 or 6 position indicator wheel to keep the rotation distance reasonable.
I was wondering what it was too and I think I just found the exact same one on amazon
