Agreed. A keyboard is not the same as having the monitor attached at that low of a height.
Could a "Lap Desk," possibly help?
I have one like this that I use, but there are also ones like this with legs...Something to consider.
I think you are so wonderful to even think of something like this as a gift. Your caring shows.
I use Moonlight game streaming to stream games from the desktop in the office next room over, over wifi, to the tablet. Works really well.
Here's the rest of that setup, in case anyone wants to replicate something similar:
Lapdesk (LOVE THIS THING): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001I0F5T2
Tablet case (best case I have ever had): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Y2P52HV
Bluetooth Keyboard (folds up so tiny!): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LS32D52
Bluetooth Mouse: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K05KROE
Bluetooth headphones: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V288F7P
Wonderful little clip on light that puts out a super soothing amber light: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q87WJ7M Added benefit its that it does not wake up my husband next to me - it actually helps him go to sleep!
I use this extra long cable to keep the tablet charged: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Y83B74K
And I use some straps, these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011WGG7Y8
To keep the mouse pad in place and it keeps the mouse and keyboard from dropping off the lapdesk when it is in my lap and tilted a bit. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011WGG7Y8
There was one little hurdle that came up (not being able to use the escape key in game as it was intercepted by the Android system) so I used this solution to get around that: https://old.reddit.com/r/AndroidGaming/comments/ia0esk/simple_solution_to_remap_keys_capslock_to_escape/
Oh! And Moonlight Streaming is FREE and open source! You do need an Nvidia GPU though in your desktop because it hooks into Nvidia's GeForce Experience.
But for those of you with Radeon cards, you can just use Steam Link, Steam's streaming service.
I tell you guys, there is something so incredibly COZY about gaming in bed with your kitties nearby or sleeping between your legs and your husband cuddled up next you and everything is all safe and quiet and you are playing your game. It is bliss. Utter BLISS. *sigh*
I make Let's Plays on Youtube so modding Skyrim is part of my "work".
I was using a HP Stream 7 tablet and the splashtop app to remote into my desktop while watching a Skyrim LP on my phone. The splashtop app is incredible I can even play games from my desktop on my tablet with pretty much no lag.
The lap desk is here: http://www.amazon.com/LapGear-Schoolhouse-LapDesk-storage-45075/dp/B001I0F5T2
The really big mousepad I used to cover and protect the top is here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AJN9O1Y
I used a logitech keyboard and mouse with a unifying dongle thingy so I could plug into the tablet with a USB OTG cord. (If you understood that sentence then you get a cookie.)
The kitties are Luke (shorthair) and Lila (kneading the blanket next to me).
As I took these pictures it was raining outside and I had been watching the rain and the ocean from our bedroom window.
I am gearing up for another Skyrim roleplay series and wanted to really mod my game right, using the profiles in Mod Organizer, etc. But there's a chill in the air - so why leave the bed?
I am using my HP Stream 7 tablet and Splashtop to remote into my desktop that is in the office next door. Splashtop is amazing, I can even play Skyrim with it - almost no lag unless I am doing something else with my internet like uploading to Youtube.
Lapdesk is awesome, from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001I0F5T2
And I use this awesome BIG mousepad to cover the top: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AJN9O1Y
My tablet and wireless mouse sit inside snugly.
So I've been modding away, sipping tea that is kept warm on the cup warmer and looking at the rain hit the ocean.
P.S. Cats are Luke (shorthair) and Lila (kneading the blanket next to me)
Edit: Oh yeah, and I am watching a let's play of Skyrim too, on my phone.
