The laptop lap desk my wife and I each use is the LapGear 91585 (ASIN B07N9JMSW6, $33), which has a cushioned underside, fits up to 15.6" laptops, has a 5"x9" mouse pad, and has a slot to hold a smartphone. It's very comfortable and only 2.94 pounds, and at Amazon it's customer rating is an incredible 4.8 of 5 stars with 1,979 reviews. It ended our overheating problems. Its only negative is that my mouse tends to roll off it if it's not level, but I could fix that with self-sticking 1/2" felt strips (ASIN B07ZX3LB97, $7) if I wanted to.
