Really nice setup.
Check out these for the stand if you’re always gonna have it on a flat surface. Can’t go wrong for the price and they’re well made. I guarantee they’ll get the air flowing better than a stand with less air flow that costs like 3 times the price.
If you want something more solid, but still portable, look for the aluminum x-stand on amazon. It’s like $25.
I would say it's up to the users opinion. Some people swear by them and claim large temp drops when using them.
Personally, I feel it just makes more noise and sucks in more dust. It is possible it does effect the laptops fans over time as well.
With my 2021 7i, intel i7, 3070, simply elevating the back a bit allowing good airflow is plenty to keep the temp in check. I've yet to see any throttling or notice it being too hot.
I use these. Small, easy to transport, rubber on top and bottom to prevent slipping. I recommend them.
I just got these feet for my legion 5 pro. I probably will also use them with my nitro 5 at some point, but they raise the laptop a little bit to get better airflow to the fans on the bottom.
Ah, you're not in the US. We can only get the 3050ti as of now. Good on ya! I have the 3070 in my Maingear vector Pro with the 11th gen i7, and it is incredible. Yeah, the power brick is sizeable for sure, though I've had worse. Not sure if you are a cooling pad person, I'm not, but I use these laptop feet for both of my machines and they are awesome for airflow, very stable, portable, etc.
I use these laptop feet to raise the back. Work great. Never been happy with a cooling pad, doesn't do much, you mainly need to raise the vents so more air gets in. IMHO
I have 2 of those units and thankfully haven't had any issues like what you described. I did run all windows and driver updates first thing including Nvidia from their site, then created a disk image in case I need to wipe it at some point. I do have Steam installed and no issues, as well as Xbox app. May want to reinstall windows and then the drivers, though that is super annoying right out of the gate. Also, the Node Control Center app they come with is outdated, so definitely update that from their website. It has a ton more options for overclocking, undervolting, TDP, etc. I absolutely love these machines. They're much less expensive than Razer as you said and the airflow I find much better. Does help to elevate the back a bit, I use these from amazon, super convenient and definitely keeps the temps down Laptop Feet
To add on to the "elevate the back" or cooling pad advice, I use these for my laptops. Never been a cooling pad guy. These work great, no slip, cheap, nice angle for typing, portable, highly recommend for some increased air flow.
No, it will not overheat. Just use something to elevate the back to allow better air flow. I use these. Mine is plugged in and on all the time and it stays cool. Also, use conservation mode in vantage to limit battery degradation.
>Yes, I am in the UK. That's why I couldn't buy the Legion stand, which is not good. I have bought these cooling pads and hope this will help to a degree.

>What do you think of it or if you have tried it?
Yes, I am in the UK. That's why I couldn't buy the Legion stand, which is not good. I have bought these cooling pads and hope this will help to a degree.
What do you think of it or if you have tried it?
I would avoid a cooling pad. Just elevate the back and the cooling will be just fine. Cooling pads add more dust as well.
Depending on your situation, I would recommend either the official legion stand, when it's available, or these. I use the latter and they work great. Small, easy to transport, and non slip on both sides.
DO NOT repaste a 2021 legion laptop. Unless they actually made a factory mistake, in which case they should fix it under warranty, the majority of people who have repasted have gotten the same or poorer temps. What lenovo uses is very good.
Also, i personally don't recommend a cooling pad or fan. All these laptops need is elevation of the rear. Cooling pads and fans tend to push more dust into your laptop causing it to need cleaning a lot sooner. I use these.
5 pro is 140W tgp. Slim 7 is 100W tgp. That will be a big difference in AAA titles. And, it will not cool anywhere near as well as the 5 pro. 5 Pro screen is much better as well.
As for lapability, as long as you use the lap desk, you will be fine. The pro is heavier, but not in any way uncomfortable. I have the 7i, non slim, which is even heavier and it's not a problem on my lap desk.
I do recommend getting something to prop the back up to give it adequate air intake. i use and recommend these.
I will always recommend these. Small, non slip on both sides. works great
But, if you really want an actual stand, wait for the legion stand to come back in stock.
Skip the pad, just elevate the back. All those cooling pads do is push more dust in there.
I recommend these
Compact, rubber on both side prevent slippage, and stick together with magnets for easy transport.
I have the regular legion 5 w similar specs and play games on a 2560x1080 monitor and watch streams on the laptop screen w no heat issues. All I am using for the stand is these small little half spheres that keep the back of the laptop off the desk: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NKWY8SX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Elevating makes a huge difference, but you don't need to be that high off the surface.
This is what you want. Laptop Pucks
I use these with a lap desk on the couch.
I think this one may block the intakes in the bottom. The sides of the stand look like they would go right over the fans. If you really want one like that, get the official legion stand. Since it's not in stock right now, use this until you can get it.
Get these while you wait for the legion stand to be back in stock if you really want it. Don't do a cooling pad. They don't do much more than elevating the back, and they pull in more dust.
McAfee, and for some, ICue are the major pieces of bloatware. If you are plugged in most of the time, and like the rgb, then ICue should stay. I'm in the same boat and I kept it. Just an FYI, it's the Corsair services, not the app, that drain battery, and you can use the app just fine with all 4 Corsair services disabled.
The other main things you should do is turn on conservation mode for your battery longevity, turn off the mux switch for best performance, and finally, elevate the back. No need for a cooling pad, just something simple. I use this. Otherwise the legion stand is very popular.
Whenever you plan on using it on battery, it's best to disable ICue, enable the MUX, reduce screen to 60Hz, and disable conservation mode for best battery life.
No need for a cooling pad, they really don't add much. Just elevate the back, I use this
Turbo will make temps go up, but I have the same internals in a 7i and I get no where near those temps on ultra. If you still get high temps after elevation, then it may be time to contact lenovo and see what they can do.
All you really need to do is elevate the back of the laptop. Cooling pads are unnecessary. Get a stand, or something like this It's what I use and my temps never get high
You really only need to elevate the back of the computer to get effective cooling. The cooling pad is just blowing in the same air that the intake fans would have sucked in. I'm using these with great results.
I have a Dell G5 with the same processor and a 1660ti. My temps are usually in the mid 80s for both CPU and GPU (i use these to raise the back of the laptop). The i7 doesn't thermal throttle until 102C...running aida64 stress test.
Laptops will always have higher temps, but they're also designed for it. The temps you're seeing are pretty normal for the parts involved.
My G5 (intel/nvidia model) get's hot, too. Just lift up the back end a bit to allow more airflow. I use these cooling pads and it drops the temps by a fair bit.
Gaming laptops always run hot, and the fans are always loud...part of the trade off for portability.
Thank you. Also available at Amazon in US https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NKWY8SX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_N1BW3JAWQWQRSDBTBRT3
Laptop Cooling Pad, Hagibis... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NKWY8SX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Get those. I dropped 5-8c with those and dropped nothing with a cooling pad.
I use this magnetic one which is also quite nice https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NKWY8SX
But those look awesome on the Legion. Where did you get 'em?
Just prop the back up for airflow.
I use these.
Youc ould get away with those little 'feet' they make to raise the back of the laptop an inch or so.

I might also suggest some nice headphones. Wireless gaming prefers USB dongle vs bluetooth for latency, but in the interest of being able to use them with phone for music and calls a well, bluetooth would be ok. But both would be better.
I use these.
Small, easy to transport, rubber on both sides to prevent any sliding.
Cooling pads are totally unnecessary. All they add is more noise and more dust. Just get these. Small, rubber on both sides to prevent sliding, and very easy to travel with.
Elevation is all you need. If you want an actual stand, get the legion metal stand. Out of stock on the US site, but you can get one here. Otherwise just wait for it on the US site.
Excellent summary.
Since I have the older model with a big butt cooler (13R3) I don't have this vent. I need to ask if it is even possible to run the laptop with a closed lid hooked up to an external monitor anymore?
Before covid I would travel quite a bit and has the little rubber bumpers which are extremely portable. They work in most solid surface situations.

There are usually many sellers and often a few variants.
Get a laptop stand. Supposedly they help cooling almost as well as a powered cooler but with none of the added noise.
I got the lenovo legion stand for home https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/accessories-and-software/legion-merchandise/legion-merchandise_accessories/4zy0z72164
Then these Hagibis things for when I'm out: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NKWY8SX
Just get these
Compact, raises it to a nice angle, has rubber on both sides to prevent slippage, and stick together for easy transport.
That one can block the intakes on the bottom. The legion stand is more open on the bottom.
I use these Stand pucks
Cool way to do it without the fear: Laptop Cooling Pad, Hagibis Ergonomic Laptop Stand Small Invisible Cooler Ball Portable Magnetic Foot Heat for MacBook Pro Computer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NKWY8SX/
I know this one is not available right now, but I recommend the legion over the one you posted
the reason is the air intakes are partially blocked by the one you posted. For a gaming laptop, you need all the intake you can get.
In the meantime, I recommend something like this

Nice. I like the DIY/Maker aspect to this - see a need, create a solution.
I opted for these $9 cooler balls that accomplish the same thing without covering any vents:
Hagibis Laptop Stand Cooler Balls
I work and game with my laptop on my actual lap quite often so also use a laptop pad for heat blocking and for better airflow to the vents as well as providing a stable platform for my mouse:
AboveTEK Portable Laptop Lap Desk w/ Retractable Mouse Pad Tray
I dabble a bit in wood as well and I'd love to create a riser to go with the lap desk, something custom like what you've made. I'd probably go with a light weight wood (balsa maybe?) then route or carve out vent channels and add some cool, native inspired carved deco all over it. I can imagine staining it a matt black then coat it in some heat resistant polyurethane and add some thin, non-slip rubber pads underneath and in the corners. Hmmm... thanks for the inspiration!
If you want portable, this is what I got. Works great and is super portable.
