Got that on amazon, then taped it from the bottom corner where the door hinge is, around the top, and across the other side. Left a 1-inch margin between the strip and the glass edge, so its behind the metal bar piece of the detolf (so it doesnt cast a shadow), and plugged it in. It took me all of 10 minutes to measure out and set up, easy as pie.
LED tape is a great, inexpensive way to light enclosures. I use them in most of my tanks. You can even get them in the spectrum for plant growth if you have bioactive enclosures (most of mine are). They usually come with dimmers too to adjust the brightness.
UVB is pricy. If you can afford it go for it, lots of studies suggest there are some benefits to it. but if you've got limited funds I think investing in better, more enriching enclosure is better for your snake, IMO.
UVB is non-negotiable for some reptiles, but for corn snakes I look at it like kale. Kale is unquestionably good for you and you will get health benefits from eating it regularly, but you can also easily live a long, healthy life without ever touching it.
Will it work on my LED lights? I've been thinking of a way to just use one plug and 1 controller for my strip lights.
I managed to find a light that should work, it has a manual switch that I can leave in the on position so all I would need to do is flip the light switch to turn on the lights. I would’ve been fine with RGB, but white was what I was looking for specifically. I’ll edit my post with how it turns out once it comes in tomorrow. Here’s the link to the one I bought

These are the exact LED strips. They have been up for about 2 years now.
And the tv is up a little high- BUT- it wouldn’t make that nice straight line with the top of the shelves!!! And actually the room is insanely mis proportioned- like longer then it’s wide, but not by enough to make it two areas, so it works. Not great for my gaming… but it works.
I will try to add photos later- but - here are the exact led’s

They have been up for about 2 years now. We used light weight wire to marry all the strips (which are adhered to the inside of the door, so around the glass basically facing in towards the shelves) and ran the wires on the under side of each of the Billy faces (that lil on the bottom?) and then all plugs (I also keep my video games on there) are behind the electric fire place which is only like 6 inches deep. So you have some good space back there, and the fire place actually vents out the front so no additional heat is in the Billy. - hope this helped.
Thanks!! Here are the lights I’m using. No problems so far!

Hi! these are the strips I use. They're the correct wavelength for plant growth and have worked really well for me:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00MHLIFO8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
CHE would give them enough heat, but they really like the overhead light. I would stick with the visible basking light. Good luck!
Is there any reason to want to find the exact same strip? You could likely replace it with another one from Amazon. The important thing for choosing a white LED strip is to find out what kind of white light you want. For example, 6000k is more pure white just before you start getting a tinge of blue light. 4000k is getting more yellowish like early morning sun. Most LED strips run on 12V nowadays

Just plan old LEDs: Lepro LED Strip Light White,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MHLIFO8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I will eventually be hooking up the entire thing to a smart socket so that everything will be turned on together (I try to always monitor my prints).
lights it’s just one wire that I have at the bottom left of the detolf that connects to the strip. The strip has sections were you can cut the strip when it reaches to the other side of the detolf. It’s very convenient and give it a clean look
I bought an led strip on Amazon. A switch instead of dimmer would be better. I did a loop on the inside of the door frame all the way around. Not sure if you have bare metal to adhere it to or no.

amazon! they can get super bright, but I almost always have it on the lowest setting since I find that to be bright enough for me but it seems like they're no longer including the remote with it. this is the product
Hmm if you just need more light to make the room brighter so things look better when using the webcam you could give these a try:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00MHLIFO8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have them in my living room since it was never wired for ceiling lighting and just one strip lights everthing up really nice, even moreso than I expected so that I usaully have them down at 50% about in the evening. Not sure how good it would be for during the daytime though. I bought two thinking one wouldn't be enough but only used the one strip cause it plenty bright with just the one.
The printer automatically cuts off(via the TPLink plugin) after a print is complete and everything cools down. So yes. The light is on anytime the printer is on. The amount of power the LED is using is very small.

I've got bioactive enclosures for most of my reptiles. It's definitely the way to go if you are able. There are a ton of resources out there to guide you. After almost 20 builds and learning after each one, here are a couple things I wish I knew the first time:
Use nylon window screen instead of garden ground cloth to seperate the drainage layer from the substrate. It's more expensive, but it's a lot easier to work with and stays put a lot better (especially if you have a snake that likes to burrow)
Drainage layer should always have a bit of water in it. Before you put on your substrate pile some gravel in the corner so you can easily add water directly to the drainage layer (I forget this one a lot!)
LED light strips are a great way to give your plants light, they take up no room and don't put out heat. just make sure they are at least 5000k. I use these and can do multiple enclosures with one roll (got to buy adapters seperately): https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00MHLIFO8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Pothos are awesome plants for a viv. They grow like crazy so you will have an ever changing environment for your snake's enrichment. And you can use the cuttings in other enclosures (I've got 9 tanks with pothos that originated from one from one of my garter snake tanks).
Gather as many new fallen leaves in the fall. Boil them or bake them to sterilize. Then add them to your enclosure throughout the year. They look great, are good food for your clean up crew and add nutrients back into the soil. Gather as much as you think you'll need, then triple it.
Add more isopods and springtails than you think you need.
Don't buy wood/decor from pet stores. $10-$20 for a branch is nuts. Just keep an eye out in nature for cool bits of bark, branches, rocks, etc. You can bake them to sterilize if you want, but usually just scrubbing them down with hot water will do.
Spray foam and silicone (covered in substrate) make great naturalistic backgrounds.
I've got a couple of bioactive corn snake builds on my channel if that helps. There are tons of other great resources out there too. Good luck!
They're just LED strip lights! All I did was stick it onto my mirror, cut off the excess, plug some stuff in, and done! I bought this kit from amazon. It used to come with a remote, but it doesn't anymore apparently. :/ you can buy it separately though. this is the remote it previously came with
They were these ones which I bought from amazon. There was another redditor on this sub which shared it with me :). I think the item was originally on amazon US, but I found the same sku.

I spent a lot of time thinking about lighting for mine. I ended up using the standard LED tape light (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MHLIFO8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share). I love the adjustable brightness on these and the cool white color matches the aesthetic of the build.
Originally I was going to use these connectors to split the lights and move half of them to the third tier of the lack enclosure for the filament storage but I decided there's no need to illuminate the filament so I just put the whole roll of lights on the ceiling and used those connectors to achieve good, tight, right angles bends. They were a collosal pain in the ass but the end result looks good. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XDVNDZQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)
leds
there are many other variants too ( including RGB with remote )
If you get those led all in one packs from amazon it doesn't matter much. The aluminum channels are to make sure the leds do not get hot and thus burn out overly quickly as heat WILL cause them to fail etc. However those 5v/12v leds strip from amazon like govee etc don't really get hot and should be just fine stuck straight to the wall or ceiling.
For example U got these for my livingroom:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00MHLIFO8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and had them on the wall along the cieling for over a year and they still work fine. I decided when repainting to get aluminum channels but just for the look mostly and added a second strip along along the opposite side. When both lights are on a I can see the new one are brighter and whiter than the old one which are not quite as bright/white as they used to be but I didn't notice the difference till I had the new strip up. Maybe being in channels would have helped this but I think maybe not, they are 12v strips.

12v strip or higher voltage ones are better for longer strip run with adding more Power supplies to the set up and will stop the colors from getting weaker or dimmer further along the strip due to voltage drop.

If you don't mind seeing each little led then dont get channels if you want to hide the "dots" then get channels but it will cost and for there not to be "shadows" between each led on the strip when in the channels you need atleast a strip with 120 per meter of leds. This one above are only 60 leds per meter. The deeper the channels is as in the further away the channel over is from the leds the less likely you are to get these shadows and get a "neon" like effect. From what I what researched with most channels on the sale at amazon and the like you want a strict minimum of 120 led per meter I can't stess this enough.
I use this lighting strip in mine. I stuck it on the inside of the doors.

Agreed. I mounted 12V white LED strips on the "ceiling" of my printer enclosure and it looks awesome: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MHLIFO8

Thank you!
It was that ikea cabinet every gets.

And then I strung these led light strips up the side. I got the idea from a YouTube video I found

I had the same concern, so instead got led strips with the power adapter and dimmer included:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MHLIFO8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Plugs right into the SB's power strip.
Thank you!! :) those LEDs were not even close to their max brightness, which really makes the colors pop out (but were not good for my phone camera!)
I used these LED lights, which also comes with the power supply. All-in-one, super easy to setup, no wire fuss. https://www.amazon.com/Flexible-Kitchen-Christmas-Included-Daylight-dp-B00MHLIFO8/dp/B00MHLIFO8/ref=dp_ob_title_hi?fbclid=IwAR2VSt1SkssxkmNqceXBfK2Ok5uFkFQHJoJC3Vb9upnfDahSZQeVlh47avM
Awesome! I recommend researching the different methods and thinking about which will best suit you. Most setups require wire management of some sort and I refused to deal with that. I was about to just put a puck light at the top of my DETOLF until I discovered this arrangement.
Here's the product I used: https://www.amazon.com/Flexible-Kitchen-Christmas-Included-Daylight-dp-B00MHLIFO8/dp/B00MHLIFO8/ref=dp_ob_title_hi?fbclid=IwAR2VSt1SkssxkmNqceXBfK2Ok5uFkFQHJoJC3Vb9upnfDahSZQeVlh47avM
This comes with both the LED and power supply, but I do not believe it can be controlled w/ Alexa.
Advice:
- Take all figures and glass shelves out first
- Check your LEDs before installation to make sure they work
- Be careful when removing the adhesive to not accidentally remove the glue too (I did this for the beginning OOPS!)
- Wire your connection cable through the bottom corner of your cabinet. Rope your LED scroll through the shelf gaps of one side first, then remove just some adhesive at a time and apply them parallel to the metal pole, adjacent to the pole like this (not my image but same idea): https://imgur.com/a/FOdNy
Be patient and don't let your LED get tangled! Might be helpful to have someone work with you in doing this if needed to ensure alignment. Hope this is useful for you!

I don’t actually remember where I got them, I’ve had them for a few years. Here are some similar ones, they don’t include warmth I don’t think. They come with a dimmer switch. :Link
Thanks for the reply. Its an LED strip I bought on Amazon and it comes with a 12v adapter that plugs into the wall. Here is a link to the LEDS --> LE LED Strip Light . I'm hooking it up to a simple timer and am just looking for the easiest way to get it to slowly fade in / fade out when it turns on and off. Thanks again for the response!
